Voting in the US midterm elections is now underway.

UpdatedUpdated 27 September
By Rashida Yosufzai, Nick Baker
In this article...
Americans have started to cast their ballots in a vote that could shape the rest of Donald Trump's presidency.

Although the US midterm elections are technically held on 6 November, early voting has already started in a handful of states.

Minnesota was the first state to allow early in-person voting on 21 September, with a handful of key states following, including New Jersey, California and Arizona.

Thirty-five states and the District of Columbia offer some form of early voting, meaning every day until 6 November counts for Democrats and Republicans.

It's been an inauspicious beginning to the voting season for Mr Trump and his Republican Party, which continue to struggle under the weight of near-constant self-imposed crises and chaos.

80 per cent chance of winning back the chamber.

The Senate though is likely to be retained by the Republicans.

According to CNN, the Democrats are defending some two dozen seats, including 10 in states where Mr Trump secured victory in 2016, and five of those where he won resoundingly.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Democrats just a 30 per cent chance of taking the Senate.

The Democrats could also use their numbers to set up House select committees targeting the president.

"They will have an opportunity to set up special panels and committees to essentially smear President Trump," United States Studies Centre research fellow Dougal Robinson told SBS News in April.

Mr Robinson pointed to the Benghazi committee set up by the Republicans against Hillary Clinton in 2014 to further investigate the fatal 2012 terrorist attack on two US government facilities in Libya.

Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Once seen as cruising to an easy vote - fulfilling Mr Trump's key promise to stack the Supreme Court with conservative justices - a string of sexual assault allegations has turned the Kavanaugh decision into all-out political war.

According to CNN's national political reporter Eric Bradner, the scandal and lukewarm response from some Republicans to Mr Kavanaugh's accusers could "drive suburban women away in midterms".

I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 21, 2018
Analysts also point to Robert Mueller's investigation as an ongoing potential source of political curveballs.

Mr Mueller has already indicted more than 30 people in connection with his probe into whether members of Mr Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to help get the real estate tycoon elected.

And speculation has swirled in recent days that Mr Trump may fire embattled deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein - who oversees the Russia collusion probe.

Doubts over how long Mr Rosenstein can keep the job have swirled since shock media reports that he once suggested secretly recording Mr Trump to collect evidence for ousting him under a constitutional amendment for presidents unfit to remain in office.

Mr Rosenstein's firing - and Mr Trump possibly putting someone more pliable in his place - would set off alarm bells over the future independence of a probe, which has the potential to rock both the midterms and the entire Trump presidency.

US wants ‘partnership, not domination’ in Australia and region[/paste:font]

A report co-authored by Mr Robinson predicted after the midterms, Congress would be highly unlikely to support a US re-entry to the Trans-Pacific Partnership - a trade deal between 11 Pacific nations including Australia and New Zealand which Mr Trump pulled the US out of last year.

Another issue that may affect Australia is that if the Democrats retake the House, it is likely to lead to lower defence spending.

How will Trump keep his voter base energized? "More Winning."

TRUMP HAS A TWO WORD RESPONSE WHEN REPORTER ASKS HIM HOW HE WILL KEEP GOP BASE ENERGIZED
5:52 PM 10/10/2018
Benny Johnson | Reporter At Large

President Donald Trump made portions of the White House press corps chuckle with his response on how he intends to keep Republican voters fired up after the ultimately successful confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“How do you keep your base energized now that you have this Kavanaugh victory?” one reporter asked. Tuesday was the first day that Kavanaugh sat on the court after a contentious battle over his nomination.

“More winning,” Trump said.

Trump was leaving the White House on his way to a campaign rally Tuesday night when he took questions from reporters in the White House driveway.

The president was also asked about the mobs of paid progressive protesters that took over Capitol Hill during the contentious debate over Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Trump was specifically asked about the intense “energy” of the protesters.

“A lot of those were paid protesters. You saw that they are all unhappy because they haven’t been paid yet,” Trump alleged about the protesters. (RELATED: Trump Has A Theory Why The Anti-Kavanaugh Protesters Are So Mad)

Trump brought up his new trade deal with Canada and Mexico as a major policy win. “Our deal with Mexico and Canada was fantastic,” Trump said. “China wants to make a deal so badly. We will see where it goes. But I don’t think they are ready.”

