Voting in the US midterm elections is now underway.

UpdatedUpdated 27 September
By Rashida Yosufzai, Nick Baker
In this article...
Americans have started to cast their ballots in a vote that could shape the rest of Donald Trump's presidency.

Although the US midterm elections are technically held on 6 November, early voting has already started in a handful of states.

Minnesota was the first state to allow early in-person voting on 21 September, with a handful of key states following, including New Jersey, California and Arizona.

Thirty-five states and the District of Columbia offer some form of early voting, meaning every day until 6 November counts for Democrats and Republicans.

It's been an inauspicious beginning to the voting season for Mr Trump and his Republican Party, which continue to struggle under the weight of near-constant self-imposed crises and chaos.

80 per cent chance of winning back the chamber.

Republicans have a 1 in 5 chance of keeping control of the House, while Democrats have about a 4 in 5 chance of winning control of the House. https://t.co/lyNh30TEIw pic.twitter.com/O38qtMPpIz

The Senate though is likely to be retained by the Republicans.

According to CNN, the Democrats are defending some two dozen seats, including 10 in states where Mr Trump secured victory in 2016, and five of those where he won resoundingly.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Democrats just a 30 per cent chance of taking the Senate.

The Democrats could also use their numbers to set up House select committees targeting the president.

"They will have an opportunity to set up special panels and committees to essentially smear President Trump," United States Studies Centre research fellow Dougal Robinson told SBS News in April.

Mr Robinson pointed to the Benghazi committee set up by the Republicans against Hillary Clinton in 2014 to further investigate the fatal 2012 terrorist attack on two US government facilities in Libya.

Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Once seen as cruising to an easy vote - fulfilling Mr Trump's key promise to stack the Supreme Court with conservative justices - a string of sexual assault allegations has turned the Kavanaugh decision into all-out political war.

According to CNN's national political reporter Eric Bradner, the scandal and lukewarm response from some Republicans to Mr Kavanaugh's accusers could "drive suburban women away in midterms".

I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 21, 2018
Analysts also point to Robert Mueller's investigation as an ongoing potential source of political curveballs.

Mr Mueller has already indicted more than 30 people in connection with his probe into whether members of Mr Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to help get the real estate tycoon elected.

And speculation has swirled in recent days that Mr Trump may fire embattled deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein - who oversees the Russia collusion probe.

Doubts over how long Mr Rosenstein can keep the job have swirled since shock media reports that he once suggested secretly recording Mr Trump to collect evidence for ousting him under a constitutional amendment for presidents unfit to remain in office.

Mr Rosenstein's firing - and Mr Trump possibly putting someone more pliable in his place - would set off alarm bells over the future independence of a probe, which has the potential to rock both the midterms and the entire Trump presidency.

US wants ‘partnership, not domination’ in Australia and region[/paste:font]

A report co-authored by Mr Robinson predicted after the midterms, Congress would be highly unlikely to support a US re-entry to the Trans-Pacific Partnership - a trade deal between 11 Pacific nations including Australia and New Zealand which Mr Trump pulled the US out of last year.

Another issue that may affect Australia is that if the Democrats retake the House, it is likely to lead to lower defence spending.

How will Trump keep his voter base energized? "More Winning."

TRUMP HAS A TWO WORD RESPONSE WHEN REPORTER ASKS HIM HOW HE WILL KEEP GOP BASE ENERGIZED
5:52 PM 10/10/2018
Benny Johnson | Reporter At Large

President Donald Trump made portions of the White House press corps chuckle with his response on how he intends to keep Republican voters fired up after the ultimately successful confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“How do you keep your base energized now that you have this Kavanaugh victory?” one reporter asked. Tuesday was the first day that Kavanaugh sat on the court after a contentious battle over his nomination.

“More winning,” Trump said.

Trump was leaving the White House on his way to a campaign rally Tuesday night when he took questions from reporters in the White House driveway.

The president was also asked about the mobs of paid progressive protesters that took over Capitol Hill during the contentious debate over Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Trump was specifically asked about the intense “energy” of the protesters.

“A lot of those were paid protesters. You saw that they are all unhappy because they haven’t been paid yet,” Trump alleged about the protesters. (RELATED: Trump Has A Theory Why The Anti-Kavanaugh Protesters Are So Mad)

Trump brought up his new trade deal with Canada and Mexico as a major policy win. “Our deal with Mexico and Canada was fantastic,” Trump said. “China wants to make a deal so badly. We will see where it goes. But I don’t think they are ready.”

