First time Joel streams something other than Balatro (or at least doesn't start a stream with it) in a while and his internet shits itself. It got delayed for the third time now, I think? He deleted the VODs too.
Someone jamming him? Or is he genuinely being fucked with?
Or maybe I think AI might have spooked people. People start seeing the hive around them for the first time.

For me it's always been like this.
Welcome to the party.

Been noticing a lot of people getting weird like this nowadays. Dead internet theory spooks them. To me it's been dead for 15 years, but not as dead as IRL people who are worse.

I am dumbfounded at how bad donkey Kong country is. Even with all the qol improvements it is still a tedious backtracking affair. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have you constantly backtracking to get character items and abilities instead of just putting them somewhere in the actual level is a retard. Like even with the change anywhere system you're still just going back and forth from a building to get an ability

The levels I've seen in Vinny's playthrough feel cramped and sparse simultaneously.

I don't think I'm in the minority when I say we need legislation to ban people from making more PS1-inspired slop, but I'm genuinely curious as to why Joel likes to stream that microwaved fossilized dogshit.

You mean Donkey Kong 64?

A video essayist implanted that idea in your brain.
Back when the game came out we were all amazed at how big it was and how much stuff there was to do and find. We didn't mind visiting the same level multiple times with each Kong because every time you found new places to explore and things to do. There was also the fact that you could exit a level, go back, and it would keep track of all the items you had already collected, which is something Banjo Kazooie did NOT have, and is often overlooked because in the years since that game came out most people have played it with savestates.
The game was just not made for the modern ADHD audience, who will eventually make a mod to take the backtracking out of every game like Metroid or Zelda, so you only have to go through every area once.

i have never watched anything about the game until vinny played it.
Back when the game came out
nostalgia goggles. kids are easily entertained. the mayros are just as fun then as they are now and dont require the "back in my day" conceit.

the difference between those games and dk64 is their areas are actually enjoyable to be in so you dont mind going back. dk64 is just one sparse hallway after another from what i have seen so far. im open to the idea of it getting better.

No such thing, I quickly learned to differentiate between bad and good games, DK64 was definitely not among the bad ones. I said the game was impressive when it came out, and even though that aspect has faded, it's still a good game.

That's because Vin doesn't remember to use the teleportation pads so he ends up needlessly navigating through transitory areas multiple times. The instant swap mod is doing him no favors in this regard since he doesn't spend enough time learning the layout of the levels and the placement of the teleports.

It's a great game when you're a kid and have all the time in the world, but as an adult with a job and limited time to game, it's a waste of time.

That kind of doesn't make sense, if a game is a waste of time it's because you find it boring, regardless of how long it takes.

Anyway, I've been watching more of Vinny's playthrough and he has gotten better at navigating through the levels, he sounds like he's enjoying the game but needs to downplay the enjoyment because he's too mindful of the YouTube commentariat consensus. Like he doesn't want to be cringe or something by liking too much a game that the essayists have told their viewers not to like.

To be fair, just about all games are a waste of time. We all need wastes of time to distract us every once in awhile.
N64 collectathon shitfests were on a whole different level, and the only reason they weren't regarded worse was due to the N64 being the home of the software drought, so there was nothing else for it, and if you were dumb, poor or brainwashed enough to only own an N64 it was all you got.