MATT DRUDGE WARNS OF MIDTERM BLOODBATH: TRUMP TO LOSE ’60 SEATS IN THE HOUSE LIKE OBAMA DID’
2:41 PM 09/14/2018
Peter Hasson | Reporter

Conservative news giant Matt Drudge on Friday made a somber prediction about Republicans’ chances in the November midterm elections, predicting President Donald Trump will see his party lose 60 seats in the House of Representatives.

Drudge, who runs the influential Drudge Report, compared the upcoming midterms to the electoral bloodbath Democrats suffered in the 2010 midterm elections under former President Barack Obama.

“Trump and Obama both have 47% approval at this time of presidency, according to Rasmussen. Trump will also lose 60 seats in the House like Obama did during first midterm!” Drudge wrote on Twitter. (RELATED: Democrats Should Immediately Abolish ICE After Retaking Congress)

He added cryptically: “Unless…”

Democrats have to gain 23 House seats in November in order to flip the lower chamber. Democrats have an 83 percent chance of retaking the House, according to FiveThirty Eight.

Mark Taylor (The Trump Prophecies): Most Important Midterm Elections In All Of US History
July 30, 2018 29 3159

Mark Taylor says the upcoming 2018 elections are the most important mid-term elections in all of America’s history. Here’s why…

Mark Taylor interviewed by Greg Hunter on USA Watchdog

Mark Taylor, author of the popular book “The Trump Prophecies,” contends, “If you are part of the army of God, you need to be ready also because there are going to be politicians that are going to resign. We have had the biggest number of resignations probably in history. This midterm election is going to be huge. This is going to be a red tsunami. They keep talking about the blue wave. I think it’s going to be a blue drip, a leaky faucet, and that is all they are going to get. You have had more resignations than we have ever seen. Now is the time to go in and capture this ground and hold it for the Kingdom of God. . . . It’s not a left or right thing. God is moving us towards a place of righteousness. That’s what’s happening right now. So, he’s going to be replacing these people. If you are called to be a judge, senator, congressman or a council person, I don’t care what level local, state or federal, take your place and get ready. If you are in the Army of God and you don’t vote, you need to get off your behind and register to vote. These are going to be the most important midterm elections in America’s history—period.”

In closing, Taylor says, “I don’t think there is going to be another Democrat in the White House for a long time, if ever again. I believe you are seeing the death of the Democrat party right now.”

Join Greg Hunter as he goes One-on-One with Mark Taylor, co-author of “The Trump Prophecies,” which has been made into a movie that is releasing in early October.

Cruz v O’Rourke debate tonight for a Texas seat. O’Rourke has raised a record $38.1 million in three months. And is still behind in polls. Source.
Not mentioned in the article (CNN on in the break room and I heard about this and posted about it) but apparently democrats are urging people to donate to this race even if they’re from other states, instead of ones with larger margins. Like that Georgia special election, or even the Hillary campaign, maybe throwing boatloads of cash into a campaign where 90% of people have made up their minds is a waste.

Not too surprising. Love him or hate him Ted is a meme god online and gave his delegates to Hitler 2.0 Trump in 2016. The Dems want a nice big scalp like Cruz because he's so well known to the online obsessives who are all that are left of the left now.

The one thing Heitkamp had going for her was her likability, and that's going to take a big hit over this. She was already in dire straits before this, but this closes the door.

I was always taught to be distrustful of any poll with a sample size of under 1000. Bigger the sample is usually the better.
Bigger sample is obviously better than smaller, if everything else is equal.
But as long as you get at least 500+ sample size is fairly irrelevant compared to the importance of a representative sample.

An obvious example is that you'll most probably get a more representative result if you get 500 responses from just polling at random over the phone than if you ask 1000 people on the floor of the Democratic National Convention.

Facebook Deletes Disabled Veteran’s Page Without Warning — After Taking $300,000 for Ads
Kolfage-640x480.png

Brian Kolfage
16 Oct 201810901

4:21
Facebook blacklisted the conservative news page run by disabled Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage with no warning or explanation — after he reportedly spent more than $300,000 on Facebook advertising.

