Eh, actually the "Disco Sucks" crowd was largely the result of both corporate astroturfing and teenagers (Late Boomers and older Early Gen X'ers) who were too young to get into the clubs or bars and not getting the appeal of it.
The record industry was focused more on full-length album sales in the 70's and disco was a very singles-driven genre because that's a lot more amenable for a DJ in a club.
