They kind of are but only when they're discounted. No way should 5 year old hardware cost 500$. The Pro version is well worth the price considering it doubles the performance at a minimumAnd the models of the Playstation being currently sold are not much better
Neither do you have to on a jailbroken PS4, and here's my counterpoint, it's cutting edge just like the Steam Machine because it has 8GB of VRAM as wellcounterpoint: on the steam machine you dont have to pay, YARR!!!!
this makes no sense, the ps4 has no games so what would even be the point of jailbreaking it? what would you pirate on it???Neither do you have to on a jailbroken PS4, and here's my counterpoint, it's cutting edge just like the Steam Machine because it has 8GB of VRAM as well
You know you won't get engagement and ad revenue here for acting retarded right?the ps4 has no games
I respectfully disagree. In the UK, with the people I work with, I am the only one with a desktop PC and it's the source of a few pelters when we talk about the internet because I don't browse on my phone. None of the console owners have PCs.Everyone has a PC of some form factor nowdays, I can assure you a huge chunk of those 140 million Steam MAU are primary console users
Virtually, they're not. £69.99 for new releases in the UK, they're £59.99 or £49.99 at worst. It's not 2010 anymore. Games are virtually the same price on console as they are on Steam
How would that justify the price? Online free play justifies the price more than one or two games. Not that I disagree that they should make more game.I wish Valve still made Source games to justify the Steam Machine purchase
You've based that scenario in your head. The Steam stats say that this would be an affordable upgrade for many, many gamers. Half of PSN users, some 70 million playstation players, are still gaming on a PS4, which had laptop internals in 2013.It's not unreasonable to get shocked at the sticker price of a computer with 2020 performance, 6 years later and at double the price, on top of being memory bottlenecked with no way to get around it.
A lot of games require more than 8gb of VRAM even at 1080p if you set the textures too high.
It's not, for all the reasons pointed above. You're refusing to accept reality and have in your mind that it's still 2005 and buying the most cutting edge hardware is a requirement to play the best PC games. That thing is DOA if you're thinking long term and not just want to burn the money you have
What about Laptops? they are also PCs and their sales boomed during covidI respectfully disagree. Because its an incentive like the way PS5 launch exclusives wereHow would that justify the price
No it really doesn't because there are people who either only play SP or f2p games that don't require a subscription so it doesn't make a difference to themOnline free play justifies the price more than one or two games.
Never said any of this and you're projecting right now. All im saying is that there is clearly much greater value to be had outside of the Steam Machine.have in your mind that it's still 2005 and buying the most cutting edge hardware is a requirement to play the best PC games.
Neither will you.You know you won't get engagement and ad revenue here for acting retarded right?
Oh! I want to add something concerning jailbroken PS4s running on Linux. From the few games they tried out, I remember seeing the PC builds of CS:GO or CS2 running in a pretty awful framerate. Even though it's a x86-based hardware, the linux drivers need to be fully reverse-engineered if you want a good experience... It's also a decade old system, the gap between GCN 2.0 and RDNA3 is extremely high, even if they both have 8GB of vram (ddr6 for the gabecube, so faster memory as well).Neither do you have to on a jailbroken PS4, and here's my counterpoint, it's cutting edge just like the Steam Machine because it has 8GB of VRAM as well
Its Bulldozer architecture is a much bigger issue than GCN or driver compatability. Also im pretty sure that even if it is x86 it's missing a lot of instruction sets that Linux needs. i think 750 is the most id buy it for, tho there are two situations where its 750. one where its 750 for the 2tb model and around 500 for the 500gb model or one where its 750 for the 500gb model and 1k+ for the 2tb. im not too dependent on storage since i dont play 100gb games and can use a microsd card for movies and shows but i think if its 750 for only 500gb of storage when this is aimed at console players who do want to play 100gb games then i think that is going to severely handicap the market since no console player is going to want to change the internal drive or even buy a new internal drive for it in the first place.Nobody will buy the steam machine at $750.
That’s my thinking too. The Machine serves no purpose to someone with a 4070 Super and a 7900x CPU, but a reasonably powerful stationless VR headset without Facebook with a better passthrough than whatever the Quest uses will probably move units. I also love my steam deck so a controller with that form factor and TMR is tempting as hell.Personally I am most excited for the Steam Frame. I often find myself wanting to meditate and living next to a major road and a highway, plus in a sharehouse, it's extremely hard to find some quiet outside of noise cancelling headphones (this doesn't solve the visual nightmare of living in an urban area though). I've been extremely hesitant to buy any VR stuff because it either costs an arm and a leg or is Meta, which is the fucking worst choice in my opinion.
I am actually super excited for the expansion stuff (colour passthrough hopefully). I think, even if it is a little expensive, will sell really well because it means I can play my vidya in a virtual theatre and have total noise cancellation and not be tethered (aka lie in bed with a controller). I think a lot of people are generally sleeping on it and focusing more on the Steam Machine, but for me the Steam Frame was by far the most impressive announcement.
Oh yeah, Zen was truly a God-given blessing to AMD, I still remember being team red back in 2015... Bulldozer SUCKED! I spit on thee. Its Bulldozer architecture is a much bigger issue than GCN or driver compatability. Also im pretty sure that even if it is x86 it's missing a lot of instruction sets that Linux needs. I'm wondering if the alpha males of today may plan to save up money, doing oddjobs and keeping their parent's christmas gifts in a piggy jar. I managed to purchase my very own iPod touch with my own money, a kid could own a pretty good $700 PC if he works his ass out for it.Nobody will buy the steam machine at $750.
Gabe Newell has been retired for a decade now I don't get why newgens worship him after the fact and even more so when his memes have been irrelevant for a decade as wellLet the estimated price of your so called "savior of the console wars" remind anyone who thought this was going to do for the industry what the NES did 40 years ago serve as a painful but necessary reminder to you all
1. These corporations are not your friends, they don't care about you or making you happy they only care about the bottom line and the almighty dollar....about almost 1000 of them.
2. Gabe Newell may have the white beard and belly for it, but he is NOT Santa Claus. This wasn't going to present to anyone not already rich or at least making a decent living while disciplined enough to save a
hundred dollara a week for two months to buy it.
