I'd call this whole story self explanatory really.

In a piss poor attempt at eliminating a medium-sized black market the government introduced strict new foreign currency laws, effectively banning the exchange of local currency for US dollars, Euros or British Sterling.

This has had a disastrous domino effect on the wider economy, with businesses unable to import and export vital goods and services, the economy has been slowly collapsing.

This has now begun to bite hard into the medical sector, with no ability to import much equipment and other necessities such as drugs Venezuela's hospitals are rapidly becoming a disaster zone.

This is in spite of the fact that the government of Maduro continues to spout out increasingly deluded statements and claims that Venezuela has a great healthcare system and isn't increasingly a bankrupted shithole that has run out of toilet paper, oil, and other basic necessities.

Maduro is pretty much pol pot.
Bolivarianism core is self reliance is most areas.
Venezuela wants to build nuclear cruisers and tanks with highly advance composite steel armor to aspirin.
Obviously that don't work especially if you have a blind hatred of America and anything capitalistic.
Will they admit that is their fault the critical supply situation?
Of course not, much easier to blame the opossition and the rich that are "hoarding" food and medicine to create a counter revolution.
The electricity is lacking even in the capital?
Oh yes blame partisan saboteurs and American agents.
Maduro is insane and can invade Guyana at any moment.

Then NATO will bomb the shit out of Venezuela as Guyana is a part of the Commonwealth and therefore, a British protectorate.

Seriously verging into Mercenaries 2 territory here...

If Venezuela invades Guyana, the US/Nato gets very involved as @CWCissey stated. This is much closer to the US than the Middle East, so drone/cruise missile strikes from US naval ships would not take that much as far as resources. That course of action would end the Chavismo dominance quicker and bloodier than any scenario I just outlined.

At the moment I think the Chavismos are simply stubborn, not suicidally stupid.

Brazil did a exercise to see how fast can it transport it's armored forces to the Venezuela's border

Yeah Venezuela is going to be the next political quagmire...
You guys say he would be stupid and insane.
Let me remind you that he thinks Chavez reincarnated as a bird that landed in his shoulder, that fucking Spiderman is corrupting the youth and created peasant militias like the SS to control and frighten the population, also reformed the judiciary and military with his lackeys.

How long until his corpse is hung upside down in the capital

How long until his corpse is hung upside down in the capital

Not nearly soon enough.
He owns the military and judiciary
He is just waiting to the situation to worsen and declare a state of defense and shoot everyone who opposes him.

Venezuelan refugees were only 341 in brazil in 2015.
I think mostly the middle class is fleeing with their dollars to America.
I can't see a mass of refuges because the border is basically either uninhibited flatlands or just plain extremely thick forests occupied by farc in the Colombian border.

Since my family hosted a Venezuelan exchange student, this crisis does scare me. Though she moved to America with her husband, I worry about her family.

Well putting his lackeys in power and having a paramilitary is not stupid for a dictator.

The rest is pure tard stuff though.

My time to shine!

It's morbidly amusing to see that Venezuela in real life is now basically worse off than the Venezuela depicted in Mercenaries 2.

There the oil company was a private company and the guerrillas were the good guys

This is why you don't base your entire economy around oil.

The original plan of chavez was to use the profits of the oil sales to "cultivate it" aka using that profit to create another sources of money, instead he whored PDVSA and created shitloads of mini companies that doesnt do jackshit (PDV Alimentario, PDV Agricola), after his death was discovered that those stupid places are a heaven to launder money

I wish the problem stop't here. Venezuela's dysfunction has metastisized to all aspects of everyday life. Cuba's less fucked than them.

When chavez was alive this was true, it was not weird seeing people fighting in the streets because they were pro government, but sadly "love with hunger doesnt last" when shit hited the fan the chaviztas bleeded support everywhere and the result was the massive disaster of the parliamentary elections where we won by landslide

I figure Venezuela's shitting the bed is why Cuba decided to refriend the US.

Pretty much, there are only a handful of countries who give a damn but are unimportant like trinidad and tobago and bolivia, in the last OEA metting our councilor was practically humiliated in front of the world, when she leaved the building people were insulting her and throwing things to her car

Say what you like about Hugo Chavez, at least he didn't drop a nuke on the economy in a spectacular, suicidal way.

He actually did when he began to expropriate farms and industries by the dozens to "give them to the people" the result was ironically creating a monopoly where one company produced almost ALL the food in the country (Polar Industries), Chavez hated that company but was terrified of touching it, maduro has tried to kill it indirectly (by not giving them any dollars) but it was unsuccessful

Maduro controls the supreme Court, army, and has mobilized a huge peasant paramilitary.

