blame blizzard, if anything 3.3.5a is one of the most customizable versions of WoW unless you like TBC because cata and beyond fucked over the clients so hard it's a herculean task to make custom content in it.

you don't need your isp's fagginess to handle localhost portforwarding or even p2p clients for friends like hamachi.
just keep in mind the requirements for the emulator but going with java 27 and C++/.NET AIO packages can never go wrong, also SQL Studio and XAMPP.

also avoid downloading chinese server/client files, they always have a trojan in it for some reason, like actual trojan with some random copied client file but with a .dll that is not part of the official client files or even a false positive, i guess you would need to think like a souless bug to understand that so i can't help you with why they do that, russian files are 50/50.
 
I have compiled some readily available to play MMOs, but there's a catch, all of these were non-web mmos that have a web client available to them via third-party usually open source projects. I have not tested these and it's not many.

or the one based on zaicopx's pack which is one of the best but abandoned lich king versions for single/low player amounts.

I remember trying this out via emulation and it runs very well. I got my ass handed to me, but it works.
