I'm mildly addicted to TvTropes. I feel that the site was a fair bit more interesting when there were TroperTales pages and huge, branching topics related to just about everything for examples. Sure, most of it was derpy as hell, but I graded it on the grounds of personal entertainment over factual value.

That said, the 'community' is a seething pool of primordial autism.

Not gonna lie, I didn't even know TVT forums/communities existed prior to this thread.

Oh man, I remember Troper Tales. Some of them got really creepy, especially the ones on the Fetish Fuel pages. Even so, I was disappointed when they took them down. There were lots of "interesting" stories, for the lack of a better word.

There was one on "Yandere" about a guy who kept on trying to kill a girl's unborn baby after she rejected him, and how he fantasizes about murdering pregnant women.
Fucking tropers, man...

Scratch that, "horrifying" is a better word. This also makes the fact that the forums are now overtaken by SJWs even funnier.

It was probably just an overweight neckbeard trying to be edgy but still...christ...

Yeah, that is the first thing that popped in my head when I read that. It was written by a troper after all

I've probably been to the forums like...three times, and that was years ago. The pages themselves are the only things that interest me, so I had no idea the forums were this bad.

While I find most of the pages entertaining and informative, I'll occasionally come across something cringeworthy and it's obvious that whoever wrote it had no idea what they were talking about. The most recent case for me was this bit in the Dethroning Moment of Suck page:
Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It's a reasonably good piece of fiction in general if a bit contrived. I cannot help but to be annoyed that the author has written in such a way that he seems to have a raging hate-boner for ugly people. The antagonist Chillingworth does objectively good things: He gains great medical knowledge from the indians at considerable personal risk and uses it for the benefit of the community. When Chillingworth comes home to see his wife (and indirectly himself) publicly shamed, he comforts Hester, medicates her and her daughter and mostly blames himself for his wife's infidelity. He helps Dimmesdale medically and emotionally by correctly insisting that Dimmesdale will never fully recover until he relieves himself of whatever is weighing his heart. Despite these good acts, the Puritans of Boston seem ungrateful for having a man who has put so much effort into becoming a great doctor for them and seem to interpret everything he does in the worst possible light. Everyone, including the narrator and Chillingworth himself assumes that he is doing everything for the very worst of reasons -because Chillingworth is ugly. Just to hammer in his badness the narrator makes Chillingworth ugly and uglier as the story goes on. The reader finds him/herself asking "what can an ugly person do that counts as a good deed to you, Nathaniel Hawthorne?" The dethroning moment of suck occurs when that question is answered near the end of the book. Chillingworth dies and leaves his great fortune (that we never heard of before apparently Chillingworth choose to live an austere life despite being rich) to the cute child Pearl -though he knows it is not his daughter. The author claims this was his only good deed. The author has answered: "Die! and leave his money to a beautiful person. That's the only good thing an ugly person can do because the only good ugly person is a dead ugly person!" Cue Evil laugh. Scarlett Letter; hate speech against ugly people.
Um...is this person not aware of what "symbolism" means? They make it sound as though Hawthorne was literally saying all ugly people are evil.

Welp, sounds like some high-school aged Tumblrina got forced to read some triggering literature during English class. I can't tell if this person is genuinely terrible at interpreting the story or if they are just really trying to miss the point on purpose because "HURRR! This story is boring and I hate my teacher for making me read it! Fuck you, Nathaniel Hawthorne! I'll show you what's what!"

For people so obsessed with the elements that comprise a narrative, storytelling and general media they sure are really dense when it comes narrative, storytelling, and general media.

Mister, you're a better man than I.

Also the fact that SA and TVTropes threw bitch fits at one another doesn't surprise me that much, considering both sites have some of the "lowest of the low" kind of users on there.

One site gave us ThisTroper series and the other gave us swap.avi

I don't know what "swap.avi" is but the ThisTroper series is hilarious. I'm somewhat sad that they took down the Troper Tales pages, because those were basically lolcow meeting grounds, but what can you do.

Swap.avi is a shock video. I don't watch shock videos, but apparently it's one of the most infamously nasty out there. As in 'people who watch shock videos for amusement will tell you not to look it up' level of unfiltered nasty. But I'll happily admit that my info is entirely from third party sources in this case.

Oh, in that case I will have to stay away. I guess that it is fitting that something awful came from, well, SomethingAwful.

The Dethroning Moment entries are hilarious. We could have an entire thread dedicated to them alone.