"peasant" paramilitary? ahhh the "reserves" jajaja dont worry about them those fuckers are old people that get a tugboat only to appear in speechs and festivals, they dont have any kind of training or weapons, they are only given a uniform,a tugboat and a "cestaticket" is like american food stamps i think

Even as recently as a few months ago, Venezuela is still purchasing large amounts of weapons from Russia and China. Go worst form of military socialism - Trading butter for guns during a food shortage.

Those thinks never arrived by the way, the army are still using old stuffs, and the newer they never used it because there is no money to buy parts

Also in a funny twist Venezuela right now cannot afford to print its own money.

And maduro refuse to print bills with more denomination to get you a example the most valuable bill is the 100 bs.f one but with that you cant even buy a can of coke

Venezuela was already a shithole in Chavez's last year's.

Yep but in his last days chavez rectified a little and there was food but then maduro was chosen as his substitute and things got awry from there

Chavez is lucky that the CIA assassinated him with that naturally occurring terminal cancer. He died a martyr at the peak of popularity and never had to deal with the mess he left behind

There is a little misconception there, yes he was in the peak of popularity but inside his own base, the chavizmo has been bleeding supporters for years, when food began to dissapear, and the promises of houses, cars and all the things were next to impossible to fulfill then people began to dissent, when maduro was elected he only won by a tiny margin than everyone knows he rigged, from there his popularity when downhill until the inevitable 6D when it was proven that NO ONE WANT HIM

Also according to the government chavez was killed by nanomachines that produce cancer, im not kidding

But Maduro is a fucking exceptional individual, so my bet is on "torn apart by hungry dogs".

He is going to be killed by the mafias he support, is not a secret that the Venezuelan government is the biggest cartel of drugs in this side of the planet to the point that the nephews (raised by her) of the first lady were caught with tons of drugs in haiti and are being judged in New york right now, according to the rumors the DEA has enough info to fuck a lot of people here, they are only waiting for the referendum

The Saudis are the most influential OPEC member, so they can order all the others to reduce production whenever they want to raise the price.

Oh yes, maduro even did a tour to all the countries in the OPEC to beg for a raise in the price, when that did not work he tried to go to china to ask for another loan, then china said no because maduro and chavez wasted two loans in electoral propaganda and bribes

Also Venezuela is in a state of war right now to quell opossition protests.
Massive army exercises are also happening.

We are not at war, the thing that exist is apathy, people stopped caring because the opposition is almost as useless as them, the thing is so bad that the new theme of propaganda of the opposition is to say people that dont lose hope and there are better days to come, people still cant forgive that capriles let maduro win because he doesnt want a "bloodshed", that is the infamous "go dance salsa" incident

Comrade Chávez, in his infinite wisdom, decided it'd be better to stack Caracas's State Oil Company with his buddies as opposed to people who actually knew what the fuck they were doing

He did not stacked with his buddies, he stacked it with people that did not join the national protest when every company and even PDVSA employees did not go to work, because things were going to the shit, Chavez then decided to fire all the people (in PDVSA) that join it and put morons in charge, the result were obvious with the peak of idiocy was reached when the refinery in amuay exploded in such a spectacular faction that the military HQ that was nearby dissapeared and the personal inside died, the refinery was burning for days until chavez finally gave up and ask USA for help

It's official folks, the exceptional individual dictator has now dissolved the mostly opossition parliament.

Prepare socialists like bernie saying it was not socialism that ruined Venezuela or some shit like that.

He doesnt have the balls to do it, he has another things to worry, like the interamerican democratic carter, he is terrified of that thing because he knows what happened to the last idiot that got the carter activated

"Venezuelan police arrest at least 400 people in the city of Cumana after food riots and looting broke out yesterday."

I wonder if the prisons can even feed all those people.

"Should there be a vote in 2017 and Maduro loses, his vice president would take over - rather than a new presidential election being held - meaning the ruling "Chavismo" movement would still be in power."

Well thats sucks.

Some part of me fears that future Venezuelan people will think the regin of Hugo Chavez as some sort of golden age while Maduro was a bringer of ruin, that it can be reborn. I would hope that they see that the pink tide, and Chavez, were failures to begin with.

They are not going to prison, one of the bad things in this place is how horrible the justice system is, they are going to have a slap in the wrist and the thing they stole confiscated (or in a good day you can pay a little to the cops to take the items home)

The electricity is lacking even in the capital?

No, but all the other states have to pay the price so caracas never lack electricity, we have shortages of power from monday to friday for three hours (it was 4 hours everyday)

I was wondering when you were going to reply to this. You live there and would know a lot more about this than the rest of us.

I honestly hope @Cubanodun survives this. :sigh:
Although you guys are fucked, you were kinda of a warning if socialism continues in brazil and Argentina and the opossition either won or impeached the socialist presidents.
You kinda saved us from the same fate.
:P
