🌟 Internet FamousViva & Barnes + Richard Baris - Balldowasher, delusional "constitutionialst", the "confession through projection" guy who accuses people denouncing child abuse of paedophilia.
High earning for a couple years and don't pay. Self-employed people don't have their taxes paid automatically by their employer. A lot, a lot of people would owe massive tax bills except that
1. Their taxes are paid by their employer; and,
2. They aren't net taxpayers anyway.
People frequently owe money for stupid reasons (I've seen people who got too-large returns because of the tax authority's mistake and the authority just 'decides' that due to their inability to do math, this cleaning lady now owes them 10K). But this is Barnes so most likely explanation is he has some internal reason he thinks he doesn't have to pay, so he didn't.
I volunteer through my church to do taxes for people. Obviously, it's supposed to be a service for the poor.
You would not believe the number of assholes that show up, expecting me to do their taxes, when they make well over $200k a year and want me to work the numbers just right because they are eyeballs deep in debt and need their return to keep their heads barely above water..
I am just reporting on what Mike Davis xeeted out on Wednesday. Nobody else seemed to catch it, so I thought I'd bring it up. I do not, in any way, profess to be a tax expert, or have any insider knowledge on what's going on here.
This revelation is funny to me because Barnes is a gasbag who has always bloviated how he's such a tax law expert (in addition to the Constitutional law expert he pretty clearly is not). The Snipes trial is like his "Al Bundy Polk High School x touchdowns in a single game" moment, and that happened back in 2008. Yet he pretty clearly got into a massive amount of hock with the IRS some years later.
Some Additional Context:
What prompted that xeet from Mike was this exchange between his lawyer and Barnes.
Barnes has been threatening to sue Davis and Chamberlain in California for defamation for some time now (details in letter below). They aren't intimidated by Barnes's threats, and their lawyer (Jessie Franklin-Murdoch) basically told Boss Baby to bring it on in a publicly published letter dated February 17th.
I figure if this goes hot, it might warrant a thread in Lolcow & Lolcow LLP at some point.

I happen to know a tax lawyer who rejected Snipes as a client before Snipes went to Barnes. Unfortunately he’s a voice to text boomer and I can’t decipher what he’s saying here but feel free to try yourself:

So, is there a 10 year statute of limitations on federal taxes? .. My dad always said keep 5 years of records and that's what I've done my whole life because I thought that was the max audit period. I've never had a business though...

I'm not entirely sure, but given your friend's mention of 10 years and "older years," he may be referring to this, maybe?
There are several years of unpaid back taxes listed on that lien, with the first year of assessment by the IRS occurring in 2013.
Something I will note is that while Mike Davis and others are using language which suggests that this lien is still a problem for Barnes, his lawyer did say on page 2 of his "sue us already or fuck off" letter that "you had tax lien."
It's therefore difficult to say whether it is still in effect, or been modified, or what. Davis, Chamberlain, and their lawyer all seem convinced the document is definitely genuine though.
Aside:
People on X who looked up Barnes's address printed on that document were not particularly impressed by his house.

lol okay ... middle-class dumbass question time. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU END UP OWING THE IRS SIX FIGURES? Under any circumstances, ever, at all. Like, how? How do you "forget" to pay that much fucking tax?
Barnes pulling in a million in one year isn't unreasonable, that he didn't pay taxes on it means he thought he was clever. I remember he ran a for profit "non-profit". He would claim that the only reason to run a 501(c)3 is to have the IRS go through all your books. And he fights the taxman! So be sure to dump money on him with zero accountability. Don't worry, he'll ambulance chase up some cases.
Barnes has been having numerous meltdowns on X lately. He has been fighting with everyone and looks to now be repositioning himself as anti-MAGA. He even defended the Minneapolis rioters.

Related post from the politics thread. Barnes and Baris laughing about winning big on election bets against Thomas Massie. Election bets that went against Baris' frantic polling and months-long spiral over how Thomas Massie was being treated by Trump.
@REGENDarySumanai Might want to add Richard Baris to this thread title. He is part of this group with Viva and Barnes. And he is having a bad year.
Baris was a very early adopter of Locals and, like literally every other active Locals out there, it is a voluntary insane asylum. When I was a paid supporter, most members made their posts supporters only and Rich used it as a diary/sounding board for poll question design, so if you’re wondering how he gets insane results like “1 in 5 Americans say they know someone the vaxx maimed/killed” and “Massie is +60 w/ leaners with black teenagers who are definitely going to turn out to defeat Israel”, that probably has something to do with it. Some assorted gems from what I could skim from public posts:
Buddy’s not taking the loss in stride
Airstriking Muslims on the other side of the planet because they want a nuke and they can’t stop you from bombing them: traitorous, imperialist, probably even racist
Half ass an invasion against your neighbor and get 100,000 of your own soldiers killed: based, standing up to Satan and the Mossad-Pedophile Cabal
Whoa Buddy
And then there’s this utterly embarassing image Rich has been using as a thumbnail on Locals:
This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill—life goes on, you keep your penis, your family talks to you at Thanksgiving. You take the red pill—you stay in MAGAland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I'm offering is early access to my dogshit polls. Buy my new book.
As an aside is there any appetite for an effortpost on Rich? Off the top of my head I recall some pretty kooky episodes from the past few years:
- incessantly anklebiting Nate Silver + other pollsters
- vague allusions to some sort of drug addiction
- vague allusions to his time as Special Forces (I always heard this and maybe saw a photo he shared but have never seen this independently verified)
- him or his wife’s bizarre domestic abuse charge that was dropped
- the home invasion and kidnapping arrest
- insane survival kit and generator shilling
- UFO wonkery, claiming to have seen a UFO in person with his kids in the car
- getting red and slamming the table so hard and so frequently that his wife forced him to stop doing it
But it would take honest to god months of scraping and listening to old episodes.
