Destigmatising mental illness was a mistake.
Even worse, they're a bunch of retarded children
pretending to have DID while describing things that have absolutely nothing to do with DID at all, because all they know is a tumblrified version of the made-up movie version. People with
actual DID do not have quirky alternate personalities, to them they just black out and suddenly they're hours ahead in the middle of doing something else, like they just went on autopilot while asleep, which leads to many of them initially assuming they're having seizures. It's a very rare disorder resulting from severe trauma during childhood.
Meanwhile you have 14-year-old twittertards going "Oh nooooo I'm chaaaaanging personalities!!! agsjdvsidysobdkdhdid" and shaking their head back and forth performatively like they're "going crazy" before talking in a silly voice and saying they're an "alter" whose personality is "an age-regressed version of my favorite minecraft youtuber and also gay", and every time they send a message online they spam it with some emoji they've chosen so you know the "alter" sent it.
This shit is just some disrespectful "I'm so quirky XD" trend version of a real mental illness they know nothing about (and they get severely offended when called out on it being fake), and it harms people suffering from the real version because it's muddied the waters regarding information about it and contributed to discourse over it not being real at all. It's like what that brony wikipedia user did with the scots language, except even worse because it's about the mental disability people get from being sexually assaulted as a child. Most trends like this are prime lolcow material that make me laugh my ass off because of how retarded the people following it act, but this is the only one that makes me genuinely MATI every time I see it.
