Getting a fringe cut can be seen as a more feminine and youthful haircut as well.
Most of them do it because the pin up or rockabilly look is (in theory) more flattering to larger figures. Poor Bettie Page, a size 2 at the peak of her fame, somehow got coopted into the Patron Saint of Lard. I dunno if that was Virgie's inspiration but anything that covers more of her face is good with me.
Her BabeCamp has apparently declined to an online only 4 week 'course'. Her yearly meet up, this go round called Camp Thunder Thighs, continues to decline. At one point they had a trip to Jamaica that had possibly 15-20 participants. Last year, it was only 5. It will be interesting to see this year's turn out, $689 a pop to go.

JFC, the online version is not that much better at $297. And that just includes two (prerecorded?) lectures, a general daily email affirmation and an invitation to join a private FB group. I always wondered how she was able to afford living in SF, guess there is a lot of money in telling insecure fat women they are stunning flawless goddesses.

An article about the "Flower Power" photo. It's the photo that Virgie posted for International Women's Day. Here are the parts that stood out in the article:

"On the way up we talked about dating, tarot, and the mandatory snacks we were going to pick up at the grocery store. I wanted a campy-yet-elevated menu, an homage to the foods we'd been taught we weren't allowed to have because we're fat: puffy Cheetos, Quadratini, Nutella, chicken wings. Food has always been an important part of the fat activist gatherings I've attended. It's part reclamation, part self-care, and part fuck-you."

"Zohn and I had been texting back-and-forth about some of her thin friends who offered to put on lab coats for the shoot and represent the medical industry, which has long pathologized fatness, neglected fat women's health, and that has consistently provided the empirical basis that facilitates the diet industry. I was grateful that they were willing to represent the "bad guys." I also felt awkward that I had to name the dynamic that so often goes unexpressed: Their lives as thin people are different—better and easier—because they don't look like me or Zohn or the fat models."

"In that room, though, we talked about how nice it felt to eat and be naked and chafed and tired with people whose bodies looked like ours. Our intimacy filled the silences with sweet, thick comfort."

Imagine being 35 and thinking that buying Cheetos is a powerful act of rebellion on par with resisting the war in Vietnam.

Seriously. And talk about privilege.

Also here's Virgie legit looking 65+:

And here's a guy who allegedly took her on a date, hmm:

I'd say they are a looksmatch but to be fair he's like a 3/10 manlet with a shitty beard and a skinny fat build but virgie would kille to be a 3/10 on her side of the aisle. She's dating up, how cute.

Does her fat pride schtick have some manifesto against exfoliating? Like, christ allmighty, Virgie, your skin texture is horrendous.
Dude isn't facing the camera, not tagged...so not buying this. Not sure how he got there but I don't think it was because he was pounding the beetus poon.

You know how they have ugliest dog contests? Virgie would certainly be a top vote getter in the ugliest human woman contest. Thin or fat she has one of the ugliest combinations of features I’ve ever seen on one human. I’m still shocked at seeing a nose that wide on person not of African heritage. Most black ppl with noses that wide have full lips and large eyes that balance the face, but not Virgie. She’s got that huge wide flat nose and then small eyes and pinched lips. It’s about the most unfortunate combination possible. Human beauty is about symmetry and Virgies face is devoid of it entirely.

On the plus side we now know where Michael Jackson’s original nose ended up - Virgie’s face.

I almost can’t believe above scenario isn’t some troll joke.

To think these get togethers involve morbidly obese women, chafed from all their fat rolls, sitting around naked eating Cheetos. No sound but the satisfied sounds of chewing and lip smacking. It’s not a stereotype, this is how they spend a large amount of their life.

I want to believe that if she took better care of her health she would at least look human. :optimistic: All of the junk food she eats, has really taken a toll on her skin.

@MirnaMinkoff -- Indeed. A lot of folks with more negroid features like wide nose balance it out with a wide face, high cheekbones and a jawline. How the fuck she got that nose, with that jaw and those too closely set eyes must have been the Creator playing a joke.

Perhaps some plucky heroin addict will find inspiration in this article, and work to fight the medical industry's habit of pathologizing frugal addicts who share needles to save money.

