I thought Elon was joking and that he'd take on a part-time advisory role at most for the task. I didn't think that DoGE would become real. But I'm glad that it will be.

People didn't even read the press release. Trump talked about them working "from outside of government". It's not going to be an actual agency or department. It's just essentially going to be an advisory group named DOGE that will make recommendations of what/how to cut in various federal agencies which Trump will then act on with his actual power.

DOGE itself will have no legal authority or power. It exists to point Trump in the right directions.
