I haven't played the wii version of muramasa in ages. Am I missing something here whats bad about the localization?
Didn't mention the Muramasa title, I played it on the Vita and as far as I know it's fine. But companies especially Marvelous are known nowadays for changing earlier versions of localizations to "update" them.

Are VanillaWare games just doomed? Both 13 Sentinels and Unicorn Overlord got dog shit localizations, and I don't doubt the next game will be similar. I bought UO on sale and played the entire thing muted without reading anything besides tutorials. The game was fine, but like what was the point?

Unicorn Overlord localization was discussed earlier in the thread.
Adding some screenshots here for reference:

...and I honestly don't see the big deal. I tried playing it for a few hours in Japanese with English subs and the JP voice acting was really bad. It sounded like a Samurai game. Most of the English adds that flowery / Victorian / Game of Thrones type language and I don't think it's bad. Sure there are a few spots people pointed out where some meanings were changed, but overall I get the feeling the original game dialog was pretty basic and the localizers were just trying to make it not crap.

UO is great from a gameplay standpoint, and art and music, but the story is easily skippable. I remember very little of it, and most of the story comes in the four big lore dumps when you open up those shrines towards the final parts of the game.

What were the issues with 13 Sentinels? That's honestly my favourite of the three Vanillaware titles I've played; the other being Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. I was worried about censorship/changes, but what I've read, Leifthrasir stays true to the original, with some of the more annoying game mechanics fixed (you can play the original as an option from the main menu too).

I played Odin Sphere back on the PS2 because so many people recommended it to me. They all said "It's so visually stunning, every frame is a painting, I have never seen something so beautiful", and all the usual shit. It's true tho, it's incredibly pretty, but that's really about as far as it's qualities go.

It runs terrible, plays like dogshit, progression is super awkward and time consuming and I found the story book system to be a mess. I hear 90% of this got fixed in the PS4 re-release tho, that it's actually an excellent game now, so if you're gonna give it a shot, stay away from the original version.

It's a really bad game. I got it for $4 on PS3 years ago and every time I try to pick it up I just don't want to go on. It's eye candy without much else. It just isn't fun and that's a huge problem.