Exfoliating, for Virgie, would be a complete waste of time. Skin that shitty is due to bad diet, including foods that may seem healthy, but that she probably has intolerances to--dairy comes to mind, given that she's descended from people who have only in the last 100 years or so consumed mīlk and dairy products in any significant quantity. Whether she knows it or not, she has an ongoing, low-grade inflammatory response to something she's eating (and it could be many somethings), and it shows in her absolutely terrible skin.

Hormones probably play a role as well, and her obesity not only doesn't help with that at all, it's likely what's driving it.

Despite any claims she may make about her good health, she is not healthy. She may not feel bad enough to feel any concern about it; she may write off her gravelly skin as just "genetics," or a hormonal response that, she insists, has nothing to do with what she eats or how fat she is; but eventually it's all going to catch up with her. And when it does? It's going to be really ugly. She hasn't got a fucking clue how much.

Not exactly reclaiming anything when living up to the negative stereotypes that fat people do nothing but eat shit food and think about food. Also not exactly self care when you're ruining your body and the chocolates and Cheetos aren't a treat as you eat them regardless of the event. A real treat to your body would probably be a carrot or something

She didn’t the courage to re-make this iconic anti-war photo

Drama alert! Some of you are perhaps familiar with an older FA schill (ostensibly a "writer") Lindy West. Lindy West is a 40 something morbidly obese white woman from Seattle that jumped on the "fat girl power" bandwagon back in its nascent days (think Kate Harding, Shakesville and so on) and has created an entire persona around the powerful lessons of being a loud, fat, proud FA that takes up space. She's parlayed this into a mainstream career as a writer and recently turned one of her books -- "Shrill" -- into a short TV series. Why there is a market for this I don't know, but there is apparently a very large market for telling fat basic white bitches that they are special unicorns.

The trailer is, well, you can watch it. If you like dime store punchlines involving fat girls having sex, fat girls on diets, and fat girls struggling at work it's the show for you.

Now where is this heading? Well Virgie is claiming that West lifted an entire scene in the show -- a scene where a fat woman has an epiphany while seeing other pampered, spoiled fat bitches eating around a pool -- from Virgie's book.

This could be good! I hope it blows up into a huge fat cat fight between these two heavyweight fighters.

Here's a bunch more comments from the post and the rest of Virgie's thoughts.

  • [Virgie] But this issue hit me in a really deep place as a woman of color. I can't exactly explain how it feels to watch a white woman become the focal point of a very important, deeply personal, deeply vulnerable moment in my life. It is angering but it's more - it felt violatory, it felt like I had been denied authorship of one of the most important moments of my life. I felt the deep hurt that America doesn't want to see someone who looks like me have a beautiful, consciousness-shifting moment. I decided to speak up because I wanted to give voice to others with multiple marginalizations whose work gets stolen, and to pass on to them what the people who responded said to me: you're not petty for speaking up in the face of wrong-doing. This is my epiphany story from my Tedx talk, which I gave in June 2017.

@nellopea she really tried to act like
@virgietovar hasn’t been and isn’t out here. That’s what white women do when they want to skirt accountability, “I don’t even really know who you are though”
  • littlewingedpotatoes
@lenore.kaye I'm sorry you've never heard of or attended a fat pool party but I assure you they have been around since long before Virgie's TED talk or book and MANY fat people have attended them. I don't see obvious plagiarism, and I even rewatched the episode AND Virgie's talk AND flipped through her book last night to make sure I wasn't missing it. There's no parasol or redhead in a red polka dot bikini. All that's there is, you know, a pool party and a breezeway.
  • curvystreets
    @ashleighchubbybunny soooo true.
  • littlewingedpotatoes
@nellopea Yet despite the fact that Lindy didn't write that episode, she is the person Virgie has chosen to call out. I'm not even sure based on this exchange whether Virgie had bothered to learn that @bitchesgottaeat wrote the episode, and she admitted she didn't even contact her before publicly accusing her of plagiarism.
  • kerryrio
Didn't @bitchesgottaeat write this episode though?
  • kelseyscooking
    @aidybryant @shrillhulu@hulu I want answers please .

