Joel most definitely lies about certain things about his personal life (which is understandable) but as far as the inconsistencies with his college and high school years, I'm pretty sure he's just misremembering how long ago it was. I've noticed before that when Joel talks about older streams or something like that, he'll be wrong when he says how long ago it was. Like one time, Joel was talking about the granddad meme and how it happened 7 years ago when at the time of the stream it was about 5 years ago, not 7.

I just think it's a combination of Swedish school system being a little different to the US one and Joel's memory and/or mental math skills being a little off.

I again have to bring up the Drunk Dark Souls example (mostly because it's my biggest piece of evidence :story:) - around 0:40, he specifically says that he has work the next day, not school, and a quick Google search shows that the date of that stream was a Monday. If he had been in school at the time, there's a pretty high chance he would've had class the next day, but makes no mention of it.

The differences in the Swedish educational system are definitely important to note, though. I do think that could be it, that he was in school and just didn't have class that day, but based on the info about his other jobs that he had before streaming full-time, I do believe it's more likely that he's just lying. Either way, what an interesting tapestry he's weaving!

(I'm also very much plugging that video, by the way - easily one of my top 5 favorite Joel highlights. You should watch the full thing.)

Really fantastic "angriest man alive" stream from Joel right now, chat basically huddled in a corner and throwing him scraps of meat while he beats his skull in with a microphone.

I'm the last guy to be telling a man how to run his stream but...Joel. Dude. Maybe just have your mods help you out on a private stream for this stuff.

I sort of get the purpose of having chat weigh in, as it both fills his need to stream semi-regularly while also allowing him to vet his streaming quality from a much wider audience, but yeah, it stops being fun once he starts getting frustrated. And these days, it seems like Frustrated Joel is the only one that still exists.

No, this shit is hilariously pointless. Still, he's fixed his pc faster than Vinny.

I'm definitely getting a kick out of watching him suffer. I'm two hours into the first stream and I think he's about to actually kill someone live on stream. Can't wait!

Can u at least screen capture it dude? Newfags need to stop pasting links and calling it good.

Yeesh. Speaking of drunks, just saw this mouthful from Darren/Potato on Twitter just now.

It's definitely not the first time Darren has been openly political to where he sounds desperate and hopeless about whatever it is he talks about, but it's still weird to see. Personal beliefs about the topic aside, being defeatist about it won't help anybody at the end of the day. Whether he's drunk or sober, he's not really helping himself with his tweets right now.

Also this might have been discussed previously in the thread, but I find it odd that he's still attached to the Vinesauce name despite have little to no interaction with the streamers or charity events anymore. His twitter doesn't mention Vinesauce in it, but he still has a link to the team info on Twitch and tags his tweets with #vinesauce when he streams. Maybe he just likes being low-key and distant from the craziness that's came with the community over the past 10 years, but I hope he comes back for the charity stream this year because some of his stuff used to be super cozy. His Real Lives streams were honestly his magnum opus moments imo.

Like Fred and Dire, I fell off from paying attention to Darren's streams over time. Heck, I often forget I follow the guy because of how little he pulls in for viewers these days and how little interest I have in the stuff he streams.

Still, I never knew he was such a sad sack about the world. Seeing that today made me groan audibly. At least the others from the community tend to keep that stuff to themselves.

Yeah... his streams are just kinda there in comparison to the other streamers. I know I mentioned this in the thread about 20 pages ago, but his Reign of Kings stream with Vinny was probably the last stream I watched with him in it of recent memory that I actually enjoyed.

The only other streamers that I've seen been openly forward about their political beliefs on a somewhat frequent basis are Rev, Hootey and Jen, but even then those weren't obnoxious. I remember Rev being known as the SJW streamer for a few years because of how open he was about his thoughts online, but I think that's died down a bit. As far as being political live on stream, I know Joel has had a fair share of rants here and there about the government in Sweden IIRC, and Vinny doesn't really speak about that stuff directly, but he definitely has used his BRB music to convey his feelings during certain political moments in the US. Overall, I'm glad Vinesauce hasn't caved in entirely to discussing politics on the stream when the opportunity arises. It's a video game stream after all, and I don't think most gamers want to hear that kind of discussion on a platform that's meant to get away from that stuff.

