I'm sure someone's asked, but is Nick the TRUE & HONEST spiritual successor to Terry Davis? They're both intelligent, they both got some mental problems, they both have a magnum opus passion project they dedicated their lives for, and they're both cows who many people have respect for. Granted, one of them hasn't contributed to the english language yet, but still. Is Uli /ourterry/ bros?

Ulillillia isn't as mentally ill as Terry and will never have a quote as memorable as glow in the dark CIA niggers, but that's ok because he's still extremely talented and interesting.
 
I've had a major soft spot for Ulillillia ever since his Platform Masters days. Something about a lovable, harmless self-documenting weirdo making a digital equivalent of the Winchester House hit me in the feels just right. Even bought his two books to support him.

Lot10EM certainly isn't "good" in any conventional sense, but I'll be damned if it isn't a House-of-Leaves kind of fascinating (hair colors described using CSS colors, anyone?). Haven't read Secret in the Basement yet.

Uli has a lot of obsessive-compulsive quirks and phobias to the point of being nearly crippled by them at times, but he isn't delusional. He knows what reality is. Terry spent a lot of time on the dark side of the moon.
 
Terry was ok (and also very quotable) but people also kinda whitewash terry a little bit and I think sometimes they forget just how batshit insane he was. What was most striking about terry were the moments of sanity that sometimes came through, especially when he talked about technical topics. He was seriously ill and most of all really needed his meds. Fuck those people who bought him a drum-kit forever.

I've been following Ulillillia for a very long time and I can also tell you that guy isn't a genius but he enjoys being seen that way. A lot of the stuff he said over the years about mathematics and physics doesn't make any fucking sense. It's a bit like when Data/Spock (or their modern equivalents in modern star trek; I don't know them as I am not a gay man) encountered the monster of the week and calculated the chance for the intrepid crew to survive by 79,991 to 1. Numbers pulled out of the arse. He's a big fan of being that archetype. Ulillillia is mostly really, really strange and like many lolcows also a victim of terrible parents who preferred to pretend his disability isn't there. Unlike lolcows he did some serious work on himself and recognized his problems though, which puts him way beyond any place any lolcow will ever go.

I don't know who you've been talking to, but I have never heard anyone talk about Terry without describing him as completely fucking off his gourd. You can appreciate his genius and his hard work while also recognizing that the man had a fire ant colony in his brain.

To be fair, Terry wasn't really a programming superstar like people make him out to be either.

I finally got my legal name changed! It's been 6 years in the making, riddled with delays and close calls, but it's finally happened and I have the legal papers to go with it. I was Nick Smith before, but now, I'm officially Ryan Evan Kadrian. Ryan is my top favorite name, Evan is my third favorite (second is Melissa), and Adrian is my fifth (fourth is Karen). I added a twist of putting a K in front and a pronunciation change.
This opens up another avenue - I can get my passport, but that will have to wait until I have the number 1 thing on my life's wishlist first - financial stability. Finishing and releasing Baricanna should do that.

I did like the plain austerity of Nick Smith though. Not sure what the new name achieves.
