It existed until one day in June when some guy (TVT regulars think the person was from Fuck No TV Tropes, an SJW Tumblr blog, although FNTT denies it) decided to report the Nunnery to Google for violating Google's community standards. Under the threat of having all of TVT's precious ad bucks disappear, Fast Eddie quickly caved and nuked the entire thread. The Nunnery was, uh, beloved to a disconcertingly large proportion of users, who proceeded to passive-aggressively bitch about it for many months afterward.
Huh. Interesting. And not in a good way, Which reminds, didn't Tv Tropes get rid of pages about hentai (I forgot why) a long time ago?

FNTT is right about a lot of users and the general community being terrible people, just usually for the wrong reasons.

FNTVT tends to be rather accurate about how fucked up the troping community gets, but the rest of their content is SJW bullshit.

They were torched for ad money. The Nunnery survived since the censors were only getting pissed about the wiki side of things, until someone ratted out TVT's secret.

It used to be named the Sex /Fetish thread or something, but was renamed in an apparent attempt to dodge Google censorship.

I wouldn't say "terrible" people so much as "stupid" people. How terrible a person are you if the worst you get is just sperging about your favorite media?

Well, except for the perverts on the site.

This was a part of an attempt to make the site more "family-friendly" (again to avoid the ire of Google's censors). At the same time Fast Eddie started a campaign to remove all works that could be construed as pedophilic by Google; some reasonable like Kodomo no Jikan, and some... not, like Lolita. There was a massive backlash from tropers who whined about freeze peach. It caused a big schism in the community, and many users moved to alternative sites like All the Tropes.

OT but could you please stop putting every sentence in italics? It's annoying.

At least it's a mildly amusing reference to the "get thee to a nunnery" meaning of the word, I'd guess.

A fun thing: Look up 'Troper Works' on tv tropes, try to find one that isn't un-finished, abandoned, or non-existant past the trope page

I get a real kick out of going to any page for a piece of fiction written for children and looking through the Nightmare Fuel subpage. The Thomas the Tank Engine one is so frigging long.

It's on par with those fan wikis where zealous spergs feel the urge to dissertate the complexity of a Super Mario character.

The Nightmare Fuel Pages are hilarious, especially on topics like Tomodachi Life and, like you mentioned, Thomas the Tank Engine. Seriously these people get scared over the dumbest things.

Oh agreed, the nightmare fuel pages are an untapped goldmine of lulz.

I actually forgot that they had threads. I usually just waste time surfing the trope pages when i don't want to play something on steam or when i don't want to play Fire Emblem.

it is HEAVILY IMPLIED that sir topham hatt rapes the trains every night [Citation to a quote from the show taken completly out of context.]

I think the So Bad, It's Horrible pages should get mentioned here.

They at least take pains to make sure that the stuff they mention genuinely is that bad. They take in ratings on other sites, whether it has a fandom or not, and so on; and they'll remove something if it fits any of those qualifications.
