I don't know why people still call them video essays when 80% of them are just more drawn-out Let's Plays

Barely elaborate beyond your own basic experience

Some better ones instead focus on the actual fucking game above their experiences (KingK comes to mind), but the vast majority of shitty essays are like this and it's almost an insult to call them any better than Let's Plays
I guess some of them are slightly better-edited because they need chapter transitions or whatever, but for the most part they're really just Let's Plays in another form :/
 
I find it somewhat upsetting and funny that I skimmed through the corruption stream but listened to the entire 40ish minutes of Joel saying "sex in minecraft" and found it more entertaining.

I was in a head cold-addled daze and woke up to him screaming 'sex in minecraft', I thought someone fucked with my computer while I was asleep.

On Joel's return to Subnautica video on twitch, about 8 minutes into the vid, I got a kick out of him ranting a bit about a chat member 'AceVenoms' saying "all dads are autistic in some way, it's a proven fact"
Joel's response: "The thing with saying something like that, I think that word gets thrown around on the internet a lot, because people don't understand what it means, and its become synonymous with like, you are dumb. I don't like it. I feel like a lot of words lose meaning, especially in this day and age, where the word literally for example, has taken on a complete different definition."

I don't know what's more irritating: His bias of what he does/doesn't want to play/watch that borders on being religiously anal on top of mortality sperging or the fact that he keeps responding to people when asked. He's also selective with what he says "Maybe/No" to with the former being his go-to answer the majority of the time (which, let's be honest, is an easier way for him to say "No" without saying it).

I will say though, about a few months back, he surprisingly humored chat actually discussing with them about watching more anime shows at some point in the late, late future, maybe being interested in Mecha. He's fortunately been exposed to and enjoyed good quality films so far: Akira, Memories and now Nausicaa.
It's only a matter of time until he inevitably gets to Ghost in the Shell '95 and Satoshi Kon's work.

Rich and Jack ran Previously Recorded on a separate channel until about mid-way through 2018, then stopped because they (or at least Rich) weren't finding it fun anymore and didn't want to keep it going. Jack went off to The Escapist and I think did some kind of successor show, but I never bothered watching it.

I already learned about the trick of changing the shorts in the URL to "watch" to turn any YouTube Short into a video (albeit, still a shitty one). Never knew there was a plugin which automates this process. Thx for redpilling me.
 
The Zeld streams have been a lot of fun. I see a tom of people shitting on the game online, but I've really liked it so far. It definitely has flaws, and it wasn't worth 6 years of waiting, but it is good.

I do feel bad for all the Zeld fans who didn't like BotW though. This game isn't for you and I hope you get a real Zeld game eventually.

Not worth $70 tbh. Emulate it like a chad.

I love Zeld but I'm just not that interested in TotK. I'm just going to watch Vinny play it.

Dunno if it helps you specifically, but the Clips channel stopped being funny to me like a week in. I think they're just prioritizing churning out as much content as possible now because at least half of its output isn't funny. Just kinda confusing.
Makes me wish Vinny had a more active version of Joel's Youtube channel as a nice middle ground so that I could just tune into the yearly uploads of actually funny shit ngl

Also, if you wanna watch good compilation Vinny older videos, try bowwoo but he stopped doing the compilation for long time.
