Outbreak of the PLAGUE kills at least 24 people and forces government to BAN public gatherings in Madagascar to halt the spread

The World Health Organisation said Sunday it was boosting its response to the plague outbreak in Madagascar that has killed 24 people, as the government banned public meetings to reduce infections.

In a televised address Saturday, Prime Minister Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana said no public meetings or demonstrations would be allowed in the capital Antananarivo, which has seen six deaths in recent days.

After chairing a meeting with the UN health agency, he said: 'At airports and bus stations, measures will be taken for passengers to avoid panic and to control the disease.'

Madagascar has suffered plague outbreaks almost every year since 1980, often sparked by rats fleeing forest fires, but this disease is also spread person-to-person and around 100 people are thought to be infected.

The outbreak is a mix of bubonic plague, which spreads by infected rats via flea bites, and pneumonic plague spread person-to-person.

Just to point out, at 19 people dead was when Madagascar appealed for public help from the UN.

This makes me curious, was the Madagascar behavior in Plague Inc actually intentional? That would be a really cool little addition if it was.
The meme predates Plague Inc by about 4 years.

I haven't played Plague Inc, but in Pandemic 2 (which was the origin of the meme), Madagascar was the only island without an airport, so as soon as they shut down the shipyards (which often happened quite early), they were isolated and therefore safe until the end of the game: https://img00.deviantart.net/2140/i/2011/060/b/8/pandemic_2_map_by_norm93-d3anwk7.png So in that game, it was simply just an emergent behavior.

Madagascar is never the problem, it is always Iceland or Greenland. At least in Plague Inc. For the same reason as Madagascar in Pandemic.

Sure has been a lot of biblical type stuff happening recently. I'm just waiting for a two headed dragon to rise up out of the sea

That's not an "unknown" plague. That's the most well known plague of all time.

Yeah, Madagascar is nowhere near as bad in Plague Inc as they were in Pandemic 2, since in Pandemic they only had the port, no land barrier.

Madagascar is totally fine. It's fucking Greenland that is the shit country in Plague Inc. I have lost count of the number of times I have failed to eradicate the human race solely because some primate vermin survived in Greenland.

(Max out Cold Resistance and max animal transmission vectors so it crosses over even after the filthy humans stop air and sea travel.)

Holy fuck. I didn't think there was anywhere that had "regular outbreaks" of any kind of plague since the middle ages.

Edit: as common as it is you'd think they'd be experts at dealing with it by now.

By the end of my interest in the Plague Inc I was just starting my plague in Greenland half the time, because as tedious a starting point as it was and even though it made the early game harder, I lost so many times because of Greenland that I started wanting to actively destroy them first out of spite.

Infecting Iceland and Greenland in Plague Inc is nowhere near as hard as infecting Madagascar in Pandemic
