Although I don't really care about any of these people, I had hoped Becky would succeed. I knew Amber would blow her diet the very first month, and she did, but Becky seemed more determined. Fuck what Amber says, but Becky should prepare her own meals and snacks at home. Take Amber to restaurants if Amber wants to eat herself to death. Becky can keep her company and order water or a small salad. There's no rule that you have to eat what/when your partner does. Maybe I just don't get how emotional abuse works?

I don't think Becky was really into the weight loss to begin with. On younow I think it's her Dr.Pepper (not diet soda). She was just doing it to (try) and support AL. Becky couldn't even cook her own food, she had to eat AL's slops which would make it hard for anyone to stay on a diet. AL stated she didn't want Becky to cook because she wanted to know what was in her food. lol but then she goes out to eat everyday and said she isn't counting calories anymore. I don't think Becky ever ate out as much as AL does though (but her family does seem to like the Texas Roadhouse place).

I do think if Becky tried to order healthy food at a restaurant AL might give her shit. Like she wants the "drinking buddy" so she doesn't feel like the failure drag another down with her.

Who else thinks that AL is one of those customers who can’t stand in the line at check out without buying a handful of those cheap dollar item candies or magazines?

She has zero impulse control

This. I was going to comment the same thing. I used to have a friend who would say stuff like “you’re going to make me feel fat if ...”. Yes think it’s spot on.

Fat people hate when other fat people try to lose weight, they quickly become crabs in a bucket pulling you back down. The only way a fat person is going to lose weight is by dropping the fat friends first before they drop you.

Yeah, I don't think AL did because she said it was a surprise so I guess she expected Vday 1.0 to be it.
Do people normally get people other than their family/partner gifts for valentines day? I mean my family always celebrated by, we'd get like one box of candy or a cake and each get some, but it was never like a big deal. I never got my friends or anyone else valentines candy or, especially gifts or anything that would cost any significant amount of money; maybe a gift or some token but its not anything you wouldnt do for them any other day, like, youd buy them lunch or a drink or something or maybe a small gift--AL is alone in going out of her way to give people these ridiculous gifts right?

Does she realize that being overly-affectionate, fake, selfishly-generous--being showy in your gift giving is just as much a social faux-pas as being ignorant of the social norms or showing up empty handed?

:powerlevel: I don't.

But AL uses the excuse of being SUCH a giving person to spend all this money on other people when really it's probably because she doesn't have anything else to offer that would actually keep a person around.

In my personal opinion, giving a small thing like a card, or some chocolate, to a family member or friend isn’t all that weird.

It's not weird, especially for people that truly do just love giving gifts. The difference is that those kinds of people are just as happy giving a small token of appreciation (like a few chocolates or something), because it's the thought that counts. Amber on the other hand goes way overboard with the gifts to prove her generosity.

I think in Amber's case, she's just a horrible friend in certain ways. Can't physically help someone out, can't drive them somewhere, etc. So, she just throws money at gifts for people to try to make up for it. I think it's a way she shows her insecurity as well.