Maddening and we know this feeling too well... ?
  • belamwork
@virgietovar Your work and your advocacy are too important to stand down in this moment. You are completely right to speak out and feel the way that you do! (I certainly have experienced similar situations with pain and doubt in the past.) You are my daily inspiration and you are loved and supported. So grateful for you. ❤️
  • howaphalling
@virgietovar we see you, we appreciate your art, and we are going to bat for you. This is not ok. You are enough, and please don’t let this dull your shine ?

@rachellord55 Middle aged white lady in the US, but same. I’d actually watched/listened to a bunch of podcasts when I finally watched the TedTalk, and I was like, “THAT’S NOT HER!” and then I sent it to every woman I know. So even people who aren’t “into” body liberation have heard of/seen this. I assumed Ms. Tovar had been a consultant.
  • jsbourkland
I don’t understand, have people really not read @bitchesgottaeat?
  • honeymahogany
    Girl... gurrrl.... GIRL! ✊?✊?✊?
  • laydeegrinningsoul
@virgietovar I'm watching episode 5 and there's a story line of her tracking down her troll and that her troll attacks her I'll father is taken from a story I heard on TAL (only the woman who was being trolled's father was dead). Just noticing they might be picking and choosing from more than just your story. Real bummer
  • kjb7812
Oh wow. That’s awful. I’m so sorry.
  • nellopea
@littlewingedpotatoes huh? Lindy is the public face of the project; she should have consulted with her writing team prior to even trying to respond. I’m not sure your point (or really why I’m even responding) but thanks for playing
  • bethannefarias
I thought of your book immediately when I heard clips from this scene on NPR!

"I once wrote a blog post where I mentioned having a crush on a classmate in elementary school. Then Lindy West had the gall to claim SHE had a crush on a classmate in elementary school! That bitch done plagiarized me!"

Lindy West gets to write for The Guardian. Is that because they rate her as someone with info and opinions worthy of a platform in respected national newspaper? No, not quite. The Guardian - as can be seen by their frantic begging pops - are desperately in need of funding. So Lindy is one of their pet shrill shills that will provide - at basic rates and on any topic that she can spin to write about herself without too much effort - lots of the necessary life-giving hatebait . Needless to say, such occasions also give their pearl-clutching Comment moderators a thorough workout in deleting the slew of comments calling her out on her self-regarding subnormal hambeast bullshit.

And for that platform - and because it is her signature emotion - Virgie is furious with jealousy.

When I see HAES proponents (and actually this applies to all SJWs who are undesirable) lying about how much sex with hotties they have, the main question I have is if there’s any truth to it at all. The realistic options are that Tovar never has sex with anyone or she has lots of sex but with men who are at least as gross as she is. And, if it’s the latter option, is she intentionally lying about those dudes being hot, or is she deluded enough to think that they are?

Although, I’m more inclined to think she’s lying. I can’t picture her having success on Tinder unless she’s attracting chasers with really low standards or unless she’s advertising herself as willing to do literally anything in the sack.
Even chasers generally have some standard. I mean, there are some sick fucks who would fuck anything that moved...or didn't move if they could. Most chubby chasers one would think would at least want some attractive feature. A pretty face, big tits, nice hair, good fashion sense, a great personality, a nice (albeit big) shape. Virgie's got none of that going on.

Even with her unfortunate looks I don't doubt she could find a meaningful relationship with a decent man if she wasn't such a narcissistic cunt. That's where it all falls down. It's a shame she's not a lesbian. I believe Amberlynn's Becky may be looking for another partner before year end.

Virgie is stepping on the wrong fucking toes right now. By accusing Lindy of plagiarism when a black woman (Samantha Irby) actually wrote that episode, she's now poked the woke hornet's nest. Within Virgie's and Lindy's circles and obsession with identity politics, it's anathema to accuse "WOC" of any wrongdoing, and in this case, the WOC in question didn't even do anything wrong.

This is narcissism at its most obvious: Ruining relationships with people who in theory support you and align with all the shit you spew just because you view them as competition or you're an envious, attention-seeking asshole.

I just want to lock this bitch and Russell Greer inside a cheap motel room for a week, with nothing but an endless supply of Colossal Crunch, and see if love develops.
