TL;DR: you aren't allowed to say anything mean :( especially to our hard-working perfect Austrian overlord who only makes good decisions
Why do communities and forums insist on cracking down on anything negative like this? Like, I think it has its place, sometimes it makes sense to do, but if you want to have like a fucking community it always leads to it imploding down the line.

I'm willing to cope and believe this Hytale shit might actually work out (since they'll actually release it), but shutting down people fearing what might happen isn't how you eliminate such opinions - you have to prove this won't affect Vintage Story.

Speedrun finding the George Floyd (probably just an easter island head) monument. Would also suggest making a poll or something on what mods should be included if you decide on the server update/wipe.
Double poosting, but I've asked like a page ago, I think.
Some people suggested stuff, feel free to ask for anything really.

4. Use Reactions Responsibly & Know When to Step Back is especially rich considering the forum doesn't actually have a dislike reaction. The closest is :\ or "Wolf Bait", whatever the hell that means. You know you've lost the plot when you start policing arbitrary peanut gallery numbers :null:
Computer, enhance.

Is that a tranny janny?

How is nobody posting about how Tyron is hiring the failed HyTale developers and deciding to bundle a whole new "Adventure Mode" with Vintage Story?
If he's hiring people on the art side of things it could work. He seems to have the mechanics down, the main issue is fleshing out the different biomes with assets to make them unique and work exploring. Putting them to work on flora and fauna might be a good idea.

The adventure mode annoys me a bit because I'd love to see the gritty realism coupled with a more fantasy/historical vibe and less of the stability/instability and rifts aspects. It's annoying that they want to strip the realism out when it's the defining feature of the brand.

If that's the case then I have no clue how I've ended up on this map from the saved IP of the server I have on my list. Here's some of that terrain I mentioned, even if it is from some random server.View attachment 7621922View attachment 7621906View attachment 7621913
The server has the Rivers mod installed, it just didn't work, and I didn't bother fixing it, as most people would tell you it just doesn't work with multiplayer.

Though, after testing and reading a bit, I've found out it does work, you just need to get all the files the mod generates (Not just the mod itself).

If you're playing on singeplayer, that is, if not then I have no clue - as the server has no rivers.

Speaking of, the OG Rivers mod is supposedly safe, so should I try to get that working or the fork of it? (Doesn't have flowing water)

But speaking as someone with over a decade of experience moderating forums and online discussions, I like to think I have at least some idea of what I’m talking about? Maybe?
Lol no. If this is how you treat mild criticism then no you don't.
Wolf Bait
Wolf Bait usually means "noob" or something akin to that, I'm assuming since the lowest rank on the forum is called that.

Everything else sounds retarded and is a bad sign for things to come. What even could have caused this specifically? Or is it just a preemptive?
You know you've lost the plot when you start policing arbitrary peanut gallery numbers
Not even our Dear Feeder does that (too often).
FIY, I'll be resetting the server in a bit.
I'll be joining later I think so I hope spawn isn't fucked.

The blog post, with "FAQ"

The best of ideas is to take a game marketed as a (semi-)realistic survival sandbox and to make it... less realistic, less survival, and probably less sandbox. The lore is already truly awful, to add another diversion from the survival-focus formula sounds like a truly baffling decision.
He's also busy non-arguing on the forums and locking threads because they aren't "nice enough", including the blog post itself.

This game is going in a bad direction because of Tyron's lack of actual feedback. He's already developing a game concurrent to this one, now he wants to also audit all changes on another gamemode that nobody asked for by a team people who cannot make a single marketable product by themselves.
Wtf, I completely missed this! This probably explains why they decided to "crack down" on "misbehavior" on the forums, did people think this as was retarded as I think it is?

Yep, this was why, he can't handle people not sucking his dick. It's so over, for the forums at least.
>"Tyron can't take criticism"
>"Is this true Tyron?"
>Bans criticism because it's too mean
Kek.

The server is on.
I used the Rivers fork and it seems to be working.

There's a random fucking oil well near spawn, since I forgot to turn off Vintage Engineering; it didn't go away after I turned it off, so I guess it's there now.

There's a fork of rivers? Nice, hope it's slightly better coded. Glad you didn't stick to Vintage Engineering, not a huge fan of that mod but I'm probably in the minority. Is it still called "The Cave?" And what mods did you end up using?

The rivers mod has no flowing water, which is a big shame.

I wish the Engineering mod was closer to the game's theme, I do recall a bit of a mod showcase, where he said he's looking for people more capable in that department.

Think I called the server "Sneed's Valleys"

There's a good amount of mods, from the top of my head though: Posts n' Beams, Rivers, TerraPrety, CoB Trader Camps, Combat Overhaul, Gilded tools, Drifter redesign, Working classes, Alchemy, From Golden Combs, FOTSA: canines and birds, Ziggy's Crop tweaks, Player Corpse, Farmland drops soil, Culinary Artillery & Expanded Foods, Armory, Better Ruins, Butchering, Wearable Light, Better Firepit, Chisel Tools, Food Shelves, Knapster, Hardcore Water Transport, Carry On, Millwright, Stone Bake Oven, xskills, Wildcraft (this fucking thing is constantly missing assets), Translocator Engineering, Rebalanced Fuel, Player List, Player Corpse, Fire wood rework, Config Lib, 1-2 more, I think, and just dependencies.

Fun game today, got a bunch of copper, made a hole in the ground with a moat, crops died, drifters died, everything died, except me surprisingly. Tomorrow I should be able get to the copper age properly.

@"Controlled Demolition" Why do you post all of your images as gifs?
Because fuck webp, I can't even post real pictures, so gifs it is.

Quite concerning is Tyron's change in attitude towards the roadmap as a result of the 'Adventure Mode' reveal. Now, instead of "We do not make any promises when or how many of these features will be implemented," it's now "[we make] no promises". So, effectively, the roadmap is officially confirmed to be only internal fanfiction. The curse of Early Access strikes again.

Personally, I've already shied away from recommending the game to anyone because I know how Tyron operates, but now I have good reason to recommend against when it comes to a "hardcore" survival game. Even now, as the game currently is, the endgame is chiseling an entire village, but now I can't be certain if that will ever change. And I don't think it will change. Even right now, Vintage Story is already a "mod it to enjoy it" game despite the grace of mods being ported to the vanilla game (badly). One example would be the mod Medieval expansion: Tyron's team implemented only some of the added gates (the 1x3, 2x2, 2x4 gates), meaning you still have to use the mod anyway if you want all the functionality, which includes something as trivial as a 3 block wide gate. And he didn't even use the mod itself, the team had to do additional work making their own inferior version. The recently added sailing ships are another example: worse in every way compared to the modded version which has functional sailing and sitting spaces which don't arbitrarily tire the player out, which now has to work with the new vanilla ships.

I wish the forge was reworked.

People want new ores, but the forge mechanics are weird.
It can only be used to heat up items and nothing else, which I think feels kind of limiting.
The heating itself is silly. AFAIK, all metals become smithable at 700 C°, with a max of 1100. Afterwards the metal doesn't melt or anything.
There's no difference between adding coke or brown coal to the forge.
The temperature thing is silly, because a lot of metals should be melting by 700; when melting them in a crucible, they use the more appropriate temps.

No mods address this in any real way (apart from more quenching options and bellows and shieet)
It might be a nitpick, but it's hard to ignore in a game about trying to be immersive and somewhat realistic. Especially considering stuff like TFC got it right.

Also, shall we make another village? I made ores rarer to incentivize communism or something.
