Pence has stated that he stands with the people, causing mass speculation of an upcoming coup

Over the past 2 years he's made numerous visits to SA and denounced the current dictatorship

There's also rumors that members of the military who fled to nearby countries are planning "an advance on the border"

Things appear to be popping off in Caracas tonight. Poor Neighborhoods that used to be Chavista strongholds are now protesting, the opposition claims at least one protester has been killed. I’m including a couple of posts from exiled Venezuelan SA goon “chuck Boone” who does a really good job keeping up with the protests. It’s the only thread in Their politics forum worth reading, mostly because even most of the Goon communists have given up on defending Maduro and only Venezuelans and ex Venezuelans really post there. The occasional tankie comes in and threadshits the good posters ignore them.

National Assembly deputy Jose Manuel Olivares says that one protester has been killed in Vargas state (EDIT: Apologies--I'm confused. The death happened in Catia, Caracas. It's also being reported by Roman Camacho, who is usually accurate). If confirmed, this would be the first casualty of what's turning out to be the 2019 protest wave.

There are protests breaking out in Caracas, Playa Grande (in Caracas), San Felix (Bolivar state), and Los Teques. Those are just the places I've seen videos/pictures from.

In San Felix, protesters have burned a statue of Hugo Chavez:

In Catia, another solid Chavista stronghold now home to anti-Maduro protests:

The same guy posted about this on SA earlier tonight.
Last week a group of men in Venezuelan army uniforms released a video from Peru saying that they were rebelling against the Maduro regime. They cited the constitution, and said that they did not recognize Maduro as president or commander in chief, and that they recognized National Assembly president Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela.

Here's the video:

The video was strange because it was recorded in Peru. I think that the people in the video are deserters who simply kept their uniforms when they left Venezuela and ended up in Peru.

I didn't really think much of the video until yesterday, when a second similar video was shared online, this one recorded in Colombia. In this second video, the men in uniform also say that they support Guaido, and that they are teaming up with the Peruvian group and "heading to the border", presumably to launch some kind of guerrilla war against the regime.

This is the video:

I saw a lot of talk on Twitter about what the videos might mean, and if they might be a sign of an escalation. I think that more than anything else, these kinds of videos are meant to persuade army units inside Venezuela to rebel. It's impossible to tell how big this group of rebels might be, but it's probably 20-40 strong. I don't know exactly what these people are hoping to accomplish by heading to the border (and then...? Fighting the Venezuelan army? Liberating towns?), so until we see some concrete action I can't say that I think these videos amount to much.

Venezuela about to transition from "communism" to "wasn't real communism" then? I'm down for that.

If the heavy shit is going down I'm just sad that it's not happening on Chavez's watch. I would really have liked to have seen that bald, cancer-ridden bastard dragged out and hung with piano wire.

Things have been going down last night. Details seem fuzzy, people are reporting internet shutdowns

Balsonaro making pledges to 'restore democracy', brazillian officials are meeting with opposition leaders

Looks like it might actually 'be happening'

They are throttling access to youtube and periscope but people already know how to bypass it, i remain skeptic because this is not the first time that the people moved like this, the only difference is that the old opposition was kicked to irrelevancy and now the key figure is Guaido, supposedly he has to sworn today into the presidency as requested by all the countries in the continent (except bolivia and nicaragua but no one gives a shit about them), i dont believe he is going to do it but it will be a huge kick in the nuts to Maduro that no one recognize him anymore, the stunt with his fake supreme court backfired horribly because no one want to enforce it, the army is just a mess now because now that they are offered a clean way out they really want to get rid of Maduro for good

Edit: Yeah they are now outright blocking but only if you use CANTV DNS, i use the ones from Google so i dont get any block

The BBC is reporting on it as well. It's apparently all kicking off. However they've relegated it to their "World News" page so they can fill the front pages with such important things as R. Kelly's sex trainer and the top 100 LGBT employers.

And here's Maduro's response to it. Basically, he's claiming that they merely have a different type of democracy. Oh, boy.

And yes, the sidebar says ORANGE MAN BAD as expected.

I'm sure the people literally starving to death don't give a shit about anything now and would literally become a banana republic of the US if it ment putting a bullet in Maduro and getting food on the table.

It's always surprising to see blue check Mark's complaining about imperialism yet at the same time dont have the same concerns when kids are stabbing each other for used coffee grounds out of the trash.
