Hello there. I see that earlier in this discussion, several of my posts regarding the forums of TV Tropes were mentioned, so I decided to make an account here.

On another note, apparently, they think that The Fly (1986) is a metaphor for toxic masculinity. To quote the YMMV page (they took down the analysis because even they thought it was a stretch):

"The concept of "toxic masculinity" only came to the fore in TheNewTens, but it's another way to perceive Seth's transformation. In the beginning he's sweet, shy, respectful -- definitely a better match for Ronnie than Stathis, who stalks her and abuses his position as her editor (Cronenberg notes in the DVD commentary that the film was made a few years before workplace sexual harassment became a mainstream topic of discussion) in hopes of restarting their romantic relationship. ''After'' Seth begins taking on a fly's instinct-driven nature and form he becomes ''incredibly'' virile, hairier (when Veronica first points out the odd hairs growing from his back injury, he says he's "been looking forward to a hairy body" and was "too boyish" before), emotionally unstable and even violent, and -- despite his desire to protect her upon realizing what's actually happening -- eventually attempts to spoiler: forcibly merge himself with her and her unborn child, with his final transformation into the monstrous Brundlefly triggered when she accidentally rips off his jaw while trying to flee. "
 
Largely agreed. One point that I feel I must make about it, though: Stathis is ultimately shown to care. He goes back to try to save Veronica. He sucks at it, but it kind of invalidates the whole 'toxic masculinity' BS in itself.

Most of Cronenberg is about sex and body horror, mind/body duality and other such philosophical bullshit, but none of it is wokeshit.
 
You copy an official source and it's still an official source. Dictator for Life Fighteer's only saying that because he doesn't want to be held rightly accountable for his shitty actions. What a cow. By his logic, you can't convict a pedophile of possessing child porn because the copy you have as evidence isn't an official source.