On his new website which aims to put an end to social media censorship, Air Force veteran and triple-amputee Brian Kolfage explains who he is and the challenges he’s facing stating: “I’m a veteran of The United States Air Force. I was severely wounded in Combat, on 9/11/2004 while serving in Iraq I lost both my legs entirely and my right hand. I’m the most severely wounded US Airman to survive.”

Kolfage continued: “I’m not a ‘conservative.’ I’m not a ‘liberal.’ I’m an American, with deep beliefs in what our country stands for. I proved this by vowing to protect and fighting for America greatest tenant: Free Speech. Many Americans have fought for these political freedoms … freedom of speech … and every American has enjoyed those freedoms… UNTIL TODAY. October 11th Facebook shut down thousands of Facebook accounts for their political opinions stating that they don’t have a ‘legitimate political argument’. STOP SOCIAL MEDIA CENSORSHIP NOW!”

Kolfage was the administrator of a number of Facebook pages, notably the pages Right Wing News and Military Grade Coffee, both of which were deleted recently as Facebook attempts to crack down on what it considers “misinformation” on the platform. Right Wing News had more than 3 million followers at the time of its blacklisting by Facebook.

In another Facebook post, Kolfage stated: “Facebook lied, they shut down my page because it was conservative, powerful, and the elections are in 2 weeks. We have MAJOR support flowing in all the way from the top of the Trump administration. Get ready!” Kolfage later said: “I’m not a ‘conservative.’ I’m not a ‘liberal.’ I’m an American, with deep beliefs in what our country stands for. I proved this by fighting for America, knowing I may not return home. My life was spared, but I paid for freedom with one arm and both my legs. I’ve given limbs, I’ve stared death in the face first hand. I’ve seen my legs blown to pieces and lost friends. Losing my limbs meant comparatively little to me because I gave it fighting for what I believed in; I believed America was the greatest country because we had freedom … and I’ve seen what oppression looks like. My sacrifices are nothing compared to what previous generations made in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.”

Kolfage stated that he has invested a large amount of money into Facebook’s advertising system and his pages are one of the key ways that he earns money to support his family: “My income as a father and husband is threatened. This isn’t the right to free speech I gave my legs and arm to defend. Three limbs wasn’t enough for some… now my livelihood is gone with it. Facebook took down our Facebook page, cutting off all contact we had with the millions of people who signed up to follow us, the millions of people who liked what we were sharing online. We had a coveted, verified blue check mark, 3.5 Million fans, and I invested over $300,000 in ads at Facebook’s own request, nearly begging us to spend spend spend just to reach our fans… whom they kept making more difficult to reach with every passing year.”

Kolfage’s other page, Military Grade Coffee, which sold coffee was also deleted: “Facebook also deleted my other business page. I own a coffee company called Military Grade Coffee Company [which donates 10% of all profits back to veteran organizations]. We don’t post politics, we sell coffee and support veteran charities. Facebook is maliciously attacking my way of life because of my beliefs, and they don’t care. The New York Times even stated that Facebook made this calculated move to silence thousands of voices (and millions of forwarded messages) because of the upcoming midterm elections.”

But Kolfage has no plans to quietly allow Facebook to delete the pages and work he has invested thousands of hours into. “If I have to roll into their headquarters and sit there with people in the media, I will,” said Kolfage. “I will be there exposing everything they’ve done to me and my family and our employees. We’re going to take legal action if we don’t get our pages back. It’s just going to turn into a sloppy mess for them. I think they’ve underestimated what they’re dealing with, attacking me, attacking conservatives in general, right before the elections. Never once did Facebook come to us to say there was any issue with RWN or our other pages. Never. But they sure loved taking our money.”

Breitbart News reached out to Facebook for comment on the deletion of Brian Kolfage’s pages but has yet to receive a response from the social media firm.

