TvTropes has an "advice" page called "So You Want To Be a Caustic Critic." Naturally, they list Nostalgia Critic and all of (what used to be) That Guy With the Glasses:

They also have a So You Want to be the Next JRR Tolkien page, appropriately dripping with smugness. Because fat neckbeards who fap to cartoon ponies are totally the kind of person I'd trust to teach me how to write an epic fantasy best-seller.

If you think the scene from Tropic thunder is weird just look at this as a unintentional period piece https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Trivia/NineEleven
Apparently a documentary about 9/11 shown in 2002 with real footage and real interviews with the people involved is an unintentional period piece.I always assumed real life footage would be exempt from the category because its real life of course the images will be dated to a certain point in time.No one is gonna look at footage of 9/11 and not realise its dated in some form.By this logic anything that features real images from just a few hours ago is an unintentional period piece.Honestly i always found the trope to be kind of dumb to begin with since its just an excuse to look for any obscure thing that was a reality at the time and latch onto it 'the character likes the Backstreet boys which immediately dates it to the late 90's'.Funny thing is the trope as 'designed' was supposed to be restricted to fictional works that are so obviously tied to their era by trying to ape the latest trend to seem hip that they ended up dated badly within a few years and seem almost like a parody of the 'era' if viewed 10-20 years later.I don't see how real footage of people on 9/11 can fall in that trope unless tropers assume real life is a parody as well.

Because 9/11 was filmed in a studio (directed by Michael Bay) so it's by default period piece fiction?

Uh... tropic thunder killed the use of "Re tard"? Was the movie even that popular?

Also, don't they realize how fucking NPC that is of them. "This word was ok then society decided it wasn't so now it's not ok and you're bad for saying it, unlike before when it was fun and ok"

It's as offensive as it ever was. That's the fucking point, you're saying someone is acting so stupid you're beginning to suspect their brain is broken.

As seen on this site with Exceptional Individual, the word itself has nothing to do with it. If we call them morons, stupid people get called morons. We call them idiots, stupid people get called idiots. Call them "Persons of diminished intellect" and get called a retard.

The whole point of the joke was that it's offensive. And that Hollywood depictions of tards are utter bullshit. You never have some spastic banging his head against a wall for two hours or some raging autist watching TV for half the movie then chimping out and smashing up the house when My Little Pony gets cancelled.

Ive never played RD, or even Path of Radiance, but hwat?

Translation: the troper was once on a forum where like, 2 users held this view and they were epically slammed-dunked by all the woke fans who were Totally Not Yaoi Fangirls, guys, seriously.

Joking aside, I can kinda see the argument here, because both rabid fans and anti-fans are equally annoying. Still, I doubt the fans who hold these "homophobic" views are such a widespread problem, considering how popular Ike is in the fandom.

Well, fujos are naturally shitty and rotten (it's in the name), so I can see it as well.

I've played it numerous times, and I gotta ask, where exactly is that "homoerotic subtext" they keep talking about ? At the end of the game, the main hero will leave with either one of the characters mentioned to parts unknown. That's it. That's what qualifies as "homoerotic subtext" to these faggots.

To tropers, if a guy so much as looks at another guy, it's homoerotic.

I always see people saying that Ike is gay, but I've never seen any sort of confirmation from the creators about this and nothing alluding to it in the games. I always thought Ike was just someone who didn't particularly care for romance but this apparently reads as gay to others. Also, doesn't one of his descendants show up in a later game? Doesn't that pretty much confirm that he's interested in women, at least?

I just don't get how people came to the conclusion that he's gay.

I'm guessing that they read too much fanfiction of him. Plus, it doesn't help that some of the more recent games have an gay character or two in them.

  • FlamingMercury5: Once Echo Fighters were introduced, my immediate thought was "Proto Man would make a perfect echo for Mega Man. He's Mega Man's prototype and older brother who has been playable in many games before, so it would work very well." However, my dreams were crushed when I saw that they added Proto Man and Bass to Megaman's Final Smash for no reason at all other than to deconfirm them as Echo Fighters. It just feels like a textbook case of They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character.
IT'S JUST A GAME, YOU MORON!
