I also don't think she suffers from depression. She doesn't act like a few depressed people I know irl. She just googles stuff and diagnose herself for views and pity
I think the depresshuns is real but its situational, not chemical. She has a totally aimless, pointless life lived at the lowest sustenance level and without ambition, goals, necessity, interest and all the other things devoid from her life, she'll be depressed through sheer, unmitigated boredom. We're all also pretty much agreed she is really not in any way fulfilled with Becky - which is kinda sad, cos I think Becky either does love her or has persuaded herself she does.
Amber has got the life she wanted, that of utter sloth. The only thing she has which could be called anything like an interest is her writeeeeen, and that's entirely self-referential. That is probably pretty similar to the idea of hell for most of us, stuck in a porch in Bumfuck with a Thumb that drives you round the bend with boredom and absolutely no way to escape, physically or mentally. No tablets gonna fix that. Becky, however, seems to have true clinical depression - she's the one that needs a fuckload of Prozac and if Amber gave the tiniest flying fuck about anything except herself, she would attend to her gooorlfren's mental health. But a depressed Becky is one that will never escape this codependent hell.
The real irony is that the only people who do any of the things that would help Amber, like hold accountability, expect responsibility, want to see her do better, are The Haydurz™. I can't stand her, but I don't want her stuck in a bed pissing on herself before she's thirty, and if she could get some sense of achievement from anything it would make her a better person.