We actually discussed this earlier in the thread, but yeah, Darren is basically a non-presence when it comes to Vinesauce content. Even the resident sad sack Fred has more of a presence than he does, and the last Fred stream I caught was him playing WOW to an audience of about 5 people.

I wonder about this, too. My best guess is that his viewership is so crap, he needs any kind of boost he can get to give his channel some more attention. Being connected to the Vinesauce name, however marginal that connection is, has got to be helpful for his viewer count, so there's no reason for him to separate completely. On Vinny's end, I doubt he even remembers Darren is there sometimes. It affects him in absolutely no way to leave him on, and unless Darren does something particularly stupid, it'll probably continue being an afterthought. It's a classic "if it ain't broke don't fix it" type situation for the both of them.

Honestly the only thing I remember about Darren is that people confused him with Joel back in the day when both of them had long hair and a pubestache.

I was gonna say Vinny probably keeps him because he did some dev stuff for the Vinesauce website, but then I remembered that was Direboar. It's honestly laughable how hard it is to differentiate between most of the Vinesauce team because they're so forgettable. Really makes it obvious why Joel & Vinny are the successful ones.

What's interesting though is that if you look up both Darren and Fred's tweets under the #vinesauce hashtag on Twitter, Darren somehow still gets more retweets than Fred. It's even weirder that Fred also has 3000+ more followers than he does on Twitch and still doesn't get that much attention. I'll try to peek at Darren's future streams to see what's going on with that.

In the Reign of Kings stream, they actually talked/joked about how little they keep in touch and Vinny said that they hadn't talked in over 6 months or something... and that was back in early 2015. Granted, Vinny isn't one to maintain online friendships very well, but considering that this is someone that shares the "brand name" with him, you'd think at that time they'd be more in contact. Then again, Vinny was starting to get more popular at that time and I think Darren didn't want to get caught up in being super wacky and make loud noises to get attention. I doubt they're gonna stream together anytime soon (or ever), but one can hope.

I think the tier list of popularity goes as follows: Vinny > Joel > Rev > Ima > Limes > Dire > Fred > Darren. The first four listed are pretty comfy to watch from time to time. The latter four are pretty hit or miss, but they've all had some decent stream moments throughout the years. I know Vinny had considered getting rid of the Vinesauce team "umbrella" that the rest of the streamers are under besides him, and it makes sense. It's outdated and they don't really collaborate like they used to in the early 10's.

I don't know if it's just me, but man I'm getting just exhausted with the streams lately. I used to be able to watch Joel for hours on end but now I can barely make it a few hours before getting fed up. I mean the guy has definitely been more on-edge lately, but even the Black Mesa stream I was really enjoying just got fuckin boring. Maybe I'm just used to having them on as background noise and I've been paying more attention to them lately.

Hope I'm not just losing interest like I did with Vin. Got a lot of free time I need to fill with light and sound lol.

You are definitely not alone, my friend. I haven't watched Vinny's stream for two months now or so (other than 1-2 Sunday stream sections) and honestly don't miss it. In terms of Joel's stream, the year started nicely but it's been really boring lately as you already said. He peaks in his moments of insanity, but I feel like he's sometimes faking them now. I was watching his Monster Hunter stream just now and turned it off because when he goes into Jerkingoffamericans mode about his English and how others think he's American the stream just feels like a chore.

It's almost like an addiction, though. Like, when you've watched Joel for a certain amount of years you don't really ever want to acknowledge the stream is shitty because you hope for something funny to happen at any moment now. No vey and mug moment are overused already.

I'd tend to agree. He's been really on-edge lately, and it's pretty easy to tell that his head is somewhere else. It could be any combination of things; maybe he's having real life troubles, or maybe he's frustrated with his fanbase and is sick of catering to them, or maybe he's just getting older and growing tired of streaming in general. His Signal Simulator stream was the last one I remember actually enjoying, and every stream I've caught since has been incredibly boring.

A lot of his jokes definitely feel more forced nowadays too. I don't want to speculate too hard, but something is definitely changing with him, and his streams are suffering for it. It worries me that I might just be losing interest in him, since he is to this day the only streamer I actually watch, but at least I can always rewatch old videos for that sweet nostalgia factor.

I noticed with Joel he has a habit of picking up on streamers he likes and dual-streams with them. It's an odd mentor/friendship/nepotism kind of thing.
