After reading through nearly this entire thread, I'm pretty surprised by the lack of angry Klance shippers shown here. I haven't seen more than maybe 5 episodes of the show itself, but even I had heard about all the batshit insane shippers harassing and blackmailing the studio. The ones who shipped Shiro and Keith actually seemed to be the more tame of the two, but I guess was mistaken.

So did the Klance shippers just give up? Or were they somehow satiated with the ending? I'm curious.

While on the topic of Pidge, am I the only one who thinks her design looks oddly familiar?

Both are smart
Both wear green
Both are crossdressers of some kind
Both have similar hairstyles
Did they just rip-off Danganronpa?
Just a thought though. Probably just a coincidence.

It's funny because fans of either community insists that both these characters are transgender or nonbinary, regardless of if said character directly stated they identify with their birth gender.

Klance shippers moved on to whining about the canon Allurance. Some of them are still claiming their ship "has a chance because Allura died," but while definitely stupid, they're nowhere near as whiny as the Sheith shippers. That group legit thought their ship would be the canon one and got so locked into it they shat themselves in horror when proven wrong.

Sheith fandom strikes again, because almost 2 years later they can't let it go. This time, they're attacking a Curtis/Shiro fan who asked Josh Keaton for his personal headcanons on the ship, ones he seemed perfectly happy to provide. Since Sheith fandom can't fathom being mad at Josh because 'he's on their side', they shriek about how the fan FORCED him to talk about Evil Curtains and was totally put on the spot!

The original post from the Curtis/Shiro fan:

Their reaction when Sheith fandom started shrieking:

Actual Sheith fandom tantrums:
https://archive.ph/KU4XR "We can insult m-m-m-m-man all we want based on utter bullshit, how dare his fans enjoy him!'

https://archive.ph/ph9ky "But we can project onto Keith all we want and make him a whiny little incel cunt, but don't call him an incel cause it offends us!"

>"HOW DARE ANYONE SAY WE MAKE KEITH AN INCEL! ANTIIIIIISSSS!!!"
I'm fairly sure the OP of that one has been spotted using LITERAL incel logic in regards to Keith and Shiro, saying that Shiro not marrying Keith made him "a bad friend" and that Keith is owed Shiro-cock for DOING SO MUCH FOR HIM.

Their envious, bitchy tears give me life, oh my White Lion. You just KNOW these titbabes would have orgasms if these questions were Sheith related. :story:

Half OP's fics are Keith whining and throwing tantrums and being an utter cunt at Shiro for loving someone else. I shudder to think how this person acts in any REAL relationships they have.

aren't they being racist by calling a POC "cucaracha"?
I love when sjwtards show their true colors.

The other half has Shiro being a bitchy, hateful dick about Curtis (including one "fic" where he openly rants about how much he hates him). So it's obvious that they don't even like the Sheith relationship as it is or could have been, they only liked some fanon version of it and are MAD that it wasn't canon

Considering that's the word for "cockroach", that Curtis is one of the human charas with the darkest skin color in canon (iirc only Ryan from the MFE group is darker) AND that Keith can pass as white bc he doesn't have his mother's alien tones? YEAH, IT'S RACIST AS FUCK.

In a sense I like these terrible fandoms. Makes adults liking cartoons cringe, like it should be. We can all have the maturity to admit they're for kids. And if we're honest with ourselves for a minute we prefer it that way (ideally twelve year olds so they're not too stupid).

I think it's even more amazing to have a bunch of spoiled, entitled, self-centered Nice Fangirls (tm) STILL bawling and crying over not getting the ship that they expected to be handed over after kissing VLD staff ass for several years straight. :story:

Also, change your arguments. I've seen the "Keith deserved Shiro", "Adam was ableist", "MAN MAN MAN MAAAAAAN!!!", "the K//lantis ruined EVERYTHING but we did nothing" crap way too many times.

It's comical at this point, how they think their constant tantrums and whining will change anything. Like, you know how in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Homura keeps resetting the timeline, or the time-rewind feature in FE15 and FE16? Sheith fandom is literally rewinding back to December 14th 2018 over and over like they can change the series to give them their precious ship once and for all.

After reading through this entire thread, I am very happy I decided to drop the series after season 1. The alphabet mafia ruins another perfectly serviceable cartoon.

Also, it's pretty funny to see a majority of the fanbase crying over the sinking of their gay ships, while the few who wanted het ships to win (Kallura, plance) are perfectly happy to continue enjoying their fanart/fanfics in peace. Guess it's because that is how an anime version would have played out since it makes sense.

I've caught up on this thread, and its been a fun ride and trip down memory lane. What a strange shitshow this fandom was. I always found Sheiths annoying, so its nice to see plenty of shitting on the Sheith cows here.

That's basically how it worked for anyone who didn't ship the main two (Klance and Sheith). We just went about it in our corners and didn't waste our time seething over muh canon and muh representation. Well, mostly. Loturas were a special breed of retarded too.

As for the show itself, I found it very enjoyable yet highly flawed, if that makes sense. Few shows have stuck with me as well, but also frustrated me so. It's obvious they were constantly amending things and making up shit halfassed as they went along, and there was definitely a share of missed opportunities, and lore and backstories I would have loved to see explored. Perhaps if the show hadn't ended in such a massive shitshow with its autistic "fans", we could have gotten supplemental content. But, corporate buyouts and pandemic bullshit would have likely cucked us out of that too.

Oh well, at least I saved nice fan art over the years, especially of the Galra. Best designs in the show, in my opinion.

Decided to read this thread and bump it years later to take a good look as to all of the drama surrounding this particular fandom, since I heard a lot about it but never understood what it was about.
I ran into fans of this show around 2015-2016 over on iFunny, which back then, dunno if it is that way now, you had all sorts of people from every place you can think of posting stuff, and one of those groups were tumblr fandoms, which was my first experience seeing these people (was also where I discovered Kpop stans). Back then there were a ton of Voltron fans from Tumblr who all they did was post gay art of the show and their drawings, wasn't funny at all yet that's what they posted, and it annoyed the shit out me trying to find some funny stuff and running into that trash. Well thankfully the show is long dead along with Tumblr (for the most part), and the people who used to love it have now turned on it and have mostly forgotten about it.

Depending on how the movie performs we may actually see a resurgence of the franchise.

I couldn't find any updates beyond December 2024 and he is currently working with Amazon on the Warhammer project so no telling when it comes out of at all.

To be honest this is just striking the anvil when its ice cold, might get interest of people who were fans of the original series but most people who were fans of that netflix crap are done with the series, and have moved on to other crap. Plus I don't think too many of those tumblr fans really like Henry Cavill right now.

Anyways I think the biggest influence that the Netflix series had, but I could be wrong on this it might have predated it, is that it likely popularized this ugly faux-anime style that we used to see everywhere on Tumblr. they used to draw Voltron art in this style all of the fucking time.

Mecha franchises that aren't Gundam and Evangelion are hard to maintain in resurgences given how niche it is, and that mecha is hard to pull off (seriously) in live-action. If it's faithful and doesn't shit over the Voltron names, I can see the Voltron fanbase embracing the movie, but I don't see more fans being born from it to convince companies to invest in the series again.

It also depends on how well the movie performs. Pacific Rim I think just got lucky when it did, and even then it only managed to develop a small fanbase. Normies just aren't into giant robots.
