They understand full well what a purity spiral is, and they've now seen the logical conclusion (Charlie Kirk's assassination) of being on the losing end of one.

I've read a bit of Sanderson. Martin writes torture porn, Sanderson writes philosophy a la carte. I stopped reading Martin because I didn't care what horrible things he did to torture his characters constantly, it didn't make me want to keep reading.

Those skills are undesirable in people the political caste wants to dominate. Strong households and families produce strong people willing to defend each other (and themselves) from external threats rather than begging the state for protection.
