Actually, the most interesting thing about Chris comparing his... fluids to chicken is the way he writes it. I'm inclined to think most people would just say 'grilled chicken,' but Chris puts 'chicken (grilled).' Now obviously we all know what he meant, but it's still an odd way to phrase it, almost as if the grilled part were an afterthought. I don't know, it just kind of stuck out for me.

As for Chris' knowledge of the opera, I don't think it's all that extensive. Remember that OKCupid gives you multiple choices. Chris likely picked that one to give the impression he likes opera, or at least music. It's quite possible that he doesn't know who Plácido Domingo or José Carreras even are! In fact, considering his track record for knowing jack shit about most celebrities, I'm inclined to say it's pretty likely. Still, if it was an OKCupid template answer, how ironic that he would have two Spaniards to pick from, given his frequent butchering of the Spanish language.

Of course, it's possible that some of Bob's appreciation for music did get through Chris' thick skull, though unlikely given how genuinely ignorant Chris is of the world (if and how decidedly unsubtle he is about every other aspect of his life. I'd think we'd have seen some sign of any interest in opera or musicals before. Besides, I though Bob was mostly into jazz, though some people seem to suggest 'world music' (which conjures a hilarious mental image of classic Chris dancing about to the likes of Shizuko Kasagi, Mory Kanté, Taraf de Haïdouks, Miriam Makeba, Yma Sumac, Mahi Beamer, Bob Marley, King Sunny Adé, Ravi Shankar, and of course William Onyeabor ;))

I believe Chris once mentioned he likes jug bands and skiffle bands? To be honest, I didn't even know what those were until I looked them up, so clearly Bob's music appreciation did something for Chris, in the form of teaching him two now-obscure genres to say when he needs to show eclecticism.

The term "world music" frustrates me though. The hell does that mean? Music made within the world? I think most music qualifies for that, except that one album of field recordings of the interaction between the solar wind and the magnetosphere of various planets and moons. Just call it "African music" or "Caribbean music" or "Inuit music" or whatever else it is.

Agreed. I just looked that question up and the other answers were "say 'I've never been before, but fun!'", "go along to avoid hurting your date's feelings", and "develop a sudden, severe case of the flu".

Granted those options are probably more true than the one Chris chose, but all he did was choose the option that is closest to "I like opera".

Which would you rather choose: peace on Earth or loads of money?

Hence in my views, I think its best for Chris not to get one. I can't imagine him suffering the permanent aftereffects from a sex change. Its rather terrifying than it is funny though there's the funny part involved.

The surgeons I know who do SRS wouldn't touch Chris with a ten foot pole, and this is a good thing. The health requirements for SRS can be pretty intense. I've seen surgeons deny patients for things like being overweight, high blood pressure, and asthma.

I'm honestly more worried about the hormones, when it comes to Chris. I'm kind of two-sided about the whole thing though. Accessing grey market hormones can be a life-changing thing for people who live in backwards areas and cannot get a legit prescription (the vast majority of doctors out there like to cite a moral objection to providing cross-hormone therapy), BUT, and it's a huge BUT, it's something you need to go into with both eyes wide open, with a realistic view on the effects and possible harm.

I can see Chris ordering a bunch of birth control pills from India coz hey it's cheap, then turning around and causing himself some severe liver damage as a result.

I am somewhat hopeful about that. It seems that Chris view of sex and gender is such that he thinks that the only thing that makes him a male is his duck. I am not sure he would see the point of things like hormone therapy that don't involve losing the duck.

And there are all kinds of barriers to Chris actually getting surgery, so it seems unlikely.

I would assume that his gender issues will be manifested only in him dressing like an old lady for a period of time. I'm not sure if that will be a year or two, a decade, or the rest of his life, but I doubt he will go beyond that.

In his mind, taking hormones might actually be something you only have to do when you're not already a TRUE and HONEST woman at heart.
So basically, Chris can skip the whole hormone-therapy related stuff since he's mentally a female.

This is mostly on target. Chris' understanding of hormone therapy is that he thinks it'll be required at some point in the process, so that's why he would be pursuing hormones. But yeah, he doesn't understand where his body varies from a typical female body. All Chris sees are boobs and vagina. Anything else is too subtle for Chris to notice.

Well he's got a pretty massive rack already so once he lopes off the ole one eyed willy he's almost home.

Of course if he thought finding a sweetheart was tuff as a cis-het male...

I thought there were extensive psychiatric evaluations as well as part of the process.

The whole "lesbian soul" thing could, in part, be some sort of coping mechanism to help Chris deal with the fact that he can't afford gender reassignment surgery.

Still, you'd think he'd put a little more effort into cultivating a more feminine appearance: getting rid of the 5 o'clock shadow, properly washing and conditioning [what's left of] his hair, and not dressing like a bag lady would help.

He should spend some of his Lego money on a better wardrobe. (Then again, he's probably getting his fashion tips from Barb.)

Ohh, there are, it's all part and parcel. It starts with the therapist, who sends you to the psych doc, who OKs an endocrinologist, who OKs the surgeon, who does his own medical checks.

Bout a decade back or so, there were a few therapists who tried to pull the "one stop shop" for transition. You saw that therapist, who rubberstamped a GID diagnosis, who'd send you to "her" specialists to get hormones, "her" surgeon. Walk in, two months later walk out a whole new you. Thankfully, they got nailed by licensing boards before someone like Chris found them.

There are. There are also considerable physical risks as well.

I have a friend that went the female-to-male route. He had to walk with a cane about 6 months after the surgery, and now has to use a walker. There were issues with his immune system and nervous system damage.

I don't know, he might be reading/seeing stuff about women being able to dress however they want and thinks "passing" is bad. Or maybe he doesn't feel the need to be fully female in terms of wardrobe because of the lesbian soul? Someone made an edit of what Chris could "pass" as if he really tried, and it looks much more feminine.

Chris' fashion sense as a man could be described as "ridiculous" at best. Why would it be any different now he identifies as a woman?

Like music and videogames, I'm guessing he has no discerning tastes regarding fashion. I doubt he's ever seen a nicely dressed woman on TV and thought "she looks nice, I'll have to hunt down that outfit". To him it's all the same. A knitted cat sweater from Goodwill is just as good as a Chanel suit as long as it falls under the banner of "woman's clothing". He still get's to live out his fantasy of being a woman (in the same way a child pretends to be Spider-man in a halloween costume), the only difference is the Goodwill sweater is a lot cheaper than the Chanel (and doesn't have "a cute widdle kitty cat" on it).

You lie! Walking through a shopping center and harassing people doesn't count as a proper walk... And going to fast food places/ eating shitty food makes what little walking you do completely pointless.

I'm sure he thinks he is. Buuuuuut... Chris also used to have to look in the mirror so he could remember his own face, combine that with his general inability to understand the thoughts of others and you have a Tomgirl.
