TVTropes is when you get brain dribbling retards with a subzero IQ and zero world experience trying to be scholars on shit like Channel Awesome and how the latest popcorn flick align with their political extremism. It breeds stupidity and produces an echo chamber of the biggest proportion. To say that these drones are ethnocentric is the biggest understatement of the century. I would tell them that they should learn to code, but I doubt they would understand how to. They are useless garbage who have permanently crippled themselves with a poisonous ideology that only encourages them to stew in their own failure. They can't see their own ass because they are self-righteous assholes who describe themselves as their ideological enemy. When you call merit based egalitarianism evil and disturbing, you are lost.

And you have described one of the primary reason I helped make a fork of TV Tropes.

One of the major bones of contention I and my colleagues had with TV Tropes is that me, Bob Schroeck (Looney Toons) and Brent Laabs (Labster) have actual writer's credentials in some form and it was disgusting us more than a little how the putative mission of TV Tropes had drifted farther and farther away from it's writing mission and further into the quicksands of political and social demagoguery.

We lay the genesis of the problem at three things:


1. The forums became the tail wagging the dog - TV Tropes' forums have become a law unto themselves to the point it's not uncommon for users of the wiki to remain utterly ignorant of what is done on the forums until an administrative on the forums is suddenly implemented on the wiki, and it was getting to the point it getting tedious and disruptive to the harmony of the site as a whole.

2. Lowest common denominator pandering to all sorts of crap might have built up a large userbase, but not curating out the most cancerous autism and enforcing site policy and goals more effectively led to the more messed up autists running the asylum.

3. It became less about the mission of the community and more about the goals of the owner, which is why we all had a massive grievance against Fast Eddie. We might be the founders, but that never makes us gods, and we are just as responsible as the rest of the community for how the website is perceived and how it conducts itself for the public to see us as.


I will not be arrogant enough to claim we are better than TV Tropes, that's a judgment I leave others less biased to decide, but a lot of criticism levied against them we decided to pay attention to even if not every one was agreed with, and we decided to make changes to become a less a circlejerk and more about actual writing and the tropes said writing uses in media.

The thing about Geth's websites is that while he (tries) to keep the 'tism contained and he has quite a few regulars on them. The problem is that there isn't a lot of casual discussion on them. Of course there's The Drunkard's Walk, but I haven't gotten around to scoping that place out.
 
One thing I can definitely commend Geth for is that from what I can tell he and his compadres have managed to keep ATT from turning into a right wing hugbox mirror image of TTs left wing hugbox.

Although on the other hand I would enjoy laughing at the tism of a Gab/KIA version of TVTropes

While I wouldn't want to start such a tire fire, watching it burn would be hilarious.

I feel I should explain there is a good reason we at ATT worked out a truce with TVT very quickly, especially because that would have been one of the outcomes if we hadn't.

We just wanted to do our own thing, but even before Fast Eddie handed thing over to Drew Schoentrup, we knew we'd be accused of encouraging mischief on TVT if we didn't make clear we had no stomach for that, and that crazy bastard Nate Spidgewood rankled us both, and having to deal with that asshole made clear to me neither of our sites needed that kind of drama, and they agreed with my desire to find a modus vivendi where we agreed to clamp down on autists mutually annoying us and to agree on basic ground rules to respect our differing copyright situations that would avoid legal shit neither of us wanted.

Hence our cordial relationship where we agree not to encourage making the other guy's life harder.

I only now come back here to see what fun I missed in these last months and I only have this to say... Why am I am surprised that there are actual people on that fucking site defending this obvious example of the worst humanity can offer?! At all??! It's like they enjoy being a worse place to visit than 4/8/whatever-else-chan these days. Thanks as usual for reminding me to stay away, SJWs.

It's not as though you don't find people arguing for more sympathetic interpretations of Caliban in academic studies of Shakespeare.

Yeah, but this also ignores the fact that Prospero’s poor treatment of Caliban stems partially from the fact that he tried to rape his daughter Miranda, which Miranda herself confirms. There’s also the time he plotted to get rid of Prospero with a new master who would treat him exactly like Prospero but would give him alcohol.

Just because they can do it doesn’t mean it agrees with the text. A text can say whatever you want it to if you look at it the right way.
