A question about Fantasy, how was the state of the lore before the End Times? I heard it was insanely stagnant even compared to 40k.

Kinda, it just wasn't updated very often. 40k was the same way though. I've been with the hobby since the end of 2nd edition, and apart from a few campaigns for both settings everything was in stasis. This is why where there was a huge shitstorm when the 5th ed necron codex dropped. It was drastically different from what everyone expected. 3rd edition introduced this super grimdark setting than after a while they introduced the tau, a previously unheard of race that came from left field when other background-only races were more prominent in sources like white dwarf(which used to be awesome).

Both were built to be adventure-friendly worlds where you can do your own thing and was more of a secondary thing to the tabletop. More so with fantasy, WFRP was pretty neat just for the lore in those books alone. The bestiary in particular. I miss fantasy.

Compared to the Indomitus box, the starter sets are hilariously underwhelming. I know they said indomitus was for present fans, but like lol you wont use half the shit in these starter boxes.

I can name less than 3 "start collecting" sets with actual useful models in them.
Most of them are quite good at getting your core infantry, an elite unit, and an hq at discount. Especially ones like the Vanguard space marines, which to buy all the individual sets would cost more than double the price.

The only ones that I can think are really shit are the eldar ones. Wraithguard and Wychs should be replaced with guardians and kalabites.

Now, some of you have been fans since the 1990s and perhaps you have a better wealth of knowledge regarding the books GW has published over the years. Is there any story you wished got a proper audiobook?

The Tyranid starter comes with a Mawloc/Trygon, which is the very definition of a goldbrick. The best starters I know of are the Daemon ones, which are full of the essential pieces a new player needs to realize their whole army sucks.

Which is why I'm not bothering. Like da fuq am I gonna do with the Necrons? I'm a Black Templar guy. Just gonna stick to getting manlet marines before they get phased out.

Sell them. The Indomitus Box has like $600 worth of figurines in it, before the fancy book et all. I don't know how easy it'd be to shift them, but in theory you could pay for the box by selling the Necrons on eBay, couldn't you?

The original Admech one was good. Dunecrawler, Rangers, Dominus. Dominus was overkill, but you could shift them on eBay. At the original price it was good, you got... one of them for basically free. Forget which. After the $10 price hike cuz greed it was less good, but still not bad.

The new one I'm not so sure on -- Enginseer, Rangers, Dunerider. I hear the Dunerider as tank is pretty great. $75 + 44 + 33 = 152, $95 price = you getting the Rangers for free and the Enginseer for half price.

I went ahead and ordered a m2o indomitus box. It is a """great deal""" after all considering GW prices.

Well, I didn't think of that. hmmmmm.

I didn't believe it until I talked with my FLGS's owner and we did the math. $300 worth of PSM, $300 worth of Necrons. Book is a Hardcover version of the rulebook, so a few bucks there, too. Both armies are 100% new to this box.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to shift, but in theory, you could get at least some of your money back, if not most of it.

They're doing a good job covering a lot of the cooler stuff since the Horus Heresy series started, even giving us a glimpse into the War in the Webway.

The Fall of the Eldar Empire, and whatever connection they had with humanity at the time. Dark Age of Technology-humanity wasn't nothing to fuck with, but the Eldar was also at the height of their power so it was probably peaceful on most fronts. It's all probably a bit too risque for Black Library to publish though, so I understand if people don't want to write about space alien sex.... Most people anyway. https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Chakat

That's my plan. I'm figuring I'll price the 'crons plus my now-spare rulebook somewhere between $120-160, see where that gets me.

My hopes recently got answered, after listening the first two Caphias Cain(and Gaunt's Ghosts) novels, I discovered the audio books didn't start up again until like the 13th. A month ago Gaunt's Ghosts three got announced and I was hoping Cain would follow, and discovered last week that it had been released earlier this month.

As for the 3 tiered starter sets, they look like they are going to be lower price point, but less cost effective than stuff like Shadowspear and Dark Imperium. The highest tier is just the second with Terrain and a full rulebook. Guesses on price? $60 bucks is probably optimistic for the low end, and I bet the high will cost what Dark Imperium did for less models(I wonder if the cardboard and terrain are to justify the price with out making them as efficient as previous starters for filling out an army.

Edit: Actually, these are pretty similar to First Strike(3 Intercessors, 3 Reivers, 3 Plague Marines, 6 Pox Walkers $40) and Know no Fear(1 Captain, 5 Intercessors, 3 Inceptors, 5 Hellblasters, Lord of Contagion, 5 plague Marines, 10 Poxwalkers, 1 Bloat-drone, $80) You get HQs on top of First Strike, but a lot less than Know No Fear. The Cynic in me thinks They'll charge $60 for Recruit and keep Elite at $80, and $120 for Command. And that'll be 9th Equivalent to those three Starter sets and Indomindus will be the only thing close to those Dark Imperium in terms of savings.

On another subject, I'm getting into my painting, got a Valejo Game Paints starter set, but I'm probably going to be wanting some other droppers. Whats a good cost effective way to get single bottles of paints?

Me and a buddy plan on buying 2 of this new set and trading halves since he loves necrons. Is it worth it to pick back up? I got out after 6th edition dropped and have been thinking about picking it back up because I picked up painting miniatures. I don’t think most of my army would be kosher with WYSIWYG puritans because I had a combination of old disco (90s) marines and old 4th and 5th edition blood angels.

ebay has been pretty good so far them, both HH era and 40k, but with the way things are going i can see them gone by 9/10th edition, and its probably the same for chaos manlets too.

twil be a sad day when it arrives. GK will probably be next in line for the manlet purge.

So personal speculation for what will be in the new Necron start collecting set they will eventually release.

Royal warden
Necron Warriors x10 (push fit kit)
Scarabs x3
Canoptek Reanimator
Skorpehk Destroyers x3

Probably £60 box
