It's weird seeing Legend of Zelda stuff at Hot Topic. Then again, it's weird that Hot Topic is still around.

Baby where we're going we're gonna play Secret of Mana instead.

Are you suggesting 3p? I'm not that kind of girl, this relationship is over. </3

I couldn't think of a secret of manah joke other than the obvious tranny one. :(

Who needs women anyway, I'll just play by myself ):

Hot Topic just follows whatever fad the kids are into so no surprise it still stands. Used to be goth shit, now it's nerd shit.

I got this on the suggested groups list on my Facebook for some reason...

Why the fuck are people going crazy with the porgs when the movie hasn't even come out yet?
Have you figured it out yet?

i don't even get the appeal, on a purely superficial level. ugly little motherfuckers got a nasty design. At least Ewoks are cute teddybears and B-8 is a basketball robot, these look like the inbred offspring of a penguin and a guinea pig.

The shop itself has always seemed tacky, even before the nerdy shit. I've only seen the online version of the store as Hot Topic isn't where I am (thank god) and it just seems like a bunch of tacky stuff for whatever tacky aesthetic is "cool" right now. But that's business, eh? I guess it gives a good idea of what is really in demand en masse... Makes it easier to avoid the people who follow every new fad like gospel because they need some form of identity.

It's definitely a common (but smart) strategy- biggest DVD/CD company that I know of is doing similar things, a location near me used to sell shirts and it was pretty cool but now it's just funko pops as far as the eye can see. There wouldn't be so much of a problem with this, however t-shirts about a favourite thing don't tend to collect dust, they'll always be in demand as long as people are a fan of anything; if it exists it's probably on a tshirt. Funko pops will go out of fashion eventually and end up being useless (something you keep in the attic) at some point and there will be less of a demand for them. Then all is right with the world.

All this hype over something that apparently can't stand up on it's own due to the proportions...

Initially I didn't have a problem with Funkos but goodness the fact that there's so many of them is what turns me off. I kinda wonder how the hell they passed through all the copyright to get some of the characters to make into dolls.

A lot of things that get hyped up end up not being worth it. Like movies. Frozen, It Follows, and other such movies that were being hyped by everyone as being so-good-you'll-shit-yourself, and you end up watching something wondering why you wasted your time and money on it; people make it out to be this big revolutionary thing, but it's really not.

So Wu's political ad on the front page is the kinda shit I was thinking about when I was making this thread. That kinda low level us gaymurs retardation. It also reminded me of that picture of Clinton playing a gameboy during the 90s that they brought back to use during her campaign. All in the effort to make her more relatable.

That and these shirts.

It's quite simple, actually. They only need to pay the company that licenses the actual show/movie/game.

If you take a company like NECA, who makes highly detailed figures, they not only have to pay the studio for the rights to the media in question, but if the figure is a human character, they also have to pay the ACTOR for the likeness rights.

With funko? No such issue. Because they look nothing like the actor.

They probably didn't care about that because they know for the most part people aren't going to take them out of the box and "ruin their value" because that's what you're "supposed" to do. Which only works for things that won't have a value of zero in a few years. That sort of thing is generally unpredictable anyways, but I think for the most part the crap people collect because it'll be worth something eventually is almost never worth more than retail price.

It depends on the item really, and where you are in the world. There's things here that aren't in production anymore, would be of value to a british person as it's to do with a british show, but somewhere else like the US, it may not have as much value.

Funko pops are pretty mainstream, and as there's so many, I doubt they'll really be worth that much when the mass production of them stops. They're also pretty cheap compared to some other "collectibles".

Won't lie, I'd judge someone less for having a couple funko pops as a larger collection of something they're a fan of. Like if someone is a die-hard fan of Back To The Future, i'll judge them less for having a funko pop of Doc Brown than having a large collection of just funko pops, because funko pops.

They seem to be a staple for some movie reviewers I've seen like calm down we know you like movies.

Someone on my office floor has a big pile of funko pops lining her cubicle walls. I annoy her by deliberately mistaking what they're supposed to be, like pointing at the Harry Potter one and saying "oh is that the Doctor Who?"

Still busy trolling aspies I see.

They're just the modern day version of Beanie Babies. Those too were marketed as something that will be worth a FORTUNE someday, and not surprisingly, they're absolutely worthless now.
