So, if we can take probiotics and we can get virus and bacterial infections from things we eat, and we know how to edit the inside of bacteria/viruses to allow them to carry a custom payload, then why aren't there vaccine pills yet that we can just swallow painlessly instead of having to get jabbed by a needle?
 
Logistics.
Storing the virus in liquid pills would be a pain in the ass compared to just storing them in a vial until ready.

Its also more direct to get it into the bloodstream rather than the gut.
 
The prospect of edible vaccines is something that's being worked on. But rather than a pill, it's food.
The tomato seems to be the most heavily studied candidate for this use.

 
You seem to be putting viruses and bacterial infections in the same bag. They're not the same thing by a long shot. It's like comparing leeches to elephants.
