It was probably a combination of the mic and the smoking, but primarily the smoking. If you watch some of Vinny's super old streams from when he was still smoking, his voice was also quite a bit deeper.

The funniest part is that he wasn't there for the majority of it. He went to sleep somewhere around the 3rd watch, then woke up around viewing number 8. No one even knew he was back until the movie out of nowhere cut to Billy Herrington in a fireman costume.

Unless I've heard wrong, I don't believe the mods are giving out tokens on request anymore. Presumably the Vineyard is growing too big for that to be viable (though it's still just a fraction of his normal viewership).
 
While Vinny admits that he's a fucking idiot; that doesn't make it any less frustrating when he takes 15 minutes to figure out how to play a game by actually doing the goddamn tutorial.

At the very least he doesn't pretend he knows what the hell he's talking about. Same applies to practically all of those types like Hanson. Ironically, the originator of them all; AVGN: he's never really had foot in mouth shit like that occur, he's just pointed out what he felt and never claimed or acted like some all knowing expert.

He also has a life beyond making videos/streams about games as his job, so that also explains things. Look at all the funny people who came after him and realize just how few of them actually have kids and to a lesser extent are married.
