A rather contentious issue over the past ~50 years is whether women should work or stay at home and be meek housewives. While the former is becoming increasingly more common, there are those who not only cling to the latter, but demonize anyone who dares suggest that the former has any merit. Enter Voat's community for this, /v/TraditionalWives. (Archive) The issue I take with this group isn't that it's made up of proud housewives. If a woman wants to stay at home with the kids while the husband works, fine. That's what my mom did. My issue is that they demonize any woman who does otherwise.

They particularly have a hate-boner for single moms.

Never mind the fact that there are plenty of successful people who were raised by single mothers, like current Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and neurosurgery pioneer Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Carson is also married with kids.

This could be a funny thread, but it isn't. The off-topic sperging is not helping.

Yes, please. Take as a model a woman that, after her son molested two her daughters, not only tried to cover it up, and later tried to defend him, but also sent the daughters he molested on FOX News to defend him. And few years later, the same son was caught up in the AshleyMadison scandal: where it emerged that he was having unprotected sex with a porn star while his wife was right about to give birth to their third? child.

The striking thing about tradwife communities is how they are, by and large, extremely low skill. Self-identified "tradwives" brag about completing basic housekeeping tasks, following simple recipes, keeping to a budget, and carrying out little make-do-and-mend repairs around the home. Those who are mothers are overwhelmingly inexperienced, either smugly believing they have it all figured out because they've got an easy baby, or totally unprepared and off in the weeds. And if you look more closely at the few women who actually seem to have some tradlife skills, they're indistinguishable from fandom moms - that is, they seek out the company of losers and literal children because they struggle to interact normally with normal adults.

Every person in society should strive to be conversant in these basic life skills, whether or not they are married, intend to marry, work outside the home, have children, or even particularly like children. And because few things feel worse than struggling to be barely adequate at something most people seem to do without effort, it's easy to see why some women are susceptible to a worldview that bundles commonsense self improvement with hyperbolized, polarizing politics. Small successes suddenly seem more consequential and high-stakes than they actually are.

If you can't see the humor in barely-functioning people acting like they're saviors of the white race because they managed to dig themselves out of a legbeard nest lair or feed a toddler something other than Easy Mac...well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Threads like this make me think there are a lot more women there than you might assume from all the incel reeeeing they do there. It's a pretty long discussion about childbirth and I doubt even men that go there are desperate enough to LARP as pregnant women in an advice thread.

I've wondered whether these "trad" communities are attempts at forging right-wing analogs to the Rat King. Do they really hate SJWs out of principle or merely out of envy that liberal democracies have enabled the lazy left to parlay their shitty lifestyles into something sustainable?
  • Both communities have respective members who spend a disturbing amount of their waking hours mainlining on the internet.
  • Both are committed to a pathological level of ideological purity.
  • Both typically come from comfortable middle to upper class roots.
  • Both asspat and support each other, in some rare cases financially.
  • Both grossly overestimate their own skill while opening basic bitch inquiries nobody educated on the subject would ask.
  • Both invest tons of emotion into popular culture.
  • Both are led by charismatic individuals with dubious credentials.
