US 2022 Mid-Term Election

I know it's still a fog of war period, but it's astounding that so much of this will remain undecided for days, if not weeks at a time. I can only really describe this as increased balkanization, and worry that the next two years will be utter Hell on Earth if you're not living in a deep red state. I hope I'm wrong.

Spergy PL: New York Kiwi here, I think we had a bit of 'tism about maybe Zeldin winning NY, but it wasn't likely realistically. Hochul never was actually elected governor before, she just was thrown in when Cuomo got ousted, and she generally seems more palpable than Cuomo was. So while there was a last-minute Republican surge here, I can't say that it's shocking she won. If Cuomo won the first time around, she'd win pretty easily.

She and her campaign really did seem to shit themselves towards the end though, so I know she got a bit spooked, which is good to see.

Wisconsin locked its shit down after 2020, and hard. Thanks to their state Supreme Court and a push for a few bills from a very red legislature that Evers did not dare veto. Sadly, that decision is probably what saved Evers his job.

There's a phenomenon in Los Angeles (where there are literally no Republican politicians) where everyone blames everything on Republicans, so the city just becomes more blue, and the problems just get worse, and everyone hates Republicans even more.

That’s the thing though, says fucking who that states like NY and Michigan were supposed to be “decisive victories” for the R’s? Anyone with a brain would know that those races were at best within the realm of possibility. And the fact that we can even have a serious consideration that NY might get a Republican governer is ALREADY a massive step up from the previous status quo.

If you’re disappointed that you didn’t get the fantasy best-case scenario sold to you by grifting right-wing pundits, then you deserve to feel like a loser right now.

Never forget the large amount of Americans that supported lockdowns and draconian restrictions. There were people who got off on denying people entry to events and places because they weren't vaxxed or masked up.

Don't forget that these people tend to either work government jobs or corporate jobs where they got to stay home and practice yoga for a couple of weeks.

They love to call you selfish and evil and say you're killing grandma even saying proudly "I will not attend Thanksgiving to my trump loving relative's who refuse to get vaccinated and I also care more about the pandemic and others." When you go to places in the north east, and the left coasts these guys think climate change is so bad that we need to stop oil hands down.

I can't wait for another revolution to be honest.

I think this is the most concerning thing for me. Despite democrats fucking up as horrifically as they have, blue states are still solid blue. Red states that were wishy washy before are now solid red. In spite of the immense happenings nothing has changed other than people digging their heels in harder. Neither side is willing to concede an inch. Balkanization/civil war is all but inevitable at this point, it's just a matter of when and how explosive it will be.
 
With about 1/3 of the votes in, Newsom looks like he will be governor of California again (so far he has a 1 million vote lead), which isn't surprising given the voting makeup of California in general and the power of the cities there. Californians in general seem to be generally ignorant about the policies their governor enacts that hurts them - Bay Area Californians seem to be intentionally ignorant.
 
Mayra Flores, after winning a special election, now appears to have lost in the general. 😩
