Elite and Command are the same models, right? Just some terrain?

You don't even get a real rulebook in any of them, just Recruit/Elite/Command versions of the rulebook?

Each version has more rules, starting with a pamphlet, then a little booklet, to a mini-rule book that looks like the real thing in promotional pictures.

And yes, Recruit is Warden 10 Necron Warriors, 3 Scarbs, one volkite Lt, 5 Assault Intercessors. Elite upgrades Warden to Overlord, Lt to Captain, and adds 3 Skorpehk Destroyers, a Canoptek Plasmacyte, 3 Outriders. Command adds terrain.

Yup. All marines are now 2W. (Except scouts.)

This includes Chaos. And all point costs are going up accordingly (~20%).

That's interesting. I was thinking recently that Astartes mechanically probably should of been 2 wound, and Primaris were just milking the players to pay for it. Looks like the 8th Edition was the extent of that scam.

Multiwound marines are cool but this is just the start of wound creep, the other side of the power creep coin. It makes sense for the point increase and focus on smaller scale battles but you know the wound increase wont be fair across the board.

It makes antiinfantery weapons pretty useless...

if they keep primaris at the same amount of wounds but just give them better guns Ill be happy. 3 wound intercessors would be a bit asinine. Like what? are you gonna give Custodes more wounds too?

Definitely gives the Tac Squads a lot more use unless they take away some of their weapon options.

So people are getting their loot crates, can't help but wonder if the supposed value of these things area bit inflated just because of the single model shit. Keep in mind this is the EU/UK Imperial Supply Drop crate, they all contain the same models. Seem like old stock that wasn't selling well perhaps? Though supposedly some in the UK are getting crates with Baneblades, 2 Cadians and a Commissar.

No picture but Aussies got:
1 Knight castellan
1 kayvaan shrike
1 kor'sarro khan
1 box of scouts with sniper rifles
1 box of scouts with bolters

Aussies definitely got the best box but given what they have to pay for models down there, it evens out. Pretty cool they got a Knight.

I get it would be embarrassing to have a box full of generic space marines(though it would be better.) This isnt the army starter as described. If you wanted to do space marine themed box, do BA or DA since they have a lot of unique units to put in the box. or just make it all guard. or 1 box each of every main custodes unit would have been amazing and easy to do.

a bunch of characters from different chapters is literally worthless.

At this point I'm just gonna bite the bullet & start a space marine army for 2 main reasons: the constant rules updates & the amount of shit you find for them on eBay etc.

Probably gonna do Iron Hands because they're the first chapter I ever read about. It was in issue 262 of White Dwarf, from 2001. They had a series called Index Astartes that gave you can overview of the SM chapters, and this one was about the Iron Hands. That issue of White Dwarf was also the one that introduced the Tau as a faction in 40k, so that explains my affection for them.

If the marine crybabbies are getting new powerful weaponry, multi wounds and lesser points penalties, then restore Eldar craftworld stratagems like the Alaitoc craftworld/wings of Khaine combo for extra evasiveness.

Most of my craftworld games are 1) set those avengers on objectives asap 2) buff/charge wraithlords 3) set wraithblade detachments with accompanying seer and pray to Isha I roll first. This is the faction which is supposed to be fragile yet agile, and multi-focused, meaning they're not powerhouse killer machines but intensely specialized in their roles. For fuck's sake.

Have you ever thought of switching to a different xeno since it seems like eldar are just forgotten?

I was about to sperg out about the Necron weapons getting buffed because the guy I play against all the time has been collecting Necrons since their release in White Dwarf all those years ago...then I realized I am building a infantry heavy Guard army...my guys are going to die to everything anyways.

Pity the Guardsman.

Crazy, I think I have that issue in a box somewhere.... Assuming my old roommate didn't make off with it.
That's pretty cool, I lost all of mine during a move & I was gutted. I miss the old battle reports that they did, with the little strategic maps of the board with the units on. They also used to include short stories at the end based on how the battles went.

Man, it feels like the hobby used to have so much more soul. I feel like an old boomer missing the good old days.

Never, I fell in love with their aesthetic. The 2nd and 3rd edition eldar codexes have this uniquely classic, weirdo art that blends both Giger and Moebius, it's so alien and eldritch. Their lore and antics with their old chums Orks and Necrons, I appreciate painting and playing them more than any other faction.

I'm hearing the Aussies got a fucking knight, shrike, khan, scouts with sniper rifles, and scouts.
How could the Brits get so fucked on the loot box shit? Id kinda be interested in trying my luck on a US box. But I have a terrible gambling habit.

For the price the Aussies paid I should fucking hope they at least got a knight. What GW could have done was used it as a jumping of point for people maybe put in a start collecting set with codex and couple boxed units and or named character.

The start collecting set and codex would have covered almost two thirds the value of the box they really missed a trick here.
