Updating the CWCki

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
What is that poll at the top all about? At a glance it looks like it hasn't been relevant since that time Chris got blocked by all those MLP voice actors.

It's from another thread that was merged into this one years ago.

edit: Took down the poll. Final results attached.

That's grim, why don't they ask for help here? This site was born from the cwcki itself, I don't see Null being against it.
Running the farms is expensive by itself, and I think donations are barely holding it up. Not to mention, the CWCki is no longer affiliated with Kiwi Farms or 1776 hosting.

I don't think this is an issue with funding, I think they just forgot to renew the domain.

CWCki appears to be down again, this is what I got using Brave on mobile with a VPN:
Yep. Ended up coming here to see if anyone knew why. Ended up reading about Hasan instead. Was not disappointed. God I love kiwifarms.
And we're back, I can access it on computer + phone now.

CWCki admins/owners, don't be shy about asking for help on here. We all appreciate what you do for this community.

This is something I knew about for awhile but it hadn’t crossed my mind to bring this up until now.

There was a very short-lived podcast called The CWCville Podcast hosted by Dillin Thomas and Rogue, Internet Man which can now only be found on the Internet Archive. There was one episode in which Chris himself showed up in the chat, and said that George Floyd and Harambe were both in C-197 (LOL).

This was from either December 23rd or 24th 2020 because Chris was still identifying as Sonichu, and Dillin flashed a few videos, one being this YellowFlash vid that had been uploaded 11 hours earlier.

And the video was uploaded on December 23rd.

The episode:

I don't know if this information is mentioned in the wiki, but I found it interesting. The artist, HarryManzinni, claims to have interacted with Chris via email around the characters in issue 10 of the Sonichu comic. Perhaps we could try to contact her, so that she can divulge the brief discussions she had with Chris at the time.

I'll note that the CWCki has been sporadic for me. Sometimes, it loads just fine. Some other times, it takes minutes to load the homepage. And at least a few times, it gave me a nginx "page is currently unavailable" error:

Do note that while here I am using Tor, when trying to load the homepage not on Tor but standard Firefox, it took nearly two and a half minutes for the page to load, and then when I decided to reload the page, I got the same nginx error:

@Marvin is there a DDoS attack happening to the CWCki or something? Because there's something happening at the CWCki that's making it, at best, perform fine for a short while, and at worst, give me that error, even after refreshing a few times.

No clue, I'll take a look in the morning.

Uhh, I just remembered this. Anyway, looking into it, no clue if there's anything specifically causing it. But we are pushing our limits. I'm going to upgrade our CPU and memory and maybe that'll help.

Yep, and with more CPU and ram. Hopefully it'll run better.
Can also confirm that the site is running just fine for me. In fact, right now it's running pretty damn great, with pages loading pretty fast.

:semperfidelis:for Marvin. The CWCki is one of my favorite sites to browse when I want some online reading material, and it's good to see him willing to make changes, including ones which might cost some money, to ensure the site runs as well as possible. Knowing of some other wiki sysops, where you're wondering how in the fuck the wiki they own or manage hasn't gone under yet, it's refreshing to see.

Lol I'm a drunk. I keep the site running. I also have regular full backups to an offsite NAS. The zombie apocalypse would need to get super particular to kill the cwcki.

But yeah we're good.
