They started phasing out home economics in the 80s believe it or not. I just googled it.
My school got rid of it in the 2000s when I was there, although I would imagine that the more rural areas of Missouri still have home economics and shop available for kids.
It all depends on your proximity to a blue city I would imagine. Probably if you live in California or the closer you are to a blue city, your chances of actually learning anything in school drastically goes down.

You don't need a "program" to fix this. Programs fuck things up. Just turn off the tap. If you want food, go work. No, we're not helping you find work. Do it yourself. No "marketable skills"? Not my problem. Go look for entry-level work. Can't get past the interview because you're an anti-social fucking ape with no social skills? Not my problem. Learn to be a human, subsist on dumpster leavings for all I care in the interim.

If you resort to criminal activity to eat, you will go to prison, where at least the food & shelter problem will be solved for you. And yes, I am okay with my tax dollars being spent on this. Happy to pay to have the dregs walled off and away from me and my loved ones.

Okay. What about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment? Black people fought in the Civil War on both the side of the Union and the Confederacy. This is historical fact. I've never met someone who denies it.

Yeah. They were COLORED regiments. As in segregated. The movie Glory is about the fucking start of that system, and the 54th Massachusetts infantry regiment still exists to this day.

Eh, not really. It was reactivated to serve as a ceremonial unit for the Massachusetts National Guard and they also use one of the companies as a living history thing. It's cool, in my opinion, but it's not an active fighting unit.

Sure, I agree that some things aren't as simple anymore. People used to be able to do car repair, but now with all of the chips they throw into cars, you can't repair as much as you used to. But there are still plenty of home ec things you can still learn that will benefit you for your whole life like cooking, home repair, machine repair, etc. It's better for the individual citizen if somebody passes along the useful knowledge. The people in charge of education have no incentive to do that, but I don't think we should totally give up on it.
