from what i've seen, they're going more with the "it's americas fault!" angle this time, citing US sanctions and CIA conspiracy theories.

Yeah that seems to be the theme with U.S. Socialists in regards to Cuban and Venezuela. They think the only reason those places failed is because of evil Capitialists and the U.S. sabotaging them. That's because a lot of the U.S. Socialists base most of their ideas around those country's policies and to dismiss them as "not real socialism" would be to admit everything they stand for isn't "real" socialism either.

Though they also deflect this by claiming they actually want "European Socialism" when none of their policies even resemble anything European to the least.

Honestly I hope it ends in intervention. A civil war would just leave a giant power vacuum ripe for corruption or terrorism influence. On a more selfish note intervention would mean deployment pay for me. I guess everyone wins when Americans invade you. /sneed

I would not want to be on the receiving end of an American intervention tbqh. It would be less Iraq and more Panama. We would just pound their security apparatus into paste over a 3 week period and then send spec ops in to grab Maduro and all his Henchman. After that we cut a huge check to the National Assembly to pay for the breakage and hire new soldiers.

Venezeula is close enough we wouldn't even need to use a carrier either. Just foreword deploy fighter bombers to puerto rico and run an incessant chain of Air Force strikes.

OH RIGHT! I forgot about that one after it was beaten into the ground after 9/11 and Iraq War 2 : The quest for more oil.

Huh America didn’t force Chavez to nationalize the oil companies? Did America force Chavez’s daughter to flee the country to Spain with $5 billion dollars? Weird how r/Late Stage Capitalism tends to ignore those questions and others.

I would assume the Embassy also has a Marine Corps detachment, and there is almost certainly a warship or two nearby somewhere. Trying to force the Embassy would almost certainly result in a battle, especially if the Navy is ordered to defend the flag pole. Maduro has to know this too, so he may opt for the lesser option of besieging the compound. This would make him look like a cuck though, and the next US move would be to try and fly in supplies.

The US would not endanger a Marine crew or diplomatic team. As soon as Maduro moved forces in they would be evacuated. At which point he would become a legitimate and legal target for Drone Strike.

I think the funniest/laziest thing about Reddit is how everyone cries "brigade!" when a vote doesn't go their way. "Oh no, we said something really stupid and lots of people besides us regulars think it was really stupid, halp, we're being brigaded!"

But would a decapitation attack via Hellfire missile really work? Is Maduro a load-bearing boss, so to speak, or does he have an inner circle who would step up and swear vengeance in a civil war?

I really don't think Maduro is dumb enough to actually make a move against the embassy...I mean, he's dumb as shit, but this is an obvious trap. Even some animals can identify traps.

But man, I really would love to see shit go down if he actually tried!

No, something that all Americans seem to forget about why Venezuela spiraled to shit is that many venezuelans had a literally cult around Chavez (like all shitty South America dictators) and the shitstorm that happened when he died. Meanwhile the only reason people support Maduro is because their are in his corrupt government or because he is Chavez successor.

I hope Maduro just KYS so i can't get drafted to fight in a shitty jungle, we had enough with guerillas.

Godamm venezuelans and their fake socialism, how will Bernie and Donkey face lady explain this?

Maduro is a dumbass - he should have resigned a long time ago. That way he could at least get back into office years later if the new pro-American liberal government screws up, a-la Daniel Ortega. Instead, it seems he just wants to end up like Salvador Allende.

Allende was elected by fair elections and would have been replaced peacefully.

america actually intentionally crashed the oil market specifically to hurt venezuela! it's the power of the petrodollar, man!
The "power of the petrodollar" and its death real soon (and its replacement with yuan or euros) seem to be a common belief among socialists/communists, free-banking-type libertarians and the far-/alt-right. Probably because it explains away so much and gives its believers an apocalyptic rallying point, a date near in the future where all the bad things goes away and can be replaced by good things.

The reality is more complex. One reason for the US dollar's continued success is that it is freely available to foreign investors, unlike the Chinese yuan. For all the whining the Chinese make about the dollar's continued dominance, they are unwilling -- with good reason -- to liberalized their currency, a key step if they want to become a reserve currency. In fact, many (most/all?) of the Belt and Road contacts are US dollar-denominated. Which means that those countries will have pay the Chinese in US dollars, which means they need to get USD from the rest the world, which increase that currency's importance.

Now, that's a small piece of the puzzle and I'm no expert. It is a complex and technical issue, but then again, the believers in "power of the petrodollar" mythos aren't looking for technical analysis, but a secular Book of Revelations.

It was real socialism but America destroyed it as it was a threat to capitalism.
This begs the question why America needs an army anymore if they can so easily convince enemy nations to totally mismanage the production of their one important export.

Regardless of what we do the most likely result is another despot takes over.
