It would be so horrible if Joel were to launch VotV, only to be greeted by hardcore furry space alien sex shown to his thousands of viewers who instantly start jacking off and cum at the same time (not including me). I hope it happens though, because it would totally own the maker of the game.

All I can predict is that it would be super awkward. But my guess would that he would look away, pause the game (if the game would even allow him to), and start asking what the fuck is this shit.

Do you guys remember when Krillian added Jojo yaoi to his radio in Sims 4, and Joey reacted similarly?

I feel like that would happen, and he would possibly make up an excuse to take a "long break" from the game.
I didn't expect "disappointed mom" Joel to be a thing but here we are.

After watching Joel's highlight video of VotV, I was quite disappointed that the game leans more towards wacky than atmospheric.

So disappointed in fact that I will now list my idea of an ideal VotV alien experience.

1. The main alien of the game should have been the shadow alien with the slightly visible eyes. Not only is he the most unnerving but it would also flow nicely into the second point

2. Most potential alien encounters should have only been a sleep-deprivation hallucination effect. Occasional minor alien encounters with a rested character would have added nicely to the paranoia

3. The alien should not comedically punt the player around while attacking him. The shadow alien attacking should just immediately make the player pass out until he is rested with maybe a rare dream sequence that shows an alien abduction nightmare.

Joel's highlight video didn't show much atmosphere so I cannot comment on that, but of course an atmospheric game needs to focus on the atmosphere in order to be good.
Regardless, VotV is a free game you can download right now on Itch.io. If the developer wants to make it a wacky shitpost, then that's his decision. I just don't care for it.

Theres a clip out there of him saying the nword but I cant seem to find it as it has been scrubbed thoroughly, iirc he was playing a romhack and said it by accident. If someone can find the original clip that would be sick
I don't know if this is what you're talking about but in a really old stream from 2013, he says it while playing a SMBX level.

Is there anything different from what he showed on Twitch about a month ago? He played it there and commented on it.
Don't even give Joel the idea. That man has a legitimate predisposition to gambling, and tempting him to sit down in front of a real slot machine will likely have consequences.

Seriously, he sounds indistinguishable from BMJ in this clip:

lol the horse betting is like the first thing you do in GTA:SA. Save the game, drive up to the betting spot, bet everything on the lowest chance horse, and if you lose, reload and try again until you make bank. 99999999$ before you even start doing missions.

He really does sound like Austin in that clip though. If he had a facecam I'd expect him to do the little ritual dance too. :story:

I've ranted about that before, the dev completely missed the point of Signal Simulator and instead made something that was kinda like SS to get Joel to play, just so he can 1) actively change shit up to deliberately fuck with Joel which is much like what Null says about cow tipping and 2) forcing his fetishes and furfag retardation onto Joel and his viewers. It started off as a Signal Simulator clone and then he lost the plot completely.

He's a faggot and I fucking hope he gets cancelled and will be forced to get a regular 9-5 job in Chelyabinsk or Alma-Ata or whichever CIS shithole he resides in to get by once all the Patreon money dries up.

I heard someone on the basket weaving forums say that Vinny once told his chat to "not be niggers" during Skies of Arcadia. There are some vods missing from Vappy's channel, but I went on the wayback machine, and they were taken down due to copyright, nothing else it seems. Some anon replied saying it might have been clipped out of the vod during the "Yafutoma" part, as there were parts missing apparently. (Haven't played Skies of Arcadia yet, nor watched the vods)

The idea of a hardcore "SETI" type game is such an interesting concept with there being so much room for interesting scenarios and interactions between players, the environment, and the aforementioned aliens. Signal Simulator was crude but executed its concepts very well despite the basic Unity feel of the game. Extreme subtly was the only reason why it worked to scare Joel so much because all he needed was some blurry string of lights in the sky to make him piss himself but the VOTV dev seemingly didn't understand this or forgot about it while adding random shit like it was a Gmod server cramming 500 different addons into a single place with no rhyme or reason. All of the aliens in the game should have been uncaring, unfeeling, incomprehensible grays that only show up in extremely rare encounters. Nothing more and nothing less but no, he had to bring it around to his fetishes and bizarre personal preferences for unrelated things.

It is a damn shame that Blagovest Penev, the dev of the original Signal Simulator, stopped updating because it seems like he understood the entire appeal of "aliens" and why people find them unsettlingly. The less we know about their motives and origins the scarier any encounter with them will be. Once you start adding fan-fiction tier backstories like VOTV did then it just becomes trivial, especially when it again wraps around to something that gets his jollies off. Typing this long rant makes me want to learn game development just so I can show this Russian fool how to make a real "Alien Horror Game" even if it's just a carbon copy of Penev's work but slightly refined and expanded upon.

TL;DR: The Voices of the Void dev does not understand extraterrestrials, horror, consistency, or restraint and should not be making a type of game like this. Such a wasted opportunity. Thank god Joel is funny enough to carry the streams alone because behind all of the useless features is a hollow imitation of an older, better game.

I kind of wonder if the dev thought “well if I make the game more rambunctious there would be more clips of the game”. It did kind of work out in that case.

The other question I had is would Joel still play the game if it was subtle? Joel’s always is a goofy goober and would much rather play a game like Gmod because of it crazy antics and I wonder if that was also factored into some of the decisions of the game. I could see him liking the main page attention from Joel or really enjoying the fact that he’s making a game Joel likes (I’d like to imagine people are good at heart).

Unfortunately the game isn’t really smart or I’d say this is like the Fallout 2 argument (a lot more goofy than the first). If it was smart I’d imagine you could balance the goofy side of Joe’s personality and the more serious scary parts to keep people occupied. The Maxwell cat meme and return Will always be funny to me.

I've encountered this video of some Russian dude talking about why VotV isn't frightening.
From what I could gather, the first half he talks about the general gameplay shit, how it's scary, and after the screamer at 7:35 he laughs at how all of this apparently scary shit is all because of alien catgirls that eat shrimps, comments "I don't understand, is it a horror or an anime romantic comedy?"

He then mentions Kerfuś, how you have a fucking cat robot helper in a horror game, mentions that he's popular in Rule34 and says "don't ask me how I know, we're all without sin". Then he talks about the Omega Kerfuś and how he's a "fucking terminator" that can do everything, and shows off that different Kerfuś models have different breasts sizes, not just colors.

My Russian isn't good enough to properly explain what were his overall opinions, but from what I could understand it's that the game just gets silly with the Arirals and Kerfuś, you fall into a routine, and it just doesn't have that fear element anymore. If there's a native Russian speaker here please feel free to call me a retarded Pshek and correct me.

He says there are Ariral eggs in the game...and you can eat them too for some reason

You fell into a routine in Signal Simulator too, but the paranoia and question of "is there actually something here with me?" keeps it from feeling too dull or rote. It's also helped that the routine was more simple. I've been fucking around with the latest beta of VotV and despite how many "threats" there are, only maybe three of them are actually deadly to the player, which really hamstrings the fear aspect. Certain wisps can outright kill you or just crash your game, but the arirals and the bladed whatever its called can't actually kill or harm you in any way, and about the only consistent way I found to die was getting fucked by the physics based damage system.

Meanwhile, the "routine" of the game in the early days of starting out is just god-awful busywork. Your servers and transformers are constantly going down without upgrades, satellites are scattered all over the place in varying elevations which makes traveling to them an absolute pain, and the fucking trash everywhere. Am I playing a janny sim or a SETI sim? It almost feels like kerfus was made in order to mask some of these issues. Even ignoring all the obvious fetish shit the actual game part of this game just feels completely undercooked and not thought out at all. It also suffers heavily from the creator being a faggot about how people play his game. People kept eating MREs and only MREs because they filled your hunger so much? He nerfed them. Then people switched over to shrimp because it was so cost effective versus everything else, so he added food tolerance. He didn't like people leaving food around everywhere so he added spoilage and cockroaches that'll eat everything left out. He didn't like that people were dragging a bed into the main room to maximize their time, so he nailed the bed to the floor of the bedroom. The list goes on.

TLDR: it's still fun to watch Joel play it because it's Joel, but actually playing the thing is a nightmare, and I hope the "hype" around this game dies so he and others stop playing it so much.

I was always under the impression that Joel liked playing Signal Simulator because it had no expressly wacky bullshit in it since he wanted a game that would give him the "Alien Experience". You remember how he got a little irked when he saw the "Raid Area 51" mode in the options menu even if it was something separate from the main game. He can handle providing the funny for the audience on his own which he did by using tools like the radio or MP4 player, things that were probably added for serious purposes but could be used for shitposting. VOTV adds the "Poop Launcher 9000" which is funny for a while but has no other purpose beyond being "quirky" or "ROFL". It had little connection to the game as a whole making its own "Alien Experience" feel like a cheap gimmick rather than something to be valued or sought after. Sometimes he'll add a feature that is kinda cool but that's more due to the fact he's throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks.
