I am late to the Virgie party, as I just decided to pop into this thread out of curiosity. There isn't a "holy shit" loud enough in the universe to successfully convey how hideous this creature is, inside and out. Her faux-intellectualism. Her bitterness and sense of superiority. The hill she is choosing to die on--literally--which is chronically overeating and calling it empowerment. And then that face.

She may very well be one of the top 5 ugliest human beings I've seen, and that is saying something. I can't get over how misshapen, blighted, aged, and worn her face is. That's one of the most coarse-featured, genetically-cursed chicks I have ever fucking seen. But it's the face she deserves, because by all accounts and by what I've read here, this beast is a top-tier asshole.

On the faux intellectualism: Virgie has...some unique self esteem issues. For one, she constantly bills herself as a "body image expert." Really makes herself sound like a 12 year old bragging to his friends in the schoolyard that he totally got laid.
And she has an unintentionally hilarious habit of declaring her degree on her books and other bullshit. She has a masters, but no terminal degree like Ed.Phd, Phd, or MFA. Like butternut Greer, she loves to mention her shitty degree apropos of nothing. It's just another sign of how pathetic she truly is.
EDIT: I tried to find some old images of her books and talks where her MS was listed. She also billed herself as a "sex therapist" but I couldn't find images showing that either. Wondering if she got called out on that bullshit enough and scrubbed the evidence.

Yeah, it's possible she got a "consolation prize" Master's after filling the requirements for one, but not having what it took to go on for the PhD.
Whatever I may think of Virgie's FA bullshit, however, I have to admit she's got enough intelligence and street smarts to have bailed out on her own, for good reasons. She may have realized just how the academic sausage gets made and been smart enough to leave with a terminal Master's, rather than waste her time on the PhD.
While being Hispanic would give her a serious boost, the academic job market is still shit, and not getting any better. Her MA (according to her bio on Ravishly) is in "Human Sexuality, with a focus on the intersections of body size, race, and gender," FWIW. There weren't exactly going to be a lot of tenure-track positions open for her. And maybe she didn't want to get locked into the teaching-and-publishing grind required to get tenure, or have to pick up and move cross-country to whatever college would offer her tenure-track employment. Maybe her teaching experiences as a grad student, and dealings with academic bureaucracy and the stupid, petty politics were enough to convince her that academia was not where she wanted to be. Grad school is fucking miserable, and if the prize at the end turns out not to be what you really want, taking your MA and getting the fuck out really is the sane option.
She's rare among the FA crowd in that she has the ambition, organizational ability, and persistence needed to make a plan and carry it out, so I do think she could have earned the PhD if she really wanted to. I just don't think she wanted to. She has a lot more freedom to write the kind of stuff she likes, and make videos, and do speaking engagements than she would if she were still in academia, and she's probably making about the same amount of money, without having to sit in stupid meetings, or deal with students and their bullshit, or deal with campus bureaucracy. And she gets to stay in the Bay Area, which she almost certainly would not, had she earned the PhD and gone looking for a professor gig.
tl;dr: Virgie is fat and repulsive and has shitty ideas, and I would not have sex with her, but there are some very good reasons why she might have chosen to stop at an MA instead of going on for a PhD.

Ugh, I'd hate to be at the table with Virgie and her fat friends if they think eating like Foodie Beauty or Jack Scalfani is normal or acceptable. I guess I'll add "table manners" to the list of things that are inexplicably derided as a tool of the patriarchy, I'm surprised she didn't say they're also racist. Table manners don't exist to oppress women you fat fuck, they're meant to avoid grossing out other people enough to put them off their meal. I could kind of understand if she was making fun of snooty rich people shit like thinking someone is scum for eating their salad with their pickle fork or putting your wine glass on the side your water glass is supposed to be or whatever, but expecting you not to eat like a literal pig at the slop trough is not an unreasonable request.

Well, and that's the problem, too: Humans do love food (especially certain kinds); and even just a century or two ago, that wasn't as big of a deal because we didn't have the resources to get AS much of the food we love whenever we want it. Evolution has not caught up with the fact that humans, generally speaking, don't have to work as hard for our food as we did in years past, or that we have less need for excess fat than we did before. Didn't hurt to have a little extra fat on you when you lived in a time and place where famine was right around the corner; but when you live in 21st century America, a little extra fat can very easily turn into a lot of extra fat with the wrong set of behaviors and choices.
As I was typing this, I was trying to figure out why Virgie's rant irritated me so much (aside from the obvious) and I realized that she sounds very similar to the kind of people who say "women's bodies were made for having babies- so what do you need a hospital for! we didn't have vaccines for thousands of years and we did fine, so why does my kid need a polio vaccine?"
She seems to be doing a low-key "appeal to nature" argument here: We were made to love food, it's natural, so it can't be wrong!

Lol at her citing a fellow "eating disorder survivor" as an expert, which is just code for "fat" at this point. They usually don't come out and say anorexia because they know damn well it isn't true and probably would be asked to provide tangible evidence of this, instead they just insist they used to starve and over exercise but never lost weight because diets don't work, obviously (or post 1 or 2 blurry photos of themselves at the higher end of a healthy weight if even that). It used to be a stupid joke when huge fat guys wore shirts that said "I beat anorexia!" but the inherent comedy in lard barges saying this never seems to dawn on FAs who expect to be taken right serious.
