I'd call this whole story self explanatory really.

In a piss poor attempt at eliminating a medium-sized black market the government introduced strict new foreign currency laws, effectively banning the exchange of local currency for US dollars, Euros or British Sterling.

This has had a disastrous domino effect on the wider economy, with businesses unable to import and export vital goods and services, the economy has been slowly collapsing.

This has now begun to bite hard into the medical sector, with no ability to import much equipment and other necessities such as drugs Venezuela's hospitals are rapidly becoming a disaster zone.

This is in spite of the fact that the government of Maduro continues to spout out increasingly deluded statements and claims that Venezuela has a great healthcare system and isn't increasingly a bankrupted shithole that has run out of toilet paper, oil, and other basic necessities.

Chavez is lucky that the CIA assassinated him with that naturally occurring terminal cancer. He died a martyr at the peak of popularity and never had to deal with the mess he left behind. I wonder how his Saddam-lookalike successor will die. Machinegunned like Ceaucescu or mangled by a botched hanging like Saddam

I'm thinking he'll end up more like Mussolini, where his native people desecrate his corpse far worse than anyone should ever have to endure.

If Maduro's smart he'll flee and request asylum, probably in Bolivia, before shit goes completely out of control.

But Maduro is a fucking retard, so my bet is on "torn apart by hungry dogs".

I'd prefer being in a colony under an exarch. Yes, I'd be starving, probably being whipped by my slave driving masters, but at the end of the day, 'Exarch' just slips off the tongue in such a satisfying way.

Maduro must not think much of his people's intelligence if he really believes they'll buy his lie about there being an "economic war" waged against the country by the US and bourgeoisie. Stirring up nationalist sentiment in the face of extreme hardship is a classic petty dictator tactic to deflect the people's fears and anger away from the regime.

The fact that he won't allow the recall referendum to proceed against him virtually guarantees either he or his lackey VP be in power until the next election (in 2019 I think?), and proves just how petty and insecure he is.

I don't outright hate socialism, but when you use your country's oil wealth on expensive social programs intended to buy the loyalty of the poor and keep your party in power forever (something similar happened in Thailand before their most recent coup) instead of diversifying your country's economy, what could they have possibly thought was going to happen with the oil price inevitably fell?

It proves how powerful of a tool socialism is for controlling the uneducated and ignorant in society, at least to me.
