Vancouver actor and Stargate family member Kirby Morrow passed away yesterday at the age of 47, his family announced today.

Morrow played Captain Dave Kleinman, weapons officer on the bridge of the U.S.S. Daedalus, in a recurring role on Stargate Atlantis. The character also made the leap to Stargate Universe in 2009, appearing on board the U.S.S. George Hammond in “Incursion, Part 1.”

Prior to his eight credited appearances on Atlantis, Morrow also had a pair of smaller roles on Stargate SG-1. He appeared as a militia man in the first-season episode “Cor’ai,” and played a Jaffa in Season Five’s “The Warrior.”

GateWorld talked with Kirby about his work on Stargate in 2009, with a very fun conversation at Creation’s Stargate convention in Vancouver.

Kirby’s brother Casey posted the news on social media, saying that the family does not yet have further details. He wrote: “Kirby was a blessed and talented individual who brought joy to so many but also thrived off all your love and friendship. He lived for it and it fueled him every day.”

Born in Alberta, Canada, in 1973, Morrow trained at the Mount Royal University in Calgary. In his acting career Morrow tallied nearly 200 credits, according to IMDb, including extensive voicework for animation. He voiced Cyclops in X-Men: Evolution, Goku in Dragon Ball Z, Miroku in the anime series Inuyasha, and Michaelangelo in Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. He played Tony Stark in the mini-series Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk and Eternals, and Hot Shot in Transformers: Cybertron. And he had recurring live-action roles on Supergirl and Legion.

He also provided the voice of Cole (and several other characters) in the LEGO Ninjago TV series.

Behind the camera, Kirby wrote and directed the 2005 short The Boxing Day Classic. He was also a regular convention-goer, enjoying the chance to meet his fans in person. Because of his extensive work in animation he is especially beloved among the Dragon Ball, Marvel, anime, and TMNT fan communities.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to Kirby’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Reportedly, on the night of his death, screaming was heard along with someone yelling "I am the real Goku!". A currently unidentified man, described as overweight with long unkempt hair was seen leaving the premises.

The investigation is still ongoing.

No, Ian Corlett's still around. Kirby's the fourth North American dub voice and third Canadian one.
Oops, there I go shooting my mouth off without actually being fully informed.

Still, I'm sorry to hear it either way, RIP.

He's not dead, he just willed his soul into Gaea to reincarnate himself as the prince of Fanelia.

Nngh, this hurts, actually, he was still young. I hope he didn't feel any pain, whatever the cause was.

Probably his best and longest role, the one that younger fans would know him as is Cole, the Black Ninja on the show Ninjago. I think they just hit 13 seasons. Even sadder, the most recent season supposedly focuses on his character.
What happened to him?

RIP.
“the family does not yet have further details”
That almost always means drug overdose or suicide. Very sad.

His father died on November 10th. I'm seriously hoping it's not what I fear it is
