Necroing this thread since i have been watching someone called Executor Nral. He makes custom story campaign maps from Warcraft 3 and even uses AI to have all the NPCs voiced. He even creates new unit models and factions for these videos. It really shows how much potential Reforged has but Blizzard could not help themselves fucking it into the dirt.

Watching a story campaign were Malfurion becomes addicted to magic and decides to fight of the Legion with the Highborn.

Amazing how the entire existence of this product gives the vibes of being made of pure pettiness, not even a fuck up like many of modern gaming remasters, they just took a fat dump on a perfectly working product and left like that until the flies and maggots left years later so they could send 3 guys to finally start fixing it.

Classic Warcraft 3 is stuck with a game breaking bug for 7 months since the 2.0 patch rolled up, by proxy the majority of the custom campaigns are also unplayable if you don't beat missions in one sitting:

Reforged ruined my initial campaign run through, half the enemies were invisible and the music kept wrapping over itself. just played the game on the old version. Pathetic by blizzard.

It's been mentioned before, but the new WC3 menus run off of Google Chrome and basically launch the web browser inside of the game, and take a monstrous amount of memory to do so. The menu will sometimes take up more memory than literally all of WC3 and TFT's original CDs combined. A surprising number of programs now run off of Chrome or require Chrome to run in the background so that Google can run telemetry and diagnostic tests (Steam is like this now).

I plan to host a LAN party with friends to play WC3 custom maps. Does anybody have a source or link to a map archive for preRefunded versions of the game? Also what version do you recommend to run those map with? 1.27?

With widescreen? 1.30.1

1.26b is the most bug-free single-player. This version does not have official widescreen support. Unofficial widescreen mods exist but stretch the UI: https://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/renderedge-graphic-modification-for-warcraft-iii.288375/
1.27b is the latest offline version (only requires the patch file, no need to connect to Battle.net). However, 1.27a introduced the missing ambient sounds bug that didn't get resolved until 1.30.1
1.29.2 is a relatively bug-free single-player with widescreen support. 1.29.1 is also passable but has more bugs. Check the patch notes to see if you mind.
1.30.1 and on fix the ambient sounds issue. This is also the version supported by WC3Connect if you ever want to play online multiplayer including custom maps in a Battle.net-like environment, but outside Blizzard's official Battle.net
1.31.1 is the latest pre-Reforged version. This version added a lot of modding/world editor updates like LUA support.
PTR builds do not support LAN play

Version 1.29.1. (Just to clarify, this is the version that fixed the widescreen issue, so if you are playing on 1.27b you won't have to strain your eyes anymore while playing.)

Version 1.27b (I added all the patches in a folder just in case you need to give them to anyone.)
 
I saw a great human supremacy campaign where garathos takes over for Arthas and just wins through being human. Any one see any other cool ones worth a play. Maybe something more orcy

I just checked because of this lmao, I own it too.

Edit: This might be why. I had keys for the original version added to my account. I guess this is how they want to force people to play Reforged.

That is interesting, because i have (long ago) registered my cd keys for Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, one of 3 sets i had back in the day, on my battlenet account and now i have both the "supposed" installers for

Classic Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne AND Warcraft 3: REEEEforged in my Classic Games and Games tabs, respectively.

Still won't bother to install Blizz launcher to check it out, i have a pirated copy of Frozen Throne along with SKIDROW crack, so i can always run that, if the original cd-keys won't work anymore.

Fuck blizzard and their hand, imposing changes upon you: impose deeeeez nuts faggots.

I've got some version of 1.31.1 that reckons it's a PTR build, and the LAN works:
Hitting the LAN option freezes the game for a couple minutes, but it does actually download and install some kind of TCP/IP replacement middleware in the background (don't remember what it's called)

I've been able to connect melee and custom LAN games between my personal computer, a friend's computer, our communal garage NUC, and a shitty little chromebook thingy.

Don't know the exact version number off the top of my head, I'll check when I get home from work but it's definitely a 1.31.1 PTR with wide-screen and (at least some of?) the map editor updates.

I don't run it through the PT launcher though, I run it using the x86_64 executable

The clarify, they'll only be unusable to get a free copy of reforged.

The original game doesn't require an Internet connection to play, so it's not possible for them to retroactively stop your CD keys from working if you just want to play the original version of the game in single player or over LAN or something.
 
i couldn't find a thread but jeettube recommended me a video about a dude that finished both WC3 ROC and TFT for the first time.
i don't know if it was performative jeettuber shit but he claimed to be deeply infatuated with how everything played out, especially the lack of cinematics due to how modern gayming does and seeing his teardown of the lore reminded me why i hate world of trannycraft and modern day blizzard, fucking cucks.
