If we're gonna go down this road, I think it needs to be stated that 2014-2016 Vinny was peak attractiveness. Vinny's pre-2014 hairstyle (the fucking Tim Buckley cut) and lack of a beard really did not do him any favors, and nowadays I think he just looks tired.

I don't think it's weird - he honestly has the perfect face and voice for grunge. On top of that - and correct me if I'm wrong - but I believe Kurt Cobain is one of his main inspirations, so grunge is probably the best way to describe him anyway. His voice definitely doesn't fit the kind of stuff I've heard him singing, in my opinion; it's a little too rough. I'd definitely prefer hearing more grunge-type stuff from Vinny - having him pull out a Black Hole Sun would be pretty astounding.
If Vinny lowers his body fat percentage and grows his hair out, he'd kinda resemble Cornell in his 40s so why not.
And yes, Cobain used to be his main inspiration but he hasn't talked about him much ever since seeing Montage of Heck. It's like he lost a bit of respect for him after seeing it.

To put it mildly, I know pretty well where the weird attraction his fans have for him is coming from. If you're mildly attractive or even just normal looking, yet have a very depressive affect and rarely smile, you end up around a lot of people who inevitably try to shower you with attention and cheer you up. Usually the most annoying people in existence who think being friendly means ignoring any signs of discomfort you're showing. Which, without getting into too much detail, is extremely uncomfortable at best and actively makes things worse sometimes. Trust me on this one. Its not fun.

Personally I'd rather Vinny be more cynical and surreal like he used to be. It fits his personality much better. Now it seems like he feels he's gotta cater to the annoying Undertale kids and it looks like he hates every minute of it. Don't blame him at all frankly. Joel seems to have resisted this a bit better by hanging on to his interest in metal and violent content, but Vinny often seems to be at a total identity loss sometimes and frankly I've been there myself. Stuff like this makes me glad I was never an entertainer.

Red vox is not a shitty band at all, it's really enjoyable at most though. i wouldn't call it top tier, i think his lyrics are somewhat basic. Also that Transpride stuff is really tiresome at some points at night.

BTW Isn't Vinesauce is Hope starting today or am being retarded?

What trans pride stuff?

Yeah I'm wondering this one myself. I know because of the huge Undertale overlap that Vinesauce has a bunch of trans fans attached to it now. Joel was kind of a dick about it when it was first becoming a thing, but its looking more and more like being repellent to them at that early stage probably helped him out in the long run. I wasn't aware of it becoming more overt on Vinny's side though unless things have started to develop a lot more.

His more recent stuff definitely seems to be way more forced than his older stuff was. There was an authenticity to Vinny pre-Twitch that I think he's had to give up for the sake of his career, which is honestly an understandable sacrifice to make. It was either relinquishing some of who he was for the sake of maintaining his livelihood, or refusing to change as some grandstanding effort against The Man (tm), even if it meant destroying his career in the process. Pretty clear which choice is the right one.

Basically every time something even remotely LGBT-related comes up on stream the chat will be flooded with that cancerous trans pride heart emoji. It'll get so bad that other chat members (no doubt older, more established ones) get pissed off and fights break out.

Two semi-recent incidences of note are the Donkey Kong 64 hack and Mortal Kombat 11 streams. The former because of the stupid "Donkey Kong supports trans rights" meme and the latter because Ronda Rousey (who's apparently a "TERF" aka a feminist who dislikes trans people) voices Sonya.

The DK stream was an absolute disaster in itself because Vinny couldn't get the hack to work the entire time and he even said he wasn't gonna stream it again. But it's obvious the obnoxious chat spam was probably more of a reason why he didn't give it another try. There's no doubt he's just as annoyed but of course can't say anything about it lest the woke mob lynch him.

The MK stream was arguably even worse with every and I do me every frame of Sonya on screen being met with a torrent of that retarded emoji and equally spergy TERF acronym. Let's count our lucky stars that Vinny had the smarts to not stream Jax's ending where he goes back and "ends slavery."

