Playing through SMT IV: Apocalypse right now and this piece in particular is sticking to me:

Always thought Rise of the Robots had one of the most awesome Game Over themes for it's time.

I nominate the entirety of the Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage games' OST for "Holy shit this music is amazing," but there's one song in particular that will always get me to smile because I never fucking expected it.

So the first time I was playing the first game, I got to around the Southern Cross arc, where Kenshiro fights Shin, and the battle plays out damned close to the manga, but it has one absolutely fantastic addition that caught me completely off-guard. You fight Shin, and he's one of the first legitimately hard fights. About about halfway through, however, Shin enters "no longer fucking around" mode, and then.... This song plays.

If you were a fan of the original 1983 show, this is a fucking holy shit moment. I had been pretty badly getting my ass kicked during this fight, but the second this started playing, you better believe I threw everything at kicking ass to this song. Fucking amazing.

Seems as though a lot of SNES/Genesis games had great soundtracks, but the gameplay for lots of releases was mostly average/mediocre at best. Some examples,

Ah, Decap Attack, the game that is a copy of Psycho Fox, which is a copy of Kid Kool. I've heard of companies reusing assets for their new games, but this is something else.

(I've only played Kid Kool, and to quote the AVGN, it's not fuckin' cool.)
