Red Vox just surprise dropped an EP of more loose-ends written at various times. They're not as good as their full-album songs, but it's mostly because they're not cooked as long (if I'm assuming things.)

And chatyot already needs to shut the fuck up

(this is also the worst song on the ep, which is why I was lurking the comment section, but honestly this one shouldn't have been released)

Ok, hear me out on this but: Stay in Bed had the same tempo as The Cleveland Show theme song. If anyone with talent could overlap the songs or put Vinny’s vocals over that song/vice versa, that would be great. I cant be the only one that hears this.

Man, I really tried to like Red Vox's music, but I just think it's straight up bad. The more I hear it, the more I really despise it. I'm not even trying to dunk on them, they clearly do it out of love and passion and that's great, but the only term I can think of for it is "juvenile," like it's stuck in the skillset and mindset of a 17 year old.

Not even kidding, I genuinely hear it. The progression is very similar. I can't overlay them, but I threw them in Viewsync here, so you can at least hear them back to back.

I don't hear it- I figured out what this song reminded me of though. Just vibe-wise I guess.

Honestly, I feel like Vinny’s lyrics have gotten kind of stale after Another Light came out. I do enjoy Realign a lot and genuinely like listening to Red Vox, but then we get lyrics like, “There's a bit of us all in the breakdown /You want a piece of the world with your ice cream,” that are meant to be taken seriously but... it sounds super off-putting to me. Blood Bagel had better lyrics than some of the new stuff he’s put out, and I haven’t listened to BB in roughly three years.

In regards to this new EP, Patiently Undone and Stay In Bed sound best to me at the moment. Rather Be Lonely sounds like someones’ dad trying to make a generic Depeche Mode inspired song— which I know Vin’s mentioned he’s getting into their music recently. Flat On Your Face.... I can appreciate him wanting to try different styles with his vocals, but damn did this not sound good to me at all. Maybe I’ll have to let those songs in particular grow onto me a bit, but that might prove to be difficult.

I too have tried to get into Red Vox and it's really taking some time for me, which is surprising because his kind of music is like a lot of what I listen to. I listen to Ozymandias a lot though, I can get into that one.

Glad Vinny managed to get past the initial confusing depth of World of Horror to find some enjoyment in it. Seems like he wants to play more in the future too.

"You want a piece of the world with your ice cream"? Isn't Vinny the type who harps on about song lyrics needing to mean something? If that's his definition of "mean something", then I'll just stick to Crush 40 singing about friendship and dreams and opening your heart, thank you very much. At least the lyrics there make sense and tell a story. That lyric is like asking "do you want society on your pancake".

I decided to finally give red vox a listen. They have a "red vox for starters" playlist on spotify and I've been really enjoying it.
Super chill but still toe tapping and a few are definitely going into my regularly played songs.
I thought it would be too weird hearing Vinnys voice and put off listening to them but I got over that pretty quickly. Every once in a while I still get a flash of our lovable pizza pasta though

I actually enjoyed Vinny's music up until Realign.
Don't know why, but it doesn't seem quite like the older stuff. I even liked room to breathe & no cigar.

I've mostly enjoyed Realign so far. Pale Blue Dot and Better on the Outside are pretty good tracks and I'd put the album about on par with Another Light at this point. Also Stay in Bed and Rather Be Lonely are on Side D on the vinyl release, which I got last week. Those are my favorites off Lost for a While so far, especially Stay in Bed. Sounds like the couple of Jonathon Coulton songs I like.

I'm also glad I had a chance to listen to it before they launched the vinyl release because that's why i skipped on Kerosene on vinyl. Just hadn't listened to it myself yet. Constantly impressed by Second City Prints' quality. Realign has some great inside art and even had a postcard of the cover that I threw in a frame on my bookshelf.

As for ancient Vinny Music, he actually did a pretty good cover of Wave of Mutilation by the Pixies back on Odds and Ends (of Scoot the Burbs fame). It's got some home recording crust, but is a well played cover.

I like Vinny well enough (obviously, I wouldn't be here if I didn't) but I can't get into his music. I wouldn't say it's bad and I'm glad he likes making music but I've tried and it's not for me.
Same except I haven't actually listened to it to begin with (Well, unless it's during a brb or something and I forgot he played some) cause I'm just not really a music listening person. I'm fine with sticking to the vidyah games.

Joel having an existential crisis over his lip smacking noises and recording his neighbor's party on stream just now is hilarious. :story:
