Is it that Arzette game? I thought it was interesting to see someone try to ape the style accurately, and I think it's from the same guy who did the old CD-i remasters or whatever, but I feel like deliberately going for that type of game misses the point of what made the originals compelling(ly bad.) It's like deliberately making a sequel to The Room. It's just not the same.
 
Watched the Steam trailer and holy crinjo. A The Room sequel is the perfect analogy, and not even Tommy Wiseau was stupid enough to try that.

(Additionally, as someone who's beat both of the "popular" CDI Zeldas they have nothing going for them aside from the charm of the characters. They're abysmal gameplay-wise. Great music and backgrounds though.)

Yeah. I hope that's not Arzette. That actually looked like a fun idea and the developer wasn't a troon so I didn't suspect the inevitable even if it was an extremely nerdy project.
Shame. I always wanted to play a *good* CDI game after all the YTPs I gobbled down as a (mah) boy.
Also the main character kinda gives me Shantae vibes. I'm imagining a mix of CDI and Shantae and there's another game my young self would go ballistic over.

That Arzette game looks like one of those copyright-free fake games people play in the movies when pretending to play videogames and there's a shot showing footage.

Arzette seems okay-ish, although a lot of the cutscene animations look really inconsistent, and not in the way the original cd-i games were. Animation Magic's stuff were odd but bizarrely fluid, whereas Arzette's just look kind of stiff and it's really obvious when they weren't animated by the more seasoned web animators on the project.

Also, while the developer (Dopply/Seth Fulkerson) isn't a troon, he is certainly a lover of those creatures, and he is a long-time cringecow who thinks of himself as a "youtube poop elder statesman," along with a psycho hatred of anyone who is even vaguely center-of-right (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here for several samples). Doesn't help that Limited Run Games bankrolled the whole Arzette project and also published it. Obviously, this isn't meant to discourage anyone from trying out the game, just be aware that the people behind it aren't nice folks at all.
 
i think my biggest gripe is besides the fact that arzette looks like a horrible lovechild of shantae and a gerudo, her face (which is inarguably deviantart fetish art style) doesn't mesh well when they try to give her the ugly wrinkle faces. they just aren't compatible in the same way that the OG style was.

You guys weren't kidding. There's several instances of sexual/homoerotic undertones that're just unnecessary for a CD-I Zelda tribute imo, despite them being played for laughs. I can't help but feel like those moments were tailor made for :prideheart: spam during streams. There's also a lot of anthros and OCs that are Kickstarter backer-tier, one of which looks like if Juniper Lee was a dragon. You could argue that the CD-I Zeldas have anthros too (3), but not a whopping 9.

16:40 - 17:03 - Ice Queen (who looks like a Tumblr Blackwashed cahracter) flirting with Arzette
This one didn't seem too bad at first, as it comes off as Arzette just being a bashful kid, but at 22:14, the Ice Queen blushes after handing Arzette her pendant.

23:11 - 23:25 - Maki asks Arzette out on a date
24:38 - Gooner needs something to keep track of time and to "entertain himself"
29:00 - 29:18 - Vampire gives Arzette a pin-up calendar
30:30 - Gooner gets the calendar (I don't mind this joke too much. The set-up's good and the VA for the Gooner is hilarious, but it's a little on the nose with the gayness. Also funny what Turkey Beef mentioned about the dev supporting troons when one of the Orcs on the calendar, that's clearly male, is wearing a bikini and lipstick like a stereotyped man in drag and it's being played for laughs. lol)

Vinny did a decent job at voicing the frog, at least. Even if it still sounds like him, I'd say it's one of the better voices for this game.

 
I just can't unsee these things anymore. As much as I'd love to just enjoy a CDI throwback title there's too much on the nose stuff here. In the first 15 minutes you solve the wolf furry's problem by threatening the mayor with violence, which seems about right for the flag cult's idea of justice. Then she seems to be a cunt to human men and nice to women and furries. The link stand-in is a worthless sack while Arzette is a brown badass action girl surrounded by idiots. She's wearing magenta too, as if to plant an even bigger flag on it all.

As much as there's a good effort here to capture that CDI feeling, and the soundtrack is good, at the same time it seems like a tranny game through and through. On another point though, the cutscenes are too drawn out. CDI cutscenes were very curt. This led to a rapid fast pacing where the scene was over before you could really process it all. That's where a lot of the humor happens.

Yeah, it all just feels so jumbled. If they had left out the progressive pandering and just stuck to being a funny tribute game then it wouldn't need all this flack. Also the story tries to take itself way too seriously at a couple of points where the shift in tone is odd. Like after Arzette kills Daimur, since everyone helped her out she enacts that the kingdom doesn't belong to her, but "belongs to everyone", implying Socialism(??). When was that theme at play regarding the whole plot? Was it just for the wolf? Before that even, Vinny chuckled during the scene of the king dying and questioned if he should be laughing at that or not.

How was the B3313 multiplayer stream? I wanted to watch Simp play more of it, but him doing multi with a bunch of other guys (that aren't his usuals like Markass or Foxen) makes me apprehensive.