MATT DRUDGE WARNS OF MIDTERM BLOODBATH: TRUMP TO LOSE ’60 SEATS IN THE HOUSE LIKE OBAMA DID’
2:41 PM 09/14/2018
Peter Hasson | Reporter

Conservative news giant Matt Drudge on Friday made a somber prediction about Republicans’ chances in the November midterm elections, predicting President Donald Trump will see his party lose 60 seats in the House of Representatives.

Drudge, who runs the influential Drudge Report, compared the upcoming midterms to the electoral bloodbath Democrats suffered in the 2010 midterm elections under former President Barack Obama.

“Trump and Obama both have 47% approval at this time of presidency, according to Rasmussen. Trump will also lose 60 seats in the House like Obama did during first midterm!” Drudge wrote on Twitter. (RELATED: Democrats Should Immediately Abolish ICE After Retaking Congress)

He added cryptically: “Unless…”

Democrats have to gain 23 House seats in November in order to flip the lower chamber. Democrats have an 83 percent chance of retaking the House, according to FiveThirty Eight.

Mark Taylor (The Trump Prophecies): Most Important Midterm Elections In All Of US History
July 30, 2018 29 3159

Mark Taylor says the upcoming 2018 elections are the most important mid-term elections in all of America’s history. Here’s why…

Mark Taylor interviewed by Greg Hunter on USA Watchdog

Mark Taylor, author of the popular book “The Trump Prophecies,” contends, “If you are part of the army of God, you need to be ready also because there are going to be politicians that are going to resign. We have had the biggest number of resignations probably in history. This midterm election is going to be huge. This is going to be a red tsunami. They keep talking about the blue wave. I think it’s going to be a blue drip, a leaky faucet, and that is all they are going to get. You have had more resignations than we have ever seen. Now is the time to go in and capture this ground and hold it for the Kingdom of God. . . . It’s not a left or right thing. God is moving us towards a place of righteousness. That’s what’s happening right now. So, he’s going to be replacing these people. If you are called to be a judge, senator, congressman or a council person, I don’t care what level local, state or federal, take your place and get ready. If you are in the Army of God and you don’t vote, you need to get off your behind and register to vote. These are going to be the most important midterm elections in America’s history—period.”

In closing, Taylor says, “I don’t think there is going to be another Democrat in the White House for a long time, if ever again. I believe you are seeing the death of the Democrat party right now.”

Join Greg Hunter as he goes One-on-One with Mark Taylor, co-author of “The Trump Prophecies,” which has been made into a movie that is releasing in early October.

Hyphen girl got less than 20,000 votes IN HER ENTIRE POLITICAL CAREER.

That's about the number of votes that you'd expect a candidate running for Sheriff in a podunk town to get, and yet it somehow put an imbecile in a congressional seat.

It was a political ambush orchestrated by loonie left PACs (Cenk Uygur's Soros stink was all over it). It worked because of identity politics(read: anti-white racism) and voter apathy(entrenched and unsuspecting incumbent, and pathetically-low voter turnout).

They unseated a candidate that was considered the 4th-ranked Democrat, and a strong contender to beat out Pelosi as Speaker, and they crushed him in the process. He'll be forever known as "The guy who lost to the socialist nitwit", and he's ruined.

They traded one of their best-and-brightest seasoned veterans for a loonie laughingstock.

Hi-larious.

Don't change, Democrats. Don't you ever change.
How did the Democratic Party get this short sighted? It seems like everything they do anymore is just one short sighted virtue signaling blunder after another.

TBF primary voters in both parties tend to be far more extreme than the average voter who just turns up for the general election. That was why Judge Dingbat got nominated by Repubs in Alabama to fill that Senate seat.

But, yeah, at a minimum it looks like the guy who lost fell asleep at the switch, underestimated his opponent and got turned into road pizza in consequence.

The Minnesota kebab is woke to the JQ, so can't be all that bad, right?

Reminds me of this
https://www.meforum.org/islamist-watch/articles/2012/ron-paul-panders-to-anti-semitism-in-michigan
The flyer actually has two sides. The English side promotes Paul's "Plan to Restore America" and touts his deficit cutting prowess and dislike of the Federal Reserve. The Arabic side, however – the side shown above – is far less subtle. It says that Paul will cut foreign aid, and specifically mentions only foreign aid to Israel as the target of cutting.
Ben Shapiro is still butthurt to this day about it.

