So, what... once the caucuses are over, that's all the signatures they're ever going to get? Warren's too cowardly to approach a stranger in public or knock on a door. Brianna's too lazy and Frank's too busy with his own job.

This campaign is hilarious. I don't know how it could be worse run.

There are firms that specialize in signature gathering, a real campaign or ballot initiative would have already hired them to go out and do it for them. They tend to be expensive and the Wu campaign clearly has other spending priorities in mind.

This campaign is the perfect example of why signatures are needed to run. If you can't get organized enough and find enough support or have enough friends to get the required signatures, don't waste everyone's time on the ballot.

It's nice to see democratic institutions actually working. It seems almost certain now that John will not be able to waste any limited media of public discourse with his babbling idiocy. He won't make it onto the ballot and only the real candidates will be given any of the spotlight.

John isn't even a joke candidate of the Vermin Supreme sort, who comment ironically on the system itself.

By home district do you think he means Southie where Stephen lives, or District 8? For state elections the signatures have to be from the towns and district you're running in. I don't know if it's the same for federal office but probably because it's the same signature certification process. We can only hope that he's so inept that he's gathering signatures from all over the state and hoping that they'll count.

He got 5 signatures at the Southie caucus.

It's probably not even going to matter though, because at the rate he's going he's not going to get the required numbers anyway. It will be funny though if they perform a miracle and get the 2k but they're thrown out because they are invalid.

Anyone up for predictions? It’s obvious the three muskateers won’t get this shit done. Frank seems competent but busy. The other two are incompetent and lazy. It’s doubtful they’ll even utilize a single volunteer.

When Brianna fails to get on the ballot, will Brianna blame GamerGate? Will she blame Warren? Will she ignore that she didn’t make it onto the ballot and ride this overpriced exercise bike until the election?

My theory is that she isn't even going to acknowledge the fact that she failed. She's already laying the groundwork for this policy now. She hardly ever talks about her campaign any longer, leaving it all to Frank. Maybe the donation website will quietly disappear from her twitter bio, or maybe she'll just keep it around like patreon as long as some people are providing money. Whatever the case, come May when they fail to get all the required signatures, she'll simply stop mentioning her political ambitions and start sperging about cars or whatever her latest obsession is.

Stephen Lynch. She'll claim intimidation tactics were used on her volunteers in an attempt to stonewall the signatures. She'll know it's a lie, it'll probably backfire quickly and she'll shut up about it for awhile. Once she thinks enough time has passed she'll start to preface her political opinions with "As someone who ran for congress"

I'm not going to watch it again, but I think the interview she did with BNN she mentioned not getting support from the party and said they wanted everything to stay as it is.

Warren is definitely getting some of the blame, because the responsibility for getting the signatures has been put firmly on him. He's also going to be an easy target because he's such a pussy.

I actually think though that blame will be limited publicly. Giant Spacekat was a huge financial loss and a joke to anyone who looks at the company with a critical eye. But she's still introduced as the GSK founder as though she built a proper company. Even not getting enough signatures she will still claim this as a successful political campaign where she learned so much that will help her in her future career.

I think the question isn't _if_ Cousin Lynch is being set up as the scapegoat, but the exact method of shoving him under the bus, and most importantly how he handles it.

Has anyone discussed the possibility that it was Lynch who produced those shitty campaign videos that Wu posted before? Lynch supposedly has involvement in a company that does film production.

They're extra-fucked since this means they really need upwards of 4000 signatures. A minimum of 1/3 of signatures gathered will end up being discarded (people not registered to vote, registered in another district, not registered with the right party, etc.) so campaigns usually try to gather 2X what is required. This is going to end with Wu failing to qualify for the ballot and shrieking about how GamerGate and Trump sabotaged her.

edit: lol, Massachusetts has all kinds of super-technical requirements for signature gathering and certification that they won't possibly be able to comply with. They're going to get BTFO.
Each nomination paper should contain signatures of registered voters from only ONE city or town. At least three registrars or election commissioners of the city or town where the signers are registered must certify that each signature is that of a registered voter in their jurisdiction. Names from other communities on that sheet will be disallowed. If a candidate is running in a district which crosses city or town lines, separate nomination papers should be circulated and submitted to each community.

Candidates should collect more signatures than required, as many signatures are likely to be disallowed in the certification process. Further signatures may be disallowed through challenges. Each local election official is required by law to certify two-fifths more than the number of signatures required.
