I always wonder since these marine releases along with the Death Watch Marines were basically actual "Truescale" marines before primaris. While I love the models I still see a lot of people dont accept primaris due to lore reasons. The lore is not amazing (but fuck you I wanted stealth marines and I like Phobos) I find it odd how some people admit they would like primaris more if the lore reasons was just "oh they got new equipment"
It's a lesser version of the end times. Everyone one thought normal marines were going to be immediately squated, and the lore surrounding their actual creation is pretty bad. Not to mention that normal primaris, while having better proportions, looks really bland compared to the HUGE existing range of marine models, and the way they make a lot of primaris kits makes them mildly annoying to hobby them up with existing marine bits.
If you see someone post a normal mark 7 tac marine and a intercessor and say "soul vs soulless", they are probably mentally deficient. But when you start looking at armies, marine armies get a lot more samey. Chapters like dark and blood angels have outs, because they have those dank exclusive units. But chapters like the white scars, at this point you're probably playing white Ultramarines.

I’d love it if GW brought back the ability to buy individual bitz. It’s impractical because they would be wasting money on bitz that didn’t sell, but damn would that make my conversion attempts shine.

I suspect that a lot of the dumb lore from 8th edition about primaris are leftovers of what they were going to do to 40k if AoS was better received. They should’ve just said they’re making the models bigger and left it at that.

It's a real shame, because primaris models instantly become a lot better with just a few bits here and there.

There's loads of bitz sellers on eBay for example though. Or websites like bitsandkits.co.uk

Granted, the more popular bits tend to get sold out quickly or get priced high but if you're not in a rush it's usually possible to get what you want eventually.

There's also places like shapeways where you can get 3d printed bits for most anything you need for marines at least.

Like I said earlier they seem to really just be forgetting a lot of the lore they made for primaris and they are legit just turning into "marines but taller" which I guess retconning bad lore is good but at the same time whats the point of all this Indomintus. While Love is a Blood Angelfag I absolutely love the fact chapters like the Raven Guard and their successors get more recon options that are not scouts. Its why I am currently just pushing through my current Raptor Project mostly since its something I always wanted.

However, I have been slowly preferring AoS due to the models but even the lore is intriguing me more too recently we have been getting a lack of side stories in 40k recently and mostly have been focused on the "main" plotline so to speak. AoS they still do the main plotline stuff but they also know its still a setting so they give you tons of world building and lore excerpts. The one thing that really disappoints me on the new codexes for 40k is just how light they are on lore compared to current AoS Battletomes and older 40k codexes.

Age of sigmar? More like AGE OF NO LORE!

:^)))))

Nothing terribly interesting revealed yet. Everything in 9th feels same-y.

I'm considering stripping what Word Bearers I have painted and running them as The Purge, because despite being vanilla CSM, their play style has so much more character than the DG. I still wanna represent Nurgle, but damn, Plague Marines aren't shambling weirdos who can lose an arm and still function anymore, they're just Marines who have a curious innate resistance to Heavy Bolters and Autocannons, specifically. The Purge, however, feel like gloomy vultures, picking on the wounded and dying, shooting into melee because, really, we're all just meat. I'll miss the FBD, but not the PBC.

I’m sorry if this is late but I noticed that the space marine heroes are the same sculpts as the space marine adventures. So, if you want either the terminators or the normal marine sculpts don’t pay scalpers. Just wanted to give you all the heads up just in case you didn’t know. They don’t include everything obviously but it has a lot of them. *Edit* The heavy flamer for example was a part of the Japanese set but not the American and a few of the sculpts weren’t included. Hope this helps since the first series in particular is a lot more expensive now and series 2 is getting up there in price too.

Yeah, I mentioned SMA a few months back. Buying SMA for 5 Marines is a bit much (but not THAT much really) but they are all very nice looking character posed models and I think they'd make good additions to a killteam or what have you. the SMA guys have a helmeted and non-helmeted head as an option as well. So if you don't want to use the head that looks like a Space Wolf, you can toss in a helmeted version and paint them as whatever. There are no molded on chapter markings on any of the SMA ones I have, so they're gonna work just fine for Blood Ravens when I get around to painting them.

Yeah and it really makes sense for marines in general, not just RG, to have stealthy options since they’re supposed to be special forces.

I have a soft spot for scouts. One of my favorite moments was when I beat a GK power gamer with Blood Angel scouts. He was so salty that my cheap as chips unit made several times back their points lol.

Yeah that was my issue is that they were missing that aesthetic that others had. It’s not that hard to fix. It’s also why I’m convinced the original plan was to do an End Times and then a reboot a la Sigmar. I think they were going to redo everything because there were rumors akin to that. Then they saw how poorly AoS was initially received.

Started working on the SMH plague marines as a break. They look fucking good.
They do, I need to get them too....