The time might be right for him to put his foot down and just demand that people calm the fuck down about this stuff. Or at least admit he's uncomfortable with it. People are getting really fed up with this stuff, and if someone like Metokur can get his ass saved by a shithead like Keemstar or someone like IDubbbz and his group of weirdos can stay on the internet while talking about gay retard niggerfaggots then I guarentee you a network as big as Vinesauce can just be polite about the fact that they don't want assholes sperging about trans pride in their chat. Even smallers channels like SsethTzeenach and Internet Historian get away with some edgy jokes here and there. Vinesauce has never been what I'd consider "edgy" humor on the scale of some of the more popular channels and I think Vinny would have a chance if he stood up to them now, with Joel and probably Rev backing him up. Vinesauce still has lots of fans but if they wait until their fanbase is totally assimilated by kids they're gonna lose everything.

a network as big as Vinesauce

I don't know if this is just me, but I wouldn't consider Vinesauce a particularly "big" network. Most people won't know who they are by name, although a good amount may have seen a video with them in it and just didn't know it, and because they are streamers primarily and Youtubers second (or third to their music, in all honesty), their audience is not as broad as one might think, even in spite of how long they've been around. I agree that Vinny in particular has the main ability to shift the tide, being the founding member and the most popular one, but I don't think his reputation proceeds him enough for him to really go against the grain like that. It's a gamble, and not one I'm sure he's willing to take.

It's a gamble, and not one I'm sure he's willing to take.

This is the crux of the problem I think both of them have in front of them right now. Joel is clearly becoming disengaged from the whole thing and I imagine him jumping ship the moment he manages to make it as a musician or join a more alternative platform. Hell, I could potentially see him just going solo and running his own streaming channel that leans a little more conservative and just enjoying the ability to say what he wants without the Vinesauce brand attached. I think if Vinny acts sooner rather than later, Joel will back him up. But if Vinny waits, Joel is going to split off from him either for greener pastures or out of a desire to have a little more agency.

This comes back around to Vinny though. He seems really unwilling to own the image of being a dude who stays in all day and plays videogames for a living. He's also a depressive for sure, but with no outlet for that, he's fucked. His indescisiveness isn't really something I blame him for, but I find it completely impossible that he'll adapt to the infestation of happy-sparkly-rainbows-out-the-ass Tumblrite culture current encroaching on his channels. When you are depressed, like, really depressed, that stuff only makes you feel increasingly dead on the inside. It seems like its weighing on him to an extent. I don't think anyone wants to be the Nintendo Kid forever. I know Vinny plays more than just cutesy Nintendo games, but he really seems to be drawn back to them regularly since that's what the audience wants. Its possible its already too late and his fanbase is just too childish to support him if he tries to put his foot down. But if he waits a couple more years, I'm pretty sure he's gonna be stuck.

People are getting really fed up with this stuff, and if someone like Metokur can get his ass saved by a shithead like Keemstar or someone like IDubbbz and his group of weirdos can stay on the internet while talking about gay exceptional individual niggerfaggots then I guarentee you a network as big as Vinesauce can just be polite about the fact that they don't want assholes sperging about trans pride in their chat. Trouble is as you pointed out even IF one day he snaps let alone puts his foot down is when he can say goodbye to a good chunk of his income and fame, they will dig up things from his past and take it out of context and believe rumors as truth, like there was a rumor on 4chan that Vinny solicited nudes from an underaged fan, which was bullshit but from that stem all it takes is an "I regretted it and I LOOKED underage in my nudes:( " cunt to #MeToo him and also even end his side career as a musician.

I feel the only way he vents his frustrations without anyone of his #WOKE fans finding out is when he's in the studio venting through his music or writing songs, and when he's hanging out with his friends. Cause judging by his looks at conventions he likely vents when he's in his room or when he drives back home.

Joel is clearly becoming disengaged from the whole thing and I imagine him jumping ship

If my Vinesauce timeline is right, he did briefly jump ship around 2014-2015. I could be full of shit - although I've been watching them both since 2011, I stopped from around 2014-2016, so I'm fuzzy on that era - and I don't know why or for how long, but it's interesting to note. Joel is an interesting case in the Vinesauce saga because he was the only one who actually managed to really make a name for himself outside of Vinny. For non-fans who know about Vinesauce, it's always been Vinny, Joel... and the rest! (Sometimes Rev crops up by name, but very rarely.)

