Is anyone else getting tired of Vinny using rewind in classic games? You could argue that old games are hard and sometimes unfair but if modern games had a rewind function I guarantee he'd use it.
Is he playing them seriously? Or just for corruptions and shit?

If you're going to rewind when you're playing a game for real, you might as well just watch it on YouTube and make a ResetEra account.

Tbh if the alternative is him endlessly having to backtrack to get the eggplant curse removed I'd rather just see him rewind cause the backtracking would get tedious after a while.

He was playing them to show off games that he loves onscreen without spending 8 hours on NES Difficulty(TM) or quitting and not being able to show chat the whole thing.

And there's nothing wrong wit that

There's showing off a game you love and then there's rewinding every time you make a tiny mistake. What's the point of playing a game if there's no consequences because you can just rewind through every bad encounter or mistimed jump? I guess Vinny just doesn't have any patience anymore. Every time he has to replay a section in a video game because he died or messed up he complains.

His streams are generally packed full of content he needs to get through, so yeah, every death or game over is just another time sink. It makes more sense to use rewinds in a showcase (whether it's showing off corruptions or the game itself) so that he can get through as much of his lined up content as possible. Sure, I'd love to see him sit and play some old games properly, but that would have to be a designated stream instead of one of many games to get through; Vinny isn't exactly a video game master, so a lot of time would be lost to his frequent deaths.

I urge you to rewatch some of his Mario playthroughs and see how many times he dies during those. Now imagine that during a stream where he's on game 1 out of the 15 he plans on showing, and it should be abundantly clear why he's using rewinds.

I have nothing against rewinds during corruptions or if he's doing a game collection or something. It only bothers me when he's doing a full playthrough of a game. Even on his recent FF6 stream I remember him rewinding a few times and that game is baby-tier difficulty.

God forbid he just plays a game the way he finds most fun. I genuinely couldn't imagine caring how someone else plays a game for fun so long as its not in some kind of competitive context and they don't get cocky for beating an otherwise hard game that way. Streaming can be miserable enough, I don't see any reason to add the misery of replaying the same level over and over again to that, especially if hes just trying to show off some games. Its not fun for him and its not particularly fun to watch either, especially when hes annoyed.

People are unironically annoyed at Vinny using the rewind feature at most 3 times during a stream... lmfao. Let me know when you guys get your Reddit Premium subscription activated. If he was using it every other mistake in a game like Super Mario World, then yeah that would be a bit of an overkill. Using the rewind feature maybe twice, if not thrice in the span of two and a half hours... really isn't bad. Not to mention he's streaming to 7k people a night that rather would have him rewind than go over the same mistakes for 10 mins before he finally gets the idea because lets be real: that's exactly what would be happening if he wasn't rewinding for .02 seconds.

Without rewinds, Vinny would make no progress. Not always his fault, old Nintendo games are tough as fuck. You really want 500 streams of Kid Icarus with devolving commentary because Vin is genuinely unhappy and bored?

He said it himself, back then we had months if not years to burn headbutting a single game until next birthday/christmas, but Vin is running a 4 hour daily variety show that has usually 2 hours max per game a week, he would be streaming Kid Icarus from here until 2030 and taking time away from other retro games or new releases

Kid Icarus and Ice Climber are probably the weakest of Nintendo's classic franchises tbh
Kid Icarus has a FEEL though, and I can't quite put my finger on it, it's like a nice halfway between the simple early nes arcade-like vibe and transitioning over to adventure platforming. The enemies have neat sprites too.

I mean, Metroid has a "feel" too. It's incredibly oppressive and moody for an NES game, and the tilesets are really unique. Hell, it invented going left. It's still shit despite birthing my favorite franchise.

Kid Icarus and Ice Climbers only exist in the public consciousness today because of Soccer Guy's weird attachment to shit games.

Someone from a different thread sortakinda made my Defense Of Chat for me:

I remember making sure I was home specifically to watch the airing of the season finale of Star Trek: Voyager. I cried at the end. I was like 10, but still. I don't think that would have happened without the factor that you describe. There was something special about it, knowing that millions of people across the country were watching my favorite show end along with me. It wouldn't have been the same just watching the end of the series on Netflix, no matter how much I loved it. It was about being there for it. It wasn't just some content that you could pull up whenever you wanted. It was an event that you were either there for or not.

Vaguely related: Feeling of "connectedness" from listening to broadcast radio vs. MP3s
Exactly how I feel, I miss listening to Mark & Brian in the car or Howard Stern on my grandma's transistor radio, not just for the fun of the live show, but knowing all those people were with me, and imagining their individual listening spots, even walking down the street with an amfm cassette deck and those awful metal and neon foam earphones.

Using rewinds is gay, especially when you're trying to enjoy a game as it is at your own time, but Vinny is trying to be entertaining and keep the stream moving on along his pseudo-schedule. We've all seen those streams where the streamer gets pissy or bored over a game, or even worse, they wander around aimlessly, and it's not fun to watch.
If that's how he wants to do his stream then fine. Skip it if you don't like it. I only watch like 40% of any of Vin's streams myself because the rest bore me. I can't stand to hear any more Spelunky 2 music at this point.