I have no worries about the Dems having the House. They'll squander it by wasting time on trying to get rid of Trump and not doing any real work. they'll be be booted out in 2020.

I know alt left tears are fun, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
Hmm...
https://www.climate.gov/news-featur...s-surface-temperature-stop-rising-past-decade
OK, fair enough, there was no warming from 2000 to 2016, it appears there has been some slight warming since then. In those 16 years all the extra global warming heat just went into the ocean, under the water where we couldn't see it. Because heat sinks, as everyone knows... This article says scientists are still trying to explain how the fuck that would happen (Hint: It doesn't, but saying that doesn't bring in the research bux)

The graph you posted is fun and all, but notice the scale. The upper end is +1C. The curve stayed pretty much flat for... well a while according to that graph, there's no real precision. Also it's projecting into the future. It's nice and scary and all, but a flat line that goes up a tiny bit in the last 3 years doesn't match the constant reports of things changing right now due to the increase in global temperatures.

Not to mention, they're factoring in ocean heat which has HUGE issues regarding how its measured. They're claiming temperature increases that are less than the precision of the instruments they measure with.

My point is, why is it that for 16 years the global temperature didn't increase at all, we were still being told it was in fact warming? Why doesn't this match any of the predictions? Why would a system that reacts to our constant output of CO2 operate in fits and starts?

As I've said before, I don't think global warming is disproven, but the facts really don't match the story told to the public, and it's hard not to be extremely suspicious when there's so much money involved. Thanks for throwing some updated info my way though, you're right that it's no longer correct to say there's been 0 warming since 2000. There was effectively zero warming from 2000 to 2016 though, which is still pretty fucking weird.

I don't really understand the hatred towards Muslims.
It's not so much hatred as the problems with integrating a culture mired in 7th century attitudes. Polygamy, for starters, may look good over there but is right the fuck out here.

Ah, the "clash of civilisations" hypothesis. This makes the mistake of assuming I. that there are enough Islamists who would convert Europe to Sharia, there are not; II. that Islam is monolithic. Saudi and Iran have been sniping and proxy-warring at each other for centuries over sectarian differences, and many Islamic governments are more interested in purging the heretic than expanding the Caliphate. Oh, and III. the Russians still are salty at the West and mistrust American military and economic power regardless.

My prediction:

In 50 years, the EU will have collapsed as the outer member states realise that being pay pigs for France, Germany, and Benelux isn't the way forward. Global warming will be expanding the Sahara and other deserts and climate refugees will scramble across the now heavily militarised Med, which is all but unnavigable thanks to Italian and Spanish mines. There will probably be a regional shooting war in the Middle East as the Saudis and their proxies battle the Iranians. With a sectarian undercurrent, this will not be a nice war to get stuck in. Imagine Iran/Iraq times ten. The US and China will probably be arming both sides in exchange for rapidly depleting oil concessions. Probably at the same time. Despite both sides pledging to wipe it off the map, Israel carries on regardless by playing off the Iranian-backed Hezbollah against Hamas, as by this time the various Muslim factions hate each other more than anything else. Many of the Palestinians give up violence when they realise that Israel is pretty much the only stable government in the region. Ironically, this war aids the Israel/Palestine peace process more than any number of summits.

More pressing than oil, though, is the need for rare earth metals and uraniam. Maybe optimistic here, but nuclear power is now a fact of life, especially in Europe. Thanks to Brexit, Britain leads the way in this (the lack of overregulation as to same helps) and has reactors running on the thorium cycle. Most of Devon and South Wales is strip-mined for this metal, despite huge environmental protests. The French re-colonised parts of Africa, effectively, to get their hands on the uranium in Niger. The Chinese, however, need those rare earth metals for their heavy industry and have effectively colonised Uganda, Kenya, and the DRC, buying off the locals with infrastructure projects and the promise of well paid jobs in industry, but at the price of their not electing leaders that will attempt to break free of the beneficence of the Middle Kingdom or rock the boat too much. The Second Scramble for Africa is well underway.

Venezuela collapsed totally by 2030. The runoff from its collapse brought down the governments of Bolivia and Colombia as well in the decade following, and for the past 25 years the region is effectively in the hands of whichever warlord has control of the oilfields that week, as they can trade the increasingly scarce oil to the major powers in exchange for guns and military hardware. As bad as this de facto government is, the rebels (who fund their rebellion via the cocaine trade) are even worse. A steady stream of refugees heads either north up Central America. Mexico, despite being riven with corruption and part-owned by the cartels, elected a strongman leader in 2035 who actually did build a wall, and caused a minor scandal when he attempted to serve the Venezuelan government in exile's representative with an invoice for it on the floor of the UN. Unfortunately it didn't help; entire populations all but climbed over it in the form of a human pyramid. The Mexican middle classes found themselves suffering the worst effects of a migrant crisis and all headed north to the US, which is now a predominantly Spanish-speaking nation.