Usually I'd search for a better explanation than "just did it because we're right wing", but honestly, given the fact this is right before the midterms, this is pretty obvious timing.
If the website is anything to go by, the facebook would have been pretty stock standard facebook christian conservative schtick - lots of clickbatey Before It's News tier headlines, but nothing that the Huffpo or Buzzfeed isn't familiar with doing. I don't think it will effect their core base, but the timing is obvious to stop their "reach" before midterms. I know it's all "muh private company" shit, but pretty sad state of affairs if one side gets to shill lunacy and the other doesn't.

I think the best case scenario would be the Dems taking the House and the Repubs holding onto the Senate.
  • A good batch of lulz will be had when the House goes on their autistic screeching fits and they are shot down at every turn.
  • Trump will be able to scapegoat them in 2020 if things go to shit.

Is it just me, or are the Dem's really working overtime at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory this year?

For those not aware, the Dem Candidate for Georgia Governor is for the first time ever a Black Woman. She is also a Dem Socialist Progressive Whackjob who has sat in a racially gerrymandered safe state legislature seat and thrown identity politics bombs for years. But that was okay, as no one was listening to her then. Her GOP oponent is the current Georgia Secretary of State, who's job it is to oversee elections. Abrams has been using this as a club to beat him, and had been succesful at it. Claiming the States Enforcement of Laws to insure election integrity was "disenfranchising poor and minority voters". It was an effective line of attack... until she got on stage this weekend with Elizabeth Warren... and openly encouraged illegal aliens and the undocumented to form the backbone of the Blue Wave. Yep! She called for Illegals to vote her into office... thus fully validating her opponents reasonable and rational steps as Sec State to protect the Georgia Elections. Yeah this is going over real well down in Dixie. And you would not believe how much money the DNC and PACS have already poured into her race.

Ah, good. There might have been some people left un-alienated, better go swing for the fences and aim at "anybody who votes legally". It's a hard demographic to hit all at once but they just may have managed to do it.

Between this, McCaskill and Bredesen's flunkies getting caught on tape by Project Veritas, 'Microhontas' (LOL), and Heitkamp making a fool of herself... I really am wondering if a requirement for running as a Democrat isn't 'eat a barrel of paint chips' or something.

"Why doesn't the U.S. have a multiparty system!?" people keep asking.
a multi-party system wouldn't fix it anyway. fedoralord centrists think it's about not having enough options or the two parties being 'too extreme' (which just proves how little they understand about politics)

the true problem is that the parties are beholden to (most of) the same corporate interests that keep them on a leash. the publicly displayed differences are reflective of the differences in values between the common american people, but the politicians themselves don't actually care about any of that stuff. abortion, guns, you name it, that's all a show to keep people voting. the real constituency they serve consists of corporate donors and special interest lobbies. as long as this is true and possible, you could have ten parties or a hundred parties: if they can all be co-opted by corporate money, nothing they say for the cameras matters one iota

want to fix the US political system? make all forms of lobbying punishable with severe penalties and force corporate and special interest lobbyists to do their advocacy out in the open where everyone can see it with transparency

but that will never happen because it would end the gravy train.

Democrats believe everything currently going well is because fucking Obama, and Trump is just riding the coattails. Yet if things go to shit, you bet they'll blame Trump, just like they blamed Bush after the market crashed a year after they took power in 2007. Of course, I'd rather see Congress in its entirety retain a Republican majority, and frankly more seats, but imagine their autistic screeching if Trump decides to bypass the House like Obama did constantly.

And also because you have a constitutional right to interact with your representative.s

lol just ban money u guys then no one will be greedy
'i' am not the same thing as a think tank or special interest group or union or corporation, or some other legal entity that gets to behave as though it is an individual person

yes, that's currently the law, but it's a problem

This is really hard for me to say, because I've always said I don't want to see a one-party system. One party systems that exist for more than a brief duration are a very bad thing, historically.

That said.

Fuck the current Democrat party. I hope they get drove into the ground, hard.

They deserve nothing, and have proven they aren't to be trusted with anything more dangerous than the lint harvested from their own belly buttons.

When they grow up and stop acting like retarded baboons on meth, then they can try again.

Earlier in this thread I predicted that the senate would be 52R-48D and a democrat majority in the house but I'm starting to think I was wrong. As of now I'm going to call it 55R-45D senate and a narrow republican majority in the house. It seems like the democrats are doing everything they can to lose.