It's worth noting that, at this point, the Vinesauce name is just that - a name. Since Twitch became big and made vinesaucevidya obsolete, there has been little community bonding them together, and even less tying the streamers themselves together (they no longer host on the same website; although vinesauce.com still exists, it just links to Twitch). So the only difficult part of removing himself from Vinesauce would be fans' association (he will always be Swedish Vinny, or Joel Vinesauce to a lot of people).

He seems really unwilling to own the image of being a dude who stays in all day and plays videogames for a living.

It's a safe and marketable image. Hard to see the flaw in his logic.

When you are depressed, like, really depressed, that stuff only makes you feel increasingly dead on the inside.

As I and a few others have mentioned, Vinny has been depressed for a long time, at LEAST since 2011. That much is obvious. But it's definitely been getting worse as the years go on, and it's hard not to speculate that his streaming career has a lot to do with it. Streaming is stressful, after all, and Vinny's a private guy - becoming this popular must be a nightmare for him. I'm sure that, even in spite of the money, part of him really misses the Chatango days, as do many of us.

I think he's past that point by now. Vinny's fanbase shifted from primarily old /v/ users to younger Nintendo kids probably around 2016, when he started to become more mainstream. He definitely hates it, and has made it clear that he doesn't think children should be watching his streams, but that doesn't change the facts. If I had to put numbers to it, I'd say the majority of his audience falls within the 15 to 20 range - and for a guy who was already streaming when some of his fans weren't even in school yet, that's a hard thing to reconcile.

The way I see it, he had to choose one way or the other - stick to his old formula and risk alienating the teenagers that made up his new primary audience, or give into their interests in order to keep the cash flow coming. Once again, it's really hard to blame him for choosing the latter. After all, it's not like Old Vinny was particularly "against the grain" - he played the same popular/esoteric games that everyone else did for the sake of the views, and his humor wasn't that much different, just a lot more offensive. So he didn't really lose much.

there was a rumor on 4chan that Vinny solicited nudes from an underaged fan

(I know I'm doubleposting, but I don't care. I have no shame.) Honestly, even if it was true, I wouldn't be surprised. I heard a rumor that Fred briefly got kicked from Vinesauce/reprimanded/something I don't fucking know, because he was accused of soliciting nudes from teenage girls, but I can't even speak to its veracity because all the info about it got scrubbed from any legitimate sources. So if anyone could cover that shit up, it's Vinny.

Is there some Vinesauce Mod lurking in this thread? My Twitch account got banned on Joel's/Vinny's channel. :story:

Edit: Yes there is, I got banned by Leon (the dragon furry dude). :story:

Lmfao You got fucking sniped. Any idea as to the real reason though? Joel's mods are pretty cool, I call people retarded all the time and never get in trouble. It helps that they're mostly his real-life friends, unlike Vinny's mods who are random tumblr/discord furries that have clung to him like ticks.

I agree, I may just message Anthro about it. That Leon guy is the most annoying shit around. :story:

That has a pretty fair chance of happening right now. I'm even willing to say about 50/50. The thing is, if he waits any longer, I think the chances will creep up and up until its pretty much a guarentee that he'll lose the majority of his audience altogether. Additionally, the more and more unstable Tumblrites exist in his fandom, the more likely it is that people will dogpile him with fake threats. #MeToo has a bit of a half-life. If not enough people accuse someone, or there's not quite enough evidence, then people will just bitch and moan about it and it'll die down after awhile. But if people smell blood in the water and sense they can turn en masse, that's when you're in deep shit.

The days of a random hit piece based on a random #MeToo accusation ruining someone's career are kind of past unless you work in a really kid friendly industry or something. You'll get some heat for sure, but people are just sick of it. There needs to be more complexity to the scandal now or you need to have made quite a few enemies along the way to back up the allegations.