The rest of the refugees try to get into Brazil, which is burgeoning economically thanks to a concerted effort to drive out corruption, through the rainforest. Many vanish without a trace.

Russia sees the semi-collapse of the EU as an opportunity. Eastern Ukraine is formally annexed. Belarus volunteers to be annexed. The Baltic states fear they will be gobbled up one by one but the Russians find that the damage caused to their economies and infrastructure by mounting an invasion and the risk of guerilla warfare would make it a net loss. Instead they are coercively entered into a "Eurasian Union" with a line of tanks on the horizon.

Canada is doing really well for itself. Global warming is actually being of a net benefit to it as the tundra becomes increasingly fertile. Ditto Norway. Sweden, however, collapsed as its policy of uncontrolled climate- and war-refugee welcoming led to waves of violence rebounding around the place. In 2051 a man claiming to be a distant descendent of Charles XII formed a hardline monarchist faction, Divine Right of Kings and all that. He seized power, had the previous King and the Prime Minister hanged as usurpers, and set up an absolute monarchy and went into strict isolationism. Charles XVII contines to rule by decree.

France and Germany and Benelux remain as the European Union. By now effectively a singular state, ever closer union has been achieved at last. Unfortunately nobody else is in it. Their hyper-regulated and deeply bureaucratic régime is widely considered all talk and no tackle. President Amira abdel Mannaf, nicknamed the Hijabi Heckler, makes constant statements condemning almost everything in the wider world, and flinging anathemas at anyone and everyone, who roundly ignore her. The European Union remains in a stagnant low-growth economy reliant on importing migrants to do the scutwork while the middle classes shuffle paper around. Industry is regulated to fuck and taxes are high. Yet despite this, and exceptionally generous social programs, emigration to Britain or Italy or Spain is a constant underhum.

Japan continues apace though tensions with China remain high. It is almost as isolationist now as it was in the 19th century, though it maintains trade agreements around the world.

Right, that's my autism over for today.

Thanks. That was fun to read.

Honestly it's more the whole "Murder the infidels" part. I realize it's a minority of muslims, but a minority of a huge group is still a lot of people. What other group has been proudly releasing media of itself decapitating people, for example?

On top of that, every so often you see polls done with muslims, and like 60% say terrorism in the name of islam is justified. So even if only a small minority do this shit, a lot of other muslims agree with them. Hell, I knew a dude who was just a regular kid, except when it came to someone disrespecting islam, then his position changed to "Why don't they just make fun of the other religions, nobody should make fun of islam"

If a group is sure of their own superiority and wants to forcibly convert others, it's not surprising people have a problem with that. Hell, people don't like Jehova's Witnesses, and all they do is knock on your door and dress weird.

In October 2018 Shea acknowledged that he had distributed a four page manifesto linked to the racist, anti-semitic, white supremacist Christian Identity movement, which called for the killing of non-Christian males if they do not follow fundamentalist biblical law.[1][2] Shea was referred to the FBI for investigation as a result.[3]

He also, reportedly, bust out laughing during a senate meeting, or maybe it was a party? I dunno, some gathering of the important at any rate... and when asked what was so funny, replied that he had just realized he could order them all to have their throats slit, and there was likewise nothing they could do to stop him....

That was Tiberius.

Conspiratarding about how she was pushed in 3, 2, 1...

I'm glad the usual suspects got so emotionally invested in the midterm outcome and fallout (Jeff Sessions firing, runoff demand in GA, etc) that they've forgotten about blaming Trump for that recent mass shooting in Pittsburgh. Thank goodness for the one-week news cycle and goldfish memory.

That shooting is inconvenient to their narrative. Yes it involves a White Male shooter. But it also involved a heroic cop charging into a hail of gunfire to protect people, getting shot and killed, on his Last Day before retirement. Go ahead and take a knee Kaepernik! Yeah this one brings up all sorts of things they want to ignore.

Exactly. I don't hate people, but I do hate bad ideas.

And Shariah Law is LOADED with bad ideas for western countries.
